WhatsApp is a popular app that many people use to share media. Meta has been working to make media-sharing smoother on WhatsApp with new features and design changes.

We last reported that WhatsApp has begun testing a dedicated gallery shortcut in the text field.

However, the change was at the expense of the existing camera option, which would make accessing the camera complicated. Now, a new beta release seems to address this issue.

According to the trusted WhatsApp Beta informer WABetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp beta v2.24.24.16 for Android is reintroducing the camera shortcut alongside the gallery shortcut within the text field.

WABetaInfo shared a screenshot which shows the shortcut change makes it easier to quickly access both the camera and the gallery. However, we cannot overlook the fact that it also makes the chat text field a lot crowded, especially with the attachment option still present.

While some users may appreciate the convenience, others might find three shortcuts packed together difficult to handle with increased chances of accidental touches. It will be interesting to see how this change is received when and if rolled out to wider users.

As of now, this update is only available to beta testers and is expected to roll out gradually over the coming weeks.

It is important to note that these features might not make it to the final version of WhatsApp. The app has seen several changes in shortcut placements recently, which suggests Meta is still experimenting with the best layout.

Currently, the attachment menu already includes shortcuts for the gallery and camera along with options for polls, documents, and audio.

If WhatsApp keeps the new shortcuts in the text field, it might remove the camera and gallery options from the attachment menu. However, these are just possibilities and it may few weeks for the final design to appear.
