US President-elect Donald Trump has named Indian-American entrepreneur and venture capitalist Sriram Krishnan as the senior White House policy advisor on artificial intelligence (AI). Announcing the appointment, Trump stated that Krishnan would play a key role in shaping and coordinating AI policy across the government.

He will also work closely with the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. Trump highlighted Krishnan’s notable career including his role as a founding member of Microsoft’s Windows Azure team.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Krishnan said he looks forward to working with David O. Sacks, who is the former COO of PayPal and serves as the White House AI & Crypto Czar.

Born in Chennai Tamil Nadu, Krishnan completed his BTech in Information Technology from SRM Engineering College in Kattankulathur, Kanchipuram. In 2005, he moved to the United States.
His father worked in the insurance sector, while his mother was a homemaker.
Krishnan began his tech career at Microsoft in 2005. Over the years, he led product teams at major companies including Twitter, Yahoo!, Facebook (now Meta) and Snap. At Facebook and Snap, he developed innovative mobile ad products.
Krishnan shares a professional relationship with billionaire Elon Musk, who is also part of Trump’s administration. He worked with Musk during the revamp of Twitter (now X) following Musk’s acquisition of the platform in 2022.
Krishnan has been a strong advocate for using technology to address challenges in integrating AI-driven models such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT with large internet platforms.
In February 2021, Krishnan joined a prominent venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) as a general partner. By 2023, he was leading the firm’s London office. He stepped down from his role at a16z in November 2023.
In addition to his professional achievements, Krishnan is well-known as the co-host of the popular podcast, ‘The Aarthi and Sriram Show’ (formerly called ‘The Good Time Show’), which he runs alongside his wife Aarthi Ramamurthy.
