According to the latest TRAI report, major changes were recorded within India’s telecom sector back in March 2024.
Among the leading providers, Reliance Jio’s added 2.14 million subscribers, which was the maximum increase for the previous ten months.

However, this was a slight decline from 3.41 million in February 2024.
Ending the month of March, Jio’s total number of wireless subscribers was almost 469.73 million.
Airtel, too, saw growth, but at a slower rate, adding about 1.75 million wireless subscribers.
Its total subscriber base grew to 385.76 million.
Airtel remains a dominant player in the market, lagging Jio by a very large margin in terms of total subscribers.
Vodafone Idea, or Vi, lost 0.68 million wireless subscribers.
It took its total subscriber base down to 219.82 million, underlining the continuing struggle of the company to hold onto its subscribers.
The State-run operators, BSNL and MTNL, lost 2.36 million subscribers between them, a record monthly loss for BSNL.
As of now, their total subscriber count is 89.99 million and reflects the continuous challenges that public sector units face in the competitive telecom market.
Market share statistics reveal that Jio still commands a massive 40.30% market share and is followed closely by Airtel with 33.10% and the 18.86% market share of Vi.
Thus far, the market share survey reveals that private operators command a huge percentage of the market, owning 92.26% share compared to the public sector’s 7.74%.
As per the survey, Jio reached a global milestone in being the network with the most data traffic consumption, a testimony to its mass-scale operations and active user engagement.
The report highlighted significant subscriber changes, with Jio and Airtel gaining millions of subscribers, while Vi and state-run operators like BSNL faced losses.
