As Samsung is gearing up for the Galaxy S25 Series launch in the coming week, it is the slim model that will be released later in the year generating maximum buzz for now. Previous reports have revealed Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim to be one of the slimmest smartphones ever made by the brand.

While some leaked renders have shared an initial look of the phone, recent high-quality 5K renders shared by Smartprix in collaboration with OnLeaks give a detailed first look at this ultra-thin device.

The Galaxy S25 Slim measures an impressively thin 6.4mm, which makes it significantly slimmer than most smartphones. The device is just 8.3mm thick even with its camera module. To put that into perspective, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to be 8.2mm thick without a camera bump.

The phone will have a 6.7- to 6.8-inch flat display and dimensions of approximately 159 x 76 x 6.4mm. Comparatively, the S25 Ultra is larger at 162.8 x 77.6 x 8.2mm. This means the S25 Slim is 3.8mm shorter, 1.6mm narrower, and 1.8mm thinner than its Ultra sibling.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim 360-Degree View

The recently leaked 360-degree images show that the Galaxy S25 Slim will feature a triple-camera setup on the back, a sleek metal frame and a glass back.

The bezels around the screen are ultra-thin and the power button and volume rockers are flat. At the bottom, there’s a USB-C port, a microphone and a single speaker grille.

According to leaked reports, the Galaxy S25 Slim’s triple-camera setup includes a 200MP HP5 main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide lens and a 50MP telephoto lens with 3.5X optical zoom. Samsung is utilising its new ALoP (All Lenses on Prism) design, which arranges lenses in front of the prism ensuring a slim design while maintaining excellent zoom capabilities.

Under the hood, the phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset paired with 12GB of RAM and running Android 15 with One UI 7. Early Geekbench scores from a pre-release unit show a single-core score of 3005 and a multi-core score of 6945, though these may improve closer to the final launch.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim – Expected Launch

The Galaxy S25 Slim is set to launch in May 2025.

While it might make a brief appearance at Samsung’s Unpacked event on January 22 alongside the Galaxy S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra, its release is expected to follow a few months later.

Google has remained the go-to search engine for as long as we learned what search engines actually are. However, there have often been talks about how Google might lose its grip as many other search engines tried to challenge its top position. But most of the challengers including the recent rise of AI-powered search engines haven’t managed to gain enough market share to become an actual threat to Google until now.

Google’s global dominance in the search engine market took a hit in late 2024 as its market share dipped below 90% for the first time since 2015.

According to a Search Engine Land report citing Statcounter data, Google’s share fell to 89.34% in October, 89.99% in November and 89.73% in December.

The last time Google’s market share dropped below 90% was in early 2015 with figures of 89.52% in March, 89.47% in February and 89.62% in January of that year.

The report highlights a growing trend of Google gradually losing market share, particularly in Asia. In other regions, its numbers have remained relatively stable.

In the US, Google’s market share peaked at 90.37% in November 2024 but dropped significantly to 87.39% in December.

It’s unclear if this decline is tied to users shifting toward AI-based search tools like ChatGPT Search and Perplexity. Statcounter primarily tracks traditional search engines such as Bing, Yandex, Yahoo, Baidu, DuckDuckGo and Ecosia.

Among these competitors, Bing emerged as the second-most popular search engine maintaining just under 4% market share over the last five months of 2024. Yandex and Yahoo also benefited from Google’s decline.

This shift comes at a challenging time for Google since the company has been facing criticism for nearly two years over the perceived decline in the quality of its search results. Google has been under legal scrutiny in the US for its alleged monopoly status after holding a consistent 90-92% market share for nearly a decade.

FAQs

Q1. When was a dip in Google’s global market share below 90% after 2015?

Answer. Google’s global market share in the search engine market dipped below 90% in late 2024 for the first time since 2015 with figures of 89.34% in October, 89.99% in November and 89.73% in December.

Q2.  How did Google’s market share change in the US during late 2024?

Answer. In the US, Google’s market share peaked at 90.37% in November 2024 but dropped significantly to 87.39% in December 2024.

Q3. Which search engines have gained market share after Google’s decline?

Answer. Bing, Yandex, and Yahoo have gained market share as a result of Google’s decline. Bing emerged as the second-most popular search engine, maintaining just under 4% market share over the last five months of 2024.

Meta is set to lay off 3,600 employees, which is about 5% of its workforce, as part of CEO Mark Zuckerberg‘s drive to raise the bar on performance management.

In an internal memo, Zuckerberg explained that the company would be taking a more aggressive approach to addressing underperformance. “We typically manage out people who aren’t meeting expectations over the course of a year, but now we’re going to do more extensive performance-based cuts during this cycle,” he stated.

