With this rollout, owners of select Mahindra EVs will soon be able to lock, unlock, and start their cars directly from their Galaxy smartphones. This now completely removes the need for a physical key. Here’s all you need to know.
This feature is seamlessly integrated into Samsung Wallet, which comes pre-installed on compatible Galaxy devices. With the partnership, Mahindra has become the first Indian car manufacturer to offer Samsung’s Digital Car Key functionality.
Speaking at the launch, Senior Director, Services & Apps Business, Samsung India, Madhur Chaturvedi said, “We are very excited to bring Mahindra eSUV owners the incredible convenience of Samsung Digital Key through Samsung Wallet. Expanding access to Samsung Digital Car Key is an important part of our commitment to delivering connected and secure experiences within the Galaxy ecosystem. Nalinikanth Gollagunta, Chief Executive Officer – Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. and Executive Director, Mahindra Electric Automobile Ltd., said, “Our Electric Origin SUVs – XEV 9e and BE 6 have captivated our customers with their advanced technology and futuristic designs. We are delighted to partner with Samsung to bring yet another first-in-class feature – Digital Car key via Samsung wallet, ensuring every journey is even more seamless and convenient. This latest innovation again exemplifies Mahindra’s commitment to delivering an exceptional ownership experience with premium, intelligent electric SUVs for India.”
Globally, brands like Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, and Hyundai already support Samsung Wallet’s car key feature, though availability varies by model and region.
The feature works with select flagship Galaxy smartphones equipped with Ultra-Wideband (UWB) and NFC connectivity. Supported devices include the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S24, and Galaxy S23 series, as well as foldable models like the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, Z Fold 6, and Z Flip 6.
In general, Galaxy S and Z series phones launched after 2020 with UWB support can use the keyless entry and ignition features.
Samsung Wallet’s Digital Car Key is now compatible with Mahindra’s XEV 9e and BE 6 electric SUVs. Galaxy users will be able to use their smartphones to lock, unlock, and start these vehicles effortlessly.
Users can share their digital car keys with family or friends for temporary access. The feature also allows users to restrict or revoke access anytime.
For added safety, the primary keyholder receives alerts whenever the vehicle is started, ensuring complete control.
If a phone with a Digital Car Key is lost or stolen, users can remotely lock the device and erase all data, including the car key, using the Samsung Find service. The feature is secured by biometric or PIN authentication, ensuring that only authorised users can access the car.
Even if the smartphone’s battery is completely drained, the Digital Car Key continues to function via NFC. Samsung says its latest Galaxy devices retain enough reserve battery power to keep NFC-based features active, ensuring drivers can always access their vehicles.
This new feature reinforces Samsung’s growing presence in the digital car key market. Competitors such as Google Wallet already offer similar functionality for brands such as Tesla, Volvo, and Polestar in select markets. With Mahindra’s addition, Samsung has expanded its reach into India’s rapidly evolving Electric Vehicle segment.
