The POVA 5 Pro from Tecno can be considered more than just another addition to the bustling smartphone market; it also represents a step forward in innovation and style.
Just from looking at the phone’s rear, it is clear that the handset doesn’t conform to a conventional design language.
The POVA 5 Pro clearly stands out in a crowd of often similar-looking devices. We managed to get the phone and experience it for a while.
Here is our unboxing and first impressions of the device.
The unboxing experience of the device is pretty standard with the device on the top. Below that is a sleeve that houses your regular paperwork and warranty documents. There is a white 68W charger inside the box and a USB Type-C cable to go along with it.
The POVA 5 Pro’s design is energetic and unconventional, akin to the Infinix GT 10 Pro. The multi-colored LED strips on the back aren’t just for show; they actively light up with incoming calls, gaming activities, charging, and more.
Though the phone may feel a bit heavy, its distinctive camera housing and the slightly large lenses contribute to its appealing look. The LED lights, in particular, bring a futuristic touch, while the overall construction promises durability.
With a 6.78-inch FHD+ IPS LCD panel, the display offers a 120Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate.
In our initial look, the experience with the display is largely positive, with vibrant colors and sharp visuals that should please media enthusiasts. Although the waterdrop notch might seem a tad outdated the bezels seem not to be obtrusive.
The camera system includes a 50 MP primary sensor that captures decent shots in favourable daylight conditions. The lenses, while big, add to the design appeal.
However, both the secondary and 16 MP selfie cameras may need enhancements, particularly in low light or complex scenarios.
The camera software seems user-friendly, and features like AI enhancement may be present, although further exploration is required.
This is just our very first impression of the camera setup and only with a detailed review can the handset’s optical capabilities be properly explored.
Under the hood, the MediaTek Dimensity 6080 SoC provides a solid foundation for the POVA 5 Pro and it is aided by 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
Operating on the Android 13-based HiOS, the device seems to handle multitasking and gaming well at first glance.
It appears to be tailored for those looking for reliable performance without splurging on flagship models. To test it out, however, the phone will have to go through the metaphorical wringer in our full review.
During our initial impressions, we like the audio experience provided by the dual-stereo speakers that are Hi-Res Audio and DTS certified.
The sound shows a balanced profile that doesn’t distort at higher volumes, indicating good engineering. Also, there is a 3.5mm headphone jack for wired audio enthusiasts.
As for the battery, there is a robust 5,000mAh cell that has 68W fast charging support. In initial testing, the charging speed is indeed rapid, providing significant battery life within minutes.
This combination of a long-lasting battery and quick charging convenience could set high expectations for regular use.
The POVA 5 Pro appears to be a strong contender in its segment, with distinct features and thoughtful design choices. Its engaging LEDs, impressive display, and promising battery life mark it as an exciting prospect.
Though certain areas might benefit from improvement, such as camera versatility, these initial impressions are subject to deeper evaluation in a full review.
Stay tuned as we delve into the detailed review of the POVA 5 Pro, where we’ll explore these features and more to provide a comprehensive understanding of this innovative device.