The layoffs are scheduled to begin on February 10 for U.S.-based employees. Zuckerberg described 2024 as an intense year for Meta highlighting its focus on developing key technologies like AI, augmented reality glasses and the future of social media platforms.

Hillary Champion, Meta’s director of people development growth programs, elaborated in a separate memo that employees who received “Met Some” or “Did Not Meet” performance ratings would be “automatically added to the performance termination list.”

Meta aims to achieve 10% non-regrettable attrition combining 5% from last year’s cuts with another 5% this year.

The announcement has raised concerns among Meta employees particularly about the accuracy of the performance review system. One employee criticised the process on an internal message board saying it was only “marginally better than monkeys throwing darts” in reflecting actual performance and contributions.

Some employees also pointed out the challenges of maintaining team morale during such turbulent times. One worker wrote, “Teams aren’t exactly strong when morale is low and this is already a pretty rough ride over the last week.

The layoffs follow recent internal shifts at Meta including the rollback of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives as well as the disbanding of its third-party fact-checking program.

According to Champion, affected employees will receive “generous severance packages.” Meta also plans to backfill the terminated positions in 2025.

These cuts come after Meta previously laid off 21,000 employees between 2022 and 2023.

FAQs

Q1. How many employees will Meta lay off and why?

Answer. Meta is set to lay off 3,600 employees, equivalent to 5% of its workforce, as part of CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s drive to “raise the bar on performance management.”

Q2. What criteria is Meta using for the layoffs?

Answer. Employees who received “Met Some” or “Did Not Meet” performance ratings will be “automatically added to the performance termination list,” aiming to achieve 10% non-regrettable attrition.

Q3. What will happen to affected employees?

Answer. Affected employees will receive “generous severance packages.” Meta also plans to backfill the terminated positions in 2025.

WhatsApp users can now double-tap on a message to react instead of tapping and holding. The most-used emojis will now appear in a scrolling pop-out menu replacing the generic selection that was shown before.

This update works similarly to Discord’s reaction feature, where favourite emojis are easy to find saving the hassle of scrolling through hundreds of emojis. If you still want access to the full emoji library, just tap the plus icon on the reaction bar.

Meanwhile, Meta’s Messenger app still only offers the same five emoji reactions for each message. We think it would be great to see this WhatsApp feature carried over to Messenger in the future.

Creative Tools for Photos, Videos and Selfie Stickers

WhatsApp is also introducing filters and virtual backgrounds that debuted for video calls last year to photos and videos taken in chats. Users can choose from 30 different visual effects to edit their shots directly in the app.

Additionally, WhatsApp has improved sticker functionality including –

  • Sticker packs can now be shared directly in chats.
  • You can turn your selfies into custom stickers by tapping on the sticker icon in the chat.

Sharing details of the selfie sticker feature in its blog, WhatsApp revealed, “You can now turn your selfies into stickers. To get started, tap the create sticker icon and you’ll see the camera option to take a selfie and create your sticker.”

The selfie-to-sticker feature is currently available for Android with support for iOS expected to arrive “soon,” according to WhatsApp.

These updates are designed to make your WhatsApp experience more personalised and enjoyable.

While the leak doesn’t confirm RAM capacities, earlier rumours suggest the base models in the lineup will feature 12GB of RAM upgraded from last year’s 8GB with a possibility of a 16GB variant for the Ultra model.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Series – India Sale Date

The Galaxy S25 Slim will offer a thinner, lighter alternative to the S25 series.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Series  – Promo Images Leak

The marketing image also reveals that the frame and the screen are flat while the bezels are evidently thinner than last year. We can also confirm from these leaked images that the Ultra model will have rounded corners. There is also a glimpse of the Now Bar in One UI 7.

Moreover, both leaked promotional images mention Galaxy AI, which tells us where the focus of the launch is going to be.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Series – Price Hike Confirmed

Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim rumored to launch in May

Earlier rumours based on retailer listings in Europe showing unusual price points hinted at a price increase for the Galaxy S25 series. Now, a report from South Korea has seemingly confirmed the price hike.

Samsung initially planned to go with the pricing of last year but due to increasing component costs and exchange rates had to change the pricing strategy. The global use of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset has contributed to higher production costs.

The latest report suggests that a small price increase has been confirmed for the South Korean market. However, it’s currently unclear if this will apply globally.

Meanwhile, Samsung is reportedly hoping that those consumers who find the flagship series too expensive will opt for more affordable Samsung alternatives such as the A series or the recently launched Galaxy S24 FE.
