Stealing memes, videos and content from another account purely for engagement farming is considered evil in social media work. Still, you will see many accounts regularly to it to get some easy engagement on their accounts. Meta’s Threads is trying to fight this with its new feature that will make using media from other accounts easy.

Threads has announced a new feature called “Use media” making it easier for users to reshare photos and videos on the platform.

So, instead of quote-posting and adding commentary, users can now directly reshare an image or video while adding their own text. Importantly, the original creator will still be credited with their name displayed in the top-left corner of the post.

The announcement came from Instagram head Adam Mosseri as he shared on his Threads account a post that the feature offers a “quick, easy way to add your creative takes to trending images.” Later, Threads official account also posted explaining the new feature.

To use the feature, you can either long-press on any photo or video posted on Threads or tap the repost button. The option will appear in a pop-up menu below “Repost” and “Quote.” If the feature hasn’t appeared for you yet, it’s expected to roll out soon.

Mosseri also encouraged users to share their feedback about the new feature.

However, not everyone is thrilled about the change. Some creators voiced concerns in response to Mosseri’s post, saying they prefer to limit how their content is reshared. They worry that others could use this feature to gain engagement and attention from their work without contributing any effort.

Threads addressed these concerns by explaining that users can disable media reuse through the app’s settings. Additionally, quote-post controls allow creators to decide who can reuse the media they share.

As we mentioned in the beginning, this new feature is part of Threads’ broader efforts to tackle stolen memes and engagement farming while fostering creativity among its users.
