WhatsApp has just launched a new privacy feature called “Advanced Chat Privacy” to give users even more control over their private conversations whether in one-on-one chats or group chats. This feature was already spotted in Beta version by trusted WABetaInfo earlier this month.
The company explained the new feature in a blog post titled “Introducing Advanced Chat Privacy: Enhanced Protection for Your Most Sensitive Conversations.” It says that while end-to-end encryption still forms the core of WhatsApp’s privacy promise, making sure only the sender and receiver can see or hear messages and calls. WhatsApp pointed out that group chats are often made up of people who might not know each other very well, especially in support groups or community organising. This feature is especially helpful in those kinds of situations.
As the company put it in a blog post, “We think this feature is best used when talking with groups where you may not know everyone closely but are nevertheless sensitive in nature, like talking about health challenges in a support group or organising your community about something important to you.”
The new “Advanced Chat Privacy” feature is now rolling out to all users on the latest version of the WhatsApp app. Users can simply turn on the setting by tapping the name of your chat and selecting Advanced Chat Privacy.
