Truecaller has introduced a new voicemail feature for Android users in India. The new feature enables users to receive voice messages from missed calls along with readable text transcriptions. The feature is currently available free of cost to all users in the country. Truecaller Premium subscribers can unlock an enhanced experience through the Truecaller Assistant. Here’s everything you need to know about the new feature.
The company announced the rollout through a forum post, explaining that the voicemail feature allows callers to leave a message when a call goes unanswered. These voice messages are recorded by Truecaller and automatically converted into text. It makes it easier for users to understand the purpose of a call without listening to the entire recording or calling back immediately.

According to Truecaller, voicemail recordings are stored locally on the user’s device, offering greater control and privacy over voice messages. The feature also includes smart call categorisation, built-in spam filtering, adjustable playback speed, and AI-powered transcription support in 12 Indian languages.
These include Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati, Nepali, Punjabi, Sanskrit, and Urdu.
The voicemail feature is live for all Truecaller users in India including those on the free tier. However, users must ensure that call forwarding is activated on their number for the feature to work. After setup, voicemail transcriptions may take a short time to appear. All received messages can be accessed through the dedicated Voicemail tab within the app.
Users are also required to install the latest version of the Truecaller app to access this functionality.
Truecaller has also confirmed that Premium users will benefit from an upgraded Truecaller Assistant experience. This assistant can answer calls on behalf of users, interact with callers, deliver personalised greetings, and provide more advanced call-handling options.
As of now, the voicemail feature is limited to Truecaller users in India. The company has stated that it plans to expand the availability of this feature to additional countries in the near future after gathering user feedback and completing further testing.
