Samsung and Synopsys, of which the latter is a prominent electronics design automation firm, have revealed that Samsung’s foundries are gearing up for the mass production of the first 3nm Exynos chip.
Although the press release doesn’t explicitly mention the Exynos name, the implications of this development are nothing short of revolutionary.
Samsung and Synopsys have finished the final design stage called “taping out”, where the finished blueprints get sent to Samsung’s factories to start making the actual chips.
If everything goes smoothly, Samsung’s factories will start pumping out these brand new 3nm chips in just a couple of months from now.
But it’s still not clear if this first 3nm chip will be the Exynos 2500 for the upcoming Galaxy S25 phones or some other chip.
Kijoon Hong, VP of Samsung’s System LSI arm, said, “Our longstanding collaboration has delivered leading-edge SoC designs. This is a remarkable milestone for successfully achieving the highest performance, power, and area on the most advanced mobile CPU cores and SoC designs in collaboration with Synopsys. Not only have we demonstrated that AI-driven solutions can help us achieve PPA targets for even the most advanced GAA process technologies, but through our partnership, we have established an ultra-high-productivity design system that is consistently delivering impressive results.”
The Samsung staffer said, “Since we’ve just completed the tape-out of the 3nm mobile AP, we cannot specify the performance of the mass-produced chips yet, but it is true that we have made significant progress compared to the previous generation, and we are on track to start mass production in the second half of this year.”
There’s a chance it could be a new chip for the Galaxy Watch 7 smartwatches coming out soon too.
Samsung has made 3nm chips before, but those were simple designs just used for crypto mining rigs.
This is their first super-advanced 3nm chip packed with CPUs, GPUs and other fancy mobile tech from Synopsys.
Speculation abounds that the imminent Galaxy Watch7, which is just around the corner, could be the first to benefit from Samsung’s latest hardware innovation.
Alternatively, the Galaxy S25 series, Samsung’s flagship smartphone lineup, may also be a prime candidate to showcase the capabilities of this cutting-edge 3nm chip.
So in the next few months, we’ll finally get to see what amazing new mobile processors Samsung has been cooking up using their latest 3nm process.
Could give their Galaxy devices a huge performance boost over the previous generation! Tech fans are hyped to see what Samsung’s got in store.
Samsung, in collaboration with Synopsys, has completed the design of a groundbreaking 3nm chip, marking a significant advancement in semiconductor technology with potential applications in smartphones and smartwatches.
Following the final design phase, Samsung’s factories are anticipated to commence mass production of the 3nm chips in the coming months, indicating a near-future availability for consumer devices.
While not confirmed, there is speculation that the new 3nm Exynos chip could power the upcoming Galaxy S25 series or the Galaxy Watch 7, showcasing its advanced capabilities in either smartphones or smartwatches.
Unlike earlier 3nm chips used primarily in crypto mining, this new chip integrates advanced CPUs, GPUs, and other mobile technologies, making it suitable for high-performance consumer electronics.
