Samsung is set to enhance the user experience for its Galaxy smartphone owners with the introduction of a “Battery Protection” feature in its forthcoming One UI 6.1 update.
This move comes as a response to the increasing consumer focus on prolonging battery lifespan and improving device performance.
As per a report from 9to5Google, the feature is expected to be a part of the Android 14 update and will likely make its first appearance with the anticipated launch of the Galaxy S24 series.
Details of this feature have surfaced through leaks, and it’s predicted that Samsung will officially reveal more information during the Galaxy S24 series launch.
The “Battery Protection” option, found in the Settings menu of the new One UI 6.1, is designed to offer users more control over their device’s charging habits to optimize battery longevity.
This feature, embedded within the One UI 6.0 (Android 14) updates, is initially hidden from users.
To access it, one needs to use specialized apps like “Activity Launcher” to launch an app “activity” named “BatteryProtectionActivity.”
The “Battery Protection” feature offers three distinct modes:
Samsung Is Introducing a New Battery Protection Feature in the One UI 6.1 UpdateCurrently, the feature is in a nascent stage, as reported by Tarun Vats via Twitter.
While the settings are visible and users can switch between modes, the actual impact on charging behavior is not yet active.
Presently, activating the battery protection only restricts the battery charge to a maximum of 85%, a function available since the Android 13 update.
In addition to Samsung’s developments, Google is also reportedly working on a similar feature for Android users to monitor battery health more accurately.
This update is expected to be rolled out with Android 15, building on the initial steps already taken in Android 14.
Samsung’s upcoming One UI 6.1 update for Galaxy devices introduces a Battery Protection feature. It’s designed to extend battery lifespan by optimizing charging patterns and is a part of the Android 14 update.
Currently, the feature can be accessed using specialized apps like “Activity Launcher” by launching an activity called “BatteryProtectionActivity.” It’s initially not visible in the standard settings menu.
There are three modes: Basic Protection, limiting charge to 95%; Adaptive Protection, which adjusts charging to 100% based on usage; and Maximum Protection, capping charging at 80%.
As of now, the feature is in a preliminary stage. While the settings are visible and can be toggled, the actual impact on battery charging is not yet active.
Navitasys India has recently been identified as a battery supplier for the Galaxy S24 Ultra, as per listings from Safety Korea.
As of now, Navitasys India is confirmed for the Galaxy S24 Ultra. It remains uncertain if they’ll also cater to the standard S24 and S24+ models.

The upcoming Samsung One UI 6.1 update is set to introduce a revamped battery protection system with three modes – Basic, Adapt, and Max – designed to optimize and prolong battery life based on user habits.
Adapt mode in One UI 6.1 intelligently adjusts charging to 80% overnight, based on the user’s daily schedule, completing the charge just before waking, to enhance battery health and longevity.
Max mode in Samsung’s One UI 6.1 limits the phone’s charging capacity to 80%, a strategy known to extend the overall lifespan of smartphone batteries.
Apart from battery enhancements, One UI 6.1 is rumored to introduce AI-powered customization in Wallpaper services. The update is expected to launch in January, possibly alongside the Galaxy S24 series.
The first wave of the One UI 6 update includes flagship devices like the Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Galaxy Z Flip 5. These models are expected to receive the update by November 15.
One UI 6 offers a revamped interface, including an enhanced quick settings panel, Samsung DeX improvements, and lock screen customization. It also introduces new widgets, improved camera controls, and a fresh emoji style on the Samsung keyboard.
Mid-range Samsung models like the Galaxy A52 and A72 are part of the second phase of the rollout, scheduled to receive the update by November 30. The Galaxy A04s, XCover 5, and A25 5G will follow in early to mid-December.
