Samsung is getting ready to launch its seventh-generation foldables at an upcoming Unpacked event expected in mid-July. The series of foldables we are expecting include the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung Z Flip 7 and Samsung Z Flip 7 FE.

Ahead of the official reveal, the company has started teasing the Galaxy Z Fold 7 as its thinnest and most advanced foldable yet. Here’s everything we know so far.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 FCC Certification

The Fold 7 just showed up on the FCC certification site, confirming some key details such as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Elite (SM8750) chipset.

This is a step up from the previous Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 found in the Fold 6. It also brings better power efficiency, which will be important since the new Fold is expected to keep the same 4,400mAh battery as its predecessor. Samsung took a similar approach with the Galaxy S25 Ultra, managing better battery life despite using the same capacity as the S24 Ultra.

The FCC listing also confirms the Fold 7 will support 5G, Ultra-Wideband (UWB), Wi-Fi 7, wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging. It runs One UI 8 based on Android 16, which is still under development, so performance and battery life might need some fine-tuning in the first few months.

The FCC certification only applies to the U.S. model, confirming a Snapdragon chip for that region. But that doesn’t rule out the possibility of an Exynos 2500 variant in other markets. Still, reports from South Korea suggest Exynos may remain exclusive to Samsung’s home market, meaning most global users will get the Snapdragon version.

Official Teaser Confirms Thinner and Lighter Design

A recently released official teaser has described the upcoming foldable as “thinner, lighter, and more durable” than any Fold yet.

In the teaser post, Samsung said, “smartphones are constant companions that we tuck into our pockets, use with one hand and take everywhere we go. So it’s only natural that users desire a foldable device that is as easy to carry as it is to use. To that end, Samsung engineers and designers are refining each generation of the Galaxy Z series to be thinner, lighter and more durable than the last.”

While Samsung hasn’t released any details, previous leaks suggest it could measure just 4.5mm when unfolded, compared to 4.9mm for the Z Fold SE and 12.1mm closed thickness on the Fold 6.

Even with a slight camera bump, the new design promises to be more pocketable and easier to handle, especially with one hand, a common complaint with earlier Fold models.

Camera Upgrades

Samsung is also teasing big improvements to the Fold 7’s camera, though not in the way you might expect. There’s no word yet on megapixels or hardware changes, except for a leak suggesting a possible 200MP main sensor. Instead, Samsung is focusing on AI enhancements.

In a separate teaser post, Samsung says the Fold 7 camera will be “More than just a tool for capturing images, coupled with enhanced AI-powered features, the Galaxy camera is now part of the intuitive interface that turns what users see into understanding and action.”

This sounds a lot like Real-Time Visual AI, a feature Samsung previously introduced using Gemini AI, which analyses the scene in real time to offer helpful suggestions or actions.

Samsung has already shifted its focus toward Galaxy AI in recent devices, and it looks like the Fold 7 will follow that trend using smart software upgrades rather than major sensor overhauls. Like the recent Galaxy S-series phones, the ultrawide, telephoto, and selfie cameras may stay the same, while AI does most of the heavy lifting.
