Sony Lytia has officially unveiled its latest flagship image sensor, the LYT-901. It is the company’s first-ever 200MP sensor designed for smartphones. According to early reports, the upcoming OPPO Find X9 Ultra and Vivo X300 Ultra are likely to be the first devices to feature this newly launched sensor. Here’s all about the new sensor.
Previously known by the codename “Sony IMX09E,” the LYT-901 is Sony’s first 200MP mobile sensor and features an impressively large 1/1.12-inch size. The sensor uses 0.7μm pixels to deliver high-resolution clarity while supporting HF-HDR (Hybrid Frame-HDR) for improved highlight and shadow management.
Sony claims the sensor offers over 100dB dynamic range with 17 stops, while DCG-HDR and a Fine 12-bit ADC help produce cleaner RAW files with enhanced tonal accuracy.
The LYT-901 also brings major advancements in zoom performance. It supports 4x lossless near-optical zoom through 4x sensor-in-zoom (ISZ), making it the only sensor currently capable of delivering 4x hardware zoom alongside 4K recording at 30fps.
Additionally, users can capture 4K footage at 120fps using the sensor’s 4x binning mode.
Sony has also equipped the sensor with a Quad-Quad Bayer structure and an AI-powered built-in Rebayer circuit capable of handling heavy in-sensor processing.
Other highlights include 4K HDR video recording up to 60fps, pixel-binned shooting modes such as 50MP (2×2) and 12.5MP (4×4) for improved low-light results and smooth pixel-bin zoom transitions across 200MP → 50MP → 12.5MP levels. The sensor is also optimised for enhanced concert-level zoom performance.
As per tipster Anvin @ZionsAnvin on X (formerly Twitter), upcoming flagships such as upcoming OPPO Find X9 Ultra and Vivo X300 Ultra are likely to debut the Sony LYT-901. These will be the first smartphones to adopt the new 200MP sensor.
OPPO’s Find X9 lineup with models Oppo Find X9 and Oppo Find X9 Pro along with Vivo’s X300 and X300 Pro have already launched globally. Their premium Ultra variants, the OPPO Find X9 Ultra and Vivo X300 Ultra, are expected to follow soon.
Sony is clearly aiming to push mobile photography into a new era of high-resolution imaging, advanced HDR performance and powerful in-sensor processing.
