Highlights Samsung to refresh Galaxy Watch 4 for 2024 without the "FE" moniker. A shift in strategy aims to provide premium features at an accessible price. Tech industry trend leans towards offering budget versions of flagship devices. Revamped Galaxy Watch 4 targets essential smartwatch functions with a potential design update. Speculation surrounding Samsung's smartwatch lineup for 2024 has been gaining momentum, with discussions primarily focused on updates to the Galaxy Watch series. Amidst these conversations, there had been whispers about the introduction of a Galaxy Watch FE, akin to the affordable "Fan Edition" smartphones Samsung has released in the past. However, recent developments suggest a shift in strategy. Galaxy Watch SE Not Happening Don't be surprised if you see the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 (2024) and Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) pop up soon, bc these things are def coming in hot like it's 2020/2021 again. — Roland Quandt (@rquandt) February 1, 2024 Max Jambor, a journalist known for his reliable leaks, shared insights on X, indicating that while Samsung is indeed refreshing its Galaxy Watch 4 for 2024, it will not bear the "FE" moniker. It seems that although the device might echo the value proposition typically associated with the FE branding—offering premium features at a more accessible price point—the company has chosen a different path for naming the product. The potential for a more wallet-friendly Galaxy Watch model comes at a time when the tech industry has seen a trend toward offering budget-conscious versions of flagship devices. This approach, shown best by Apple's Watch SE, allows consumers to access essential smartwatch functionalities without the premium price tag associated with the most recent models. A More Budget-Friendly Galaxy Watch Samsung Plans Budget-Friendly Galaxy Watch Update for 2024; Will Not be Called Galaxy Watch SE Rumours initially linking the Galaxy Watch 4's 2024 iteration to the "FE" branding were fueled by insights from Roland Quandt, another leaker with a track record for accuracy. What seems to be emerging from these rumours is a strategy by Samsung to revisit its 2021 Galaxy Watch 4 model and re-introduce it as an entry-level option within its smartwatch lineup. This approach would mark Samsung's first foray into repackaging existing technology to offer a more budget-friendly wearable, mirroring tactics seen by the likes of OPPO, Realme, and, more. Such a revamped Galaxy Watch 4 would cater to consumers seeking the core functionalities of a smartwatch—such as fitness tracking, notifications, and WearOS and One UI 6 compatibility—at a more accessible price point, potentially with an updated design to boot. FAQs What changes are expected in Samsung's smartwatch lineup for 2024? Samsung is refreshing its Galaxy Watch series, notably the Galaxy Watch 4, for 2024. Unlike previous expectations, this update will not include the "FE" branding. Instead, Samsung appears to be focusing on delivering a smartwatch that balances premium features with affordability. Why won't the new Galaxy Watch be called "FE"? Max Jambor's insights suggest Samsung has decided against using the "Fan Edition" (FE) branding for its updated Galaxy Watch 4. The reasons behind this decision haven't been fully disclosed, but it indicates a strategic pivot in how Samsung intends to position this product in the market. How does Samsung's approach to a more budget-friendly Galaxy Watch compare to industry trends? Samsung's strategy aligns with a broader tech industry trend of creating more accessible versions of flagship devices, a path Apple has also taken with its Watch SE. This approach aims to bring essential smartwatch features to a wider audience by making them more affordable. What features can consumers expect from the updated Galaxy Watch 4? While detailed specs are not yet available, consumers can expect the updated Galaxy Watch 4 to focus on delivering the core functionalities of a smartwatch, such as fitness tracking, notifications, and compatibility with the latest WearOS and One UI 6, all potentially within an updated design framework.
