  • Offers quick access to WhatsApp Safety Tools and the option to leave the group
  • Aims to reduce unwanted or spam invitations by providing more information upfront

WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature aimed at combating spam in group chats. The update, called Context Cards, provides users with information about group chat invites they receive.

Will Cathcart, who heads WhatsApp at Meta, announced the feature through his official WhatsApp Channel.

The rollout has begun and is expected to reach all users within weeks.

How Context Cards Work

Context Cards aim to help users decide which group invites are worth their time. By providing more information upfront,

When users get an invite to join a new WhatsApp group, they’ll now see a context card.

“If you’re added to a group by someone you don’t know, you’ll now see a context card giving you more information about the group. This includes who added you, how recent the group was created, and who created it,” WhatsApp has highlighted in its FAQ page.

This card shows who added them and whether that person is in their contacts.

It also displays who created the group and when, along with a description of the group.

“This includes who added you, how recent the group was created, and who created it,” WhatsApp said.”From there, you can decide whether to stay or leave the group and review some of the safety tools available to stay safe and secure on WhatsApp,” it added. “This update provides WhatsApp users with another layer of safety and security, building on existing features like silencing unknown callers, chat lock, in-app privacy check-up, and controlling who can add you to groups,” the company stated.

The card offers quick access to WhatsApp Safety Tools and an option to leave the group.

Users can still report suspicious group invites using the usual method.
