Vivo has now officially confirmed when its next camera-focused flagship, the Vivo X500 Ultra, is expected to launch. The announcement comes shortly after the company introduced the Vivo X500, X500 Pro and X500 Pro Max in China. Here’s what we know about the upcoming smartphone so far.
Vivo X500 Ultra Launch Expected by March or April
Speaking at the post-conference session held after the Vivo X500 series launch, Huang Tao, Vice President and Vice President of Product at Vivo revealed the launch timeline of the upcoming X500 Ultra. According to the executive, Vivo plans to introduce the Vivo X500 Ultra in China by March or April next year.
The brand has not yet revealed whether the flagship will also be launched in international markets.
Previous reports have hinted that Vivo could expand the X500 series with the X500e, X500 FE and X500 Ultra in the future.
As per reports, X500 Ultra is expected to sit at the top of the X500 lineup. As of now, there is no official information about the launch of the Vivo X500e or X500 FE.
What We Know About Vivo X500 Ultra So Far?
The Vivo X500 Ultra is expected to follow the approach of the Vivo X300 Ultra with a strong focus on photography and content creation. A previous leak by Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station claimed that Vivo was testing three different 200-megapixel telephoto sensors for the upcoming flagship.
The reported options include sensors measuring 1/1.12-inch, 1/1.3-inch and 1/1.4-inch. The larger 1/1.12-inch sensor could offer a more aggressive approach to telephoto photography, while the 1/1.3-inch and 1/1.4-inch options were reportedly being considered as more balanced solutions. However, it is not yet known which of these sensors Vivo will use in the final retail version.
The company is also said to be testing two different 35mm main camera setups. One configuration reportedly uses a 50-megapixel 1/1.28-inch LOFIC sensor with optical image stabilisation and a micro-gimbal lens system designed to provide a wide stabilisation angle. The second option is said to feature a larger 200-megapixel 1/1.12-inch LOFIC sensor.
According to the current rumours, the flagship could be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset. If this information is accurate, the X500 Ultra could offer a noticeable performance step up from the other X500 series models.
