Qualcomm is gearing up to reveal its next-generation flagship mobile processor – the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.
The official launch is expected in October this year. However, information about the chip has started surfacing online for some time now.
Earlier this month, it was the Geekbench score report offering a sneak peek at what’s to come.
And now more recently, a datasheet has been doing rounds online revealing more detailed information about the upcoming chipset.
Here’s everything we know so far.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be available in two variants: the standard SM8750 and the performance-focused SM8750P.
The standard version will power a variety of flagship smartphones from brands like Xiaomi, Vivo, OPPO, OnePlus, and others.
Meanwhile, the performance version is expected to be exclusive to Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra.
While many experts have been speculating that Qualcomm will be focusing on providing a significant CPU performance boost, the story seems to be diverting a little bit now.
According to the recently leaked datasheet, Qualcomm seems to be prioritizing efficiency with this chip.
Built on TSMC’s advanced 3nm process, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will feature Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU cores, previously seen in laptop CPUs.
The chip will have a 2+6 core configuration, with two performance cores at 4.0GHz and six efficiency cores at 2.8GHz.
Matching the vibe of the entire tech industry, AI is going to be a major focus point for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 as well.
This, however, isn’t something new or unexpected.
The trend to have a dedicated focus on AI capabilities was set by its predecessor.
The chipset will include a dedicated Low Power Artificial Intelligence (LPAI) subsystem and an eNPU (DSP AI Accelerator) for always-on features like audio, camera, and sensors.
This AI enhancement will play a crucial role in delivering on-device generative AI capabilities.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will also come equipped with the Adreno 830 GPU, Qualcomm Spectra ISP for improved camera functions, and the Qualcomm FastConnect 7900 modem supporting Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.
Previously, the first Geekbench results from what appears to be a Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 device were also leaked online.
The tests concluded with 8,840 points in the multi-core scenario and 2,884 points in the single-core run.
As per rumours, Xiaomi could be the first to launch a smartphone with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.
The upcoming Xiaomi 15 series is expected to debut in China in October.
In a recent Weibo post, popular tipster Digital Chat Station backed the rumours that ZTE foldable phones, the Nubia Flip 2 and Nubia Z70 Ultra are expected to be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.
It is also expected that the Red Magic 10 series to also come with the same high-end processor.
The post also revealed that ZTE’s next-generation smartphones will most likely come with a new generation of high-resolution under-display selfie cameras and large-size batteries.
More update on this is awaited and will be reported whenever there is a confirmation.
Qualcomm will officially unveil the chip at the Snapdragon Summit 2024 on October 21st.
We will have to wait till then for full details to be disclosed.
