The newly released POCO M6 5G enters the market as a potential game-changer in the budget smartphone category, priced effectively at Rs 9,999 for the base variant.
This makes it the most budget-friendly 5G-powered handset on the market right now.
But is it any good?
With its unveiling, I am taking a closer look at what this device has to offer in my POCO M6 5G impressions.
While my full review is forthcoming, here’s my initial take on this latest offering from POCO.
Opening the POCO M6 5G box reveals a handset that exudes a sleek, modern aesthetic which is at odds with its accompanying budget price tag.
Inside the box are standard inclusions: a charger, a USB cable, and a user manual. The handset’s design and feel provide a strong first impression, indicating a thoughtfully crafted device.
I would have liked a clear silicone case as well but I guess some cost cutting is necessary to drive the POCO M6 5G’s final price down.
The design of the POCO M6 5G is both stylish and functional, boasting a comfortable grip and a premium look.
I have the black colour variant with a glossy back and a bit of sparkle in the panel which gives it a shimmering look.
On the display side of things, in my initial viewing, the large 6.74-inch HD+ panel, with a high 90Hz refresh rate, offers vivid and smooth visuals, ideal for both media consumption and browsing.
The addition of Corning Gorilla Glass makes the whole setup durable and safeguards the device from everyday wear and tear.
However, being a budget offering I did notice some off-axis colour shifts when viewing it from a different angle.
I’ll find out more in my detailed review of the phone.
The camera setup on the POCO M6 5G, led by a 50MP AI Dual rear camera, holds promise for capturing detailed and vibrant photos.
This, coupled with advanced AI capabilities, suggests that the camera might excel in various lighting and scene conditions.
I took out the phone for some casual photography and although the Delhi haze obfuscates the sun’s brightness, the M6 5G churned out some decent shots.
I will be testing it more thoroughly in a variety of lighting conditions in my review.
Apart from that the front camera’s performance, especially in selfie and video call quality, will be a point of focus in my detailed review.
Under the hood, the device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ 5G SoC which combined with up to 16GB of RAM, positions the POCO M6 5G as a strong performer in its segment.
Benchmarks and daily driving will be key to deciphering the processing prowess of the device but for that, the device will have to be put through the metaphorical wringer.
Also, the POCO M6’s software experience, MIUI 14 based on Android 13, appears fluid and user-friendly during initial interactions.
The integration of hardware and software seems promising, indicating a smooth and responsive experience.
Apart from the standout specifications, the POCO M6 5G comes with an array of features including 5G support, fast charging, and substantial storage space.
My initial tests with Airtel’s 5G network in Delhi yielded positive results.
There is a 5000mAh battery, supplemented by 33W fast charging on the device, suggesting that the phone could easily last a full day on a single charge, even with heavy usage.
Of course, that is all hearsay till the handset is daily driven with a variety of apps running in the background.
Stay tuned for the full review.
In my first encounter with the POCO M6 5G, the device presents itself as a strong contender in the budget smartphone arena, thanks to its impressive specifications and features.
However, a more in-depth analysis is required to fully understand its capabilities and performance in everyday use.
Keep an eye out for our full review, where I will provide a comprehensive evaluation and my final verdict on the POCO M6 5G.
