It has been just months since the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge debuted earlier this year and details about its successor are already emerging. According to multiple reports, the upcoming Galaxy S26 Edge has appeared on Geekbench, revealing it will feature Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship chipset. Here’s everything we know about this.
The Geekbench listing shows a Samsung device with the model code SM-S947U running what appears to be the “for Galaxy” variant of the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. This model is widely believed to be the upcoming Galaxy S26 Edge.
This will be the first benchmark appearance of the new Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, almost more than a month before its official launch.
In Geekbench 6.4 tests, the chip scored 3,393 in single-core and 11,515 in multi-core performance. This is around a 9% improvement over last year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, which typically scores about 3,125 and 9,932 in the same tests. While this is a solid gain, it’s not as dramatic as some early leaks suggested, possibly because the tested unit’s prime CPU core was capped at 4.0GHz, well below its expected peak of 4.74GHz. This is typical for pre-release hardware, meaning there’s still untapped performance potential.
The benchmark confirms the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will retain a 6+2 CPU core setup with six efficiency cores clocked at 3.63GHz. It also introduces support for SME (Scalable Matrix Extensions), aimed at boosting AI and machine learning workloads.
The tested Galaxy S26 Edge prototype featured 12GB of RAM and was running Android 16, likely with an early build of Samsung’s One UI 8.0.
While direct performance comparisons with MediaTek’s upcoming Dimensity 9500 are not yet available, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 already outperforms Samsung’s Exynos 2600. The Exynos chip scores 2,155 in single-core and 7,788 in multi-core, even without operating at full power.
As for the official 8 Elite 2 launch, Qualcomm is expected to officially unveil the flagship chipset at the Snapdragon Summit on September 23.
