Spotify is rolling out a fresh update that brings some helpful changes to the app, especially for Premium users. The AI-powered DJ feature is getting smarter and playlists are now easier to manage with new sorting options.
Spotify’s AI DJ is becoming more like a real DJ.
In a recent post, Spotify shared that the DJ can now handle “requests” from users, whether it’s a specific song or a new style of music. This makes the DJ feel more interactive, as it responds better to what you’re in the mood for.
Spotify explains, “By simply using your voice, you can now ask DJ to update your personalized listening session based on the music you want to hear at that moment, whether you’re looking for something to set the mood for date night or need some high-energy tracks to get you hyped for a party.”
“DJ can handle a combination of genre, mood, artist, or activity-related requests. For example, you could try, “Surprise me with some indie tracks I’ve never heard before,” or “Give me some electronic beats for a midday run.” You could even request something like, “Play me some cry-in-the-car songs,” the company added.
It’s a nice improvement, especially if you’re someone who already uses the DJ feature regularly.
Some of the most useful changes are to the overall app experience. Spotify has redesigned the “Now Playing” screen for Premium users. It now makes it easier to access options like Shuffle, Smart Shuffle, and Sleep Timer.
Also returning is the old feature where Spotify automatically plays recommended songs after your queue ends, something users have missed.
There’s also a new “30-day Snooze” option alongside the existing “Hide” button. This lets you stop hearing a song for a while without removing it completely.
Managing playlists is getting easier too. You can now sort playlists by title, artist, album, or “Recently Added.” This works on both mobile and desktop apps, which is a big plus if you keep a lot of music in just a few big playlists. On mobile, there’s also a new “Add” button with music suggestions.
“We’re introducing new mobile playlist management tools that will help you customize your creations. Now, at the top of all your playlists, you’ll find easy access to Add, Sort, and Edit to build your track list, change your playlist title, create custom cover art, and perfectly sequence each song,” the company said.
Spotify is also testing a cover art generator (currently in beta) and adding new collaboration features, though full details on those are still under wraps.
All these updates are rolling out now, so you should see them soon if you haven’t already.
