Samsung’s next generation foldable smartphones have already surfaced in CAD-based renders but now a fresh set of dummy units offers a more realistic look of what could be on cards. The leaked images of what look like aluminium dummies of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide and Galaxy Z Flip 8 placed side-by-side. The images highlight a noticeable design shift especially with the new “Wide” model. Here’s more on that.

Well-known leaker Sonny Dickson @SonnyDickson on X shared the images of these aluminium dummy units that offer a closer look at how the devices may appear in real-world usage. These mockups provide a better sense of proportions, dimensions and overall design compared to earlier renders.
The South Korean tech giant is expected to unveil its eighth-generation foldables this July. The company appears to be expanding its portfolio with an entirely new form factor instead of introducing a Fan Edition variant of the Flip series.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 seem to carry forward the design language that we are more familiar with. However, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide stands out as a major departur taking inspiration from the original Google Pixel Fold.
In terms of design, the standard Fold model retains its tall and narrow structure when folded with the cover display aiming to replicate a traditional slab smartphone experience. The Flip model continues to focus on compact portability featuring a full-view cover screen and transforming into a standard smartphone when unfolded.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, on the other hand, introduces a more passport-like design when folded. It is shorter in height but significantly wider compared to the regular Fold models. Once unfolded, the device turns into a mini-tablet with a screen ratio that appears better suited for browsing and multimedia consumption.
Another interesting detail visible in the dummy units is the presence of circular cutouts on the rear panels of all three devices. These could indicate support for magnetic wireless charging possibly aligned with Qi2 standards using internal magnets or coils.
However, these elements may not be visible in the final production units as Samsung could integrate them internally similar to what was seen with earlier renders and final versions of the Galaxy S26 lineup.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Lineup – What Else We Know?
Leaks suggest that this Galaxy Z Fold 8 “Wide” variant could feature an inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio. This means the foldable device will offer a broader viewing area compared to existing Fold devices.
Recent reports also suggest that the book-style Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Wide’s front camera cutout could go be just 2.5mm from 3.7mm on the Fold 7. Rumours suggest both phones will also have a 10MP selfie camera similar to Galaxy Z Fold 7. So, basically there’s no major leaps to be expected when it comes to front camera tech. The leaker, however, did hint that Samsung could be looking at getting back to under-display selfie cameras for future Samsung models. But no updated on that as of now.
On the other hand, Galaxy Z Flip 8 might not have any significant camera improvements this year.

Samsung is reportedly planning to host its next Unpacked event on July 22 in London for the new foldables to debut. Alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series and Flip 8, the company may also introduce the Galaxy Watch 9, Watch Ultra 2 and its latest Android 17-based One UI 9 software.
