Realme has officially announced a strategic partnership with RICOH IMAGING COMPANY LTD, set to launch on October 14 in Beijing. The collaboration is reportedly four years in the making and will debut with the upcoming Realme GT 8 Pro smartphone.
To mark the partnership, the companies released a promotional video titled “4 Years in One Snap”, featuring realme Vice President and CMO Chase Xu and Kazunobu Saiki, General Manager of the Camera Business Division at RICOH IMAGING COMPANY LTD., discussing the foundation of their collaboration.
Realme Vice President and CMO Chase Xu in a discussion with Kazunobu Saiki, General Manager of Camera Business Division at RICOH IMAGING COMPANY LTD., said, “The elements that brought two brands together, which grounded on a shared understanding of user demands. realme saw that young people struggled with two main pain points in mobile photography: increasingly similar hardware and over-processed algorithms that stripped photos of authenticity. People are getting tired of the same ‘perfect style’ photos. More and more, everyone wants to show their own style, instead of copying the same look. The RICOH GR series has been known as a “street photography hero” because of its sharp quality, portability, and quick response. “That’s exactly what we value.”
Kazunobu Saiki said, “RICOH Imaging and realme share a base of young, creative users. Our collaboration is not only about innovation in products, but also about culture to inspire a new generation to enjoy street photography and discover the beauty of everyday life.”
The partnership is rooted in a shared focus on mobile photography, addressing two key challenges identified by Realme, homogenised hardware across smartphones and over-processed algorithms that compromise photo authenticity. The goal is to bring the RICOH GR series’ signature features, widely recognised in street photography, into mobile devices.
The Realme GT 8 Pro will be the first device to showcase this collaboration featuring co-engineered optical enhancements, advanced colour algorithms, and refined imaging tones. The camera system will include a custom user interface designed to replicate the feel of a RICOH GR camera. Leveraging RICOH GR’s 30-year heritage, the phone will integrate a film-like aesthetic and five classic image tones into its photography experience.
Further details on the partnership and the GT 8 Pro’s imaging capabilities will be revealed at the official launch on October 14, ahead of the phone’s China debut later this month.
The GT 8 Pro will feature a detachable camera module with three options for customisation. Users will get a round design, a square option, and an irregular “robot-inspired” version.
The display is a 2K 144Hz AMOLED panel, co-developed with BOE, using Q10+ material for improved brightness and eye comfort, capable of reaching 4,000 nits of peak brightness.
Under the hood, the device will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, complemented by Realme’s R1 display chip to enhance gaming performance and visual processing.
Additional features include a 7,000mAh+ battery with 120W wired charging, stereo speakers, an X-axis linear motor, and 3D ultrasonic fingerprint recognition, making the GT 8 Pro a flagship-ready device for performance and photography enthusiasts.
