Samsung could be planning a significant change to its flagship smartphone lineup with the upcoming Galaxy S27 series. According to recent reports, the company may introduce a ‘Pro’ variant in the lineup. Interestingly, many reports had hinted that this was being considered for the Galaxy S26 series but that clearly did not materialise. Here’s what we are getting from the latest reports.
As per a report from South Korean publication ET News, Samsung is exploring the idea of adding a ‘Pro’ model to its next-generation Galaxy S27 lineup. Tipster Ice Universe @UniverseIce on X also shared the report details that says the Galaxy S27 series is expected to include four models in total.
This move is reportedly said to be driven by Samsung Electronics Mobile Experience (MX) division that aims to strengthen the company’s premium portfolio by offering more than one high-end device. Currently, the Ultra model serves as the sole top-tier offering but the addition of a Pro variant could increase that number to two.
As of now, we don’t have any detailed specifications of the Galaxy S27 Pro available. However, reports suggest it is expected to deliver features similar to the Ultra model but without support for the S Pen.
Additionally, the Privacy Display feature introduced with the Galaxy S26 Ultra is likely to be extended to both the Pro and Ultra variants in the Galaxy S27 series.
The plan to have four models in the flagship series is believed to be aimed at competing more effectively with Apple’s four-model flagship lineup. Apple’s lineup includes two standard models and two premium variants currently. With the addition of the Pro model, Samsung may position it between the Galaxy S27 Plus and Galaxy S27 Ultra in terms of pricing and features.
The report also highlights that Samsung had previously discontinued the Galaxy S26 Edge model due to its underwhelming market performance. A similar strategy could be followed with the upcoming lineup focusing instead on strengthening its core premium offerings.
Further details regarding the Galaxy S27 series are expected to emerge as the launch timeline approaches.
