What are the qualities you look for before buying a new smartphone? How do you feel about Poco as a brand? What all can users expect from Poco M5? Find out.

Brief Summary

When it comes to the best smartphones, there are a slew of brands vying for public attention like Apple, Samsung, OPPO, Infinix, among others but today we are going to talk about a brand new smartphone model from Poco.

Poco is a highly underrated brand when compared to the aforementioned ones because it was launched only a couple of years back in August 2018. But no less efficient than them and we are going to talk about the latest Poco smartphone model that has come out in the market, which is Poco M5 launched in India on September 5, 2022.

When it comes to good looking smartphones, Poco M5 will join the list of its illustrious predecessors that has lived up to the reputation of being their worthy successor with all the necessary features and specifications that you can hope for.

Poco M5 has been very well received by many users who’ve liked its features and specifications along with the affordable price value, which was the main cause of concern for many people as they wouldn’t have been able to afford it due to budget constraints.

My Opinion on Poco M5

Poco M5 has come in a yellow, rectangular retail box with ‘POCO M5’ labelled in huge capital letters at the bottom left with the Poco Logo highlighted at the top right and the ‘Made in India’ campaign on the left.

At the bottom it is given ‘India’s #1 Quality Smartphone Brand’, which has become synonymous with POCO models as of late as almost every device is launched with this particular quote.

Upon opening the box, a yellow plastic box with the manual inside along with the instructions on how to handle it with care, as is the case with all electronic devices and gadgets.

The smartphone model is next and even though it is slightly heavy, the device is quite exquisite when it comes to design while at the bottom of the box, there is a 22.5W charging adapter, along with a USB Cable Type-C Port, TPU Protective Case, SIM Ejector Tool, along with the usual paperwork.

Upon first glance, Poco M5 is very beautiful to look at and doesn’t feel like a regular affordable smartphone that can be purchased easily as it comes with a textured finish that greatly resembles leather at the back panel that gives viewers a premium look and feel.

While its design is something that many would find similar to other brands of smartphones, it does have the necessary X-Factor despite being neither slim nor light smartphone but it is one of the best models in recent times that everyone should try out.

When I held it in my hand, I experienced a strange, inexplicable feeling, despite the slight heaviness of the handset, which is why I held it a little tight and briskly as though I was holding an expensive piece of glass.

A moment later, I started examining the model to see if it was everything that it was made out to be by its makers and found most, if not all, the features up my alley and came to the conclusion that it was indeed a worthy model.

While the handset is made of plastic, it is perfect for daily use due to its durability while the front screen has a Gorilla Glass 3 protection, which is something that every big smartphone should have nowadays.

Price, Features & Specifications of Poco M5

Poco M5 comes with a 6.9 inch LCD, FHD+ display screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and a Gorilla Glass 3 protection as mentioned above. It is powered by MediaTek Helio G99, which is enough to keep pace with the daily tasks such as social media apps, browsing, YouTube video surfing, and lastly, watching movies on the numerous OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ Hotstar, Sony LIV, among others.

The general animations were something I found quite slick for my use, something I could not find with other smartphone models that have come out in the past few years and part of it was due to the 90Hz display that made for a snappy experience.

It is quite a good model that you can purchase in India under Rs.15,000 as the starting price is Rs.12,499 while the sales price is even lower at Rs.10,499, which is a worthy option for students, casual phone users, and people that want a secondary option that will come in handy for many days at a stretch.

It comes with two storage variants viz. 4GB RAM + 64GB internal capacity and 6GB RAM + 128GB internal capacity (which is this particular model) while its weight is 201g although the slight heaviness does make it feel it is a little more than that.

The MediaTek’s Helio G99 processor was unveiled in August 2022, which many people consider the lifeline of Poco M5, along with other smartphone models like Redmi 11 Prime, Infinix Note 12 Pro, among others.

Even though it is a 4G model handset, it has all the basis covered in the form of its features with a peerless design at such a ridiculously low price while the 90Hz refresh rate is a good choice for game lovers as they can enjoy the gaming experience a lot more while the display screen makes it perfect for watching videos and movies.

Now coming to the 50MP camera due to which the images have a natural depth of field while the app itself locks down the focus quickly while the textures in things such as walls and flowers are processed well and good, which is why the pictures are not smoothened out.

The portrait mode is also fine, which lends a shallow depth of field effect to the images but the natural colours and textures are quite jarring while the night pictures have artefacts and grain due to which you need to switch to night modes immediately as it solves the issue once and for all.
