After months of speculations and rumours, Samsung has officially unveiled the ultra-slim Galaxy S25 Edge at the recent Galaxy Unpacked event. While earlier rumours suggested it might be called the Galaxy S25 Slim, Samsung confirmed the “Edge” branding instead reminding everyone of its earlier curved-display designs.
In an interview with Bloomberg, President of Samsung’s Mobile Devices Business TM Roh elaborated on the idea of the Galaxy S25 Edge. “The Edge will use some of the same technologies as the new Ultra model, but fit them inside a slimmed-down design. Customers want the “best performance, the best camera features, the best AI, but at the same time they want an even more attractive form factor that stands out among the pack,” Roh said in the interview.
“We’ve been trying to combine all the advantages of the S25 Ultra in a slimmer form factor. [….]Our goal is to position this at pricing that is lower than the Ultra models, so it’s more accessible and has more customers,” Roh further said.
Here’s everything we know about this new variant.
The Galaxy S25 Edge is set to launch in the first half of this year with Samsung emphasising its ultra-slim design. At a rumoured thickness of just 6.4mm, it stands out as one of the thinnest smartphones in the industry. Unlike the standard Galaxy S25 models, the Edge features a minimalist design with a dual-camera setup, deviating from the triple-camera systems of the S25 and S25+.
Samsung’s focus on the Galaxy S25 Edge’s slim form appears to be a direct response to Apple’s rumoured iPhone 17 Air, which is also expected to feature an ultra-thin profile.
The Korean company aims to offer a compelling choice for design-conscious consumers who don’t want to compromise on performance by combining sleek aesthetics with functionality.
The Galaxy S25 Edge will reportedly sit between the Galaxy S25+ and the S25 Ultra in terms of pricing, coming in below the $1,299 Ultra model.
Industry insider Mark Gurman has hinted that the Edge will launch globally including in the US during the first half of the year.
