Samsung May Replace Galaxy S26+ With S26 Edge Next Year, Says Report

0

Highlights

  • A report suggests Samsung could swap the Galaxy S26+ for a slimmer S26 Edge in 2026.
  • The S25 Edge is thinner than the S25+, costs $100 more and features a 200MP camera but has a smaller battery.
  • Samsung has reportedly started work on the Galaxy S26 series but its progress depends on the S25 Edge’s market performance.

image

It is just been days since Samsung unveiled its new slim Galaxy S25 Edge and we are already hearing about a successor. According to a new report, the Korean company might be planning to launch a Galaxy S26 Edge next year and it could even take the place of the Galaxy S26+. The update comes amid reports that the new Galaxy S25 Edge hasn’t exactly been met with overwhelming excitement.

A report from The Elec says that Samsung intends to swap out the Galaxy S26+ with a slimmer Galaxy S26 Edge in its Galaxy S26 2026 lineup.

Keeping the demand and reception of the new S25 Edge aside, this kind of makes sense on paper.

The Galaxy S25+ and S25 Edge have nearly the same screen size and overall dimensions, but the Edge is thinner. It also costs $100 more but gets an upgrade to the same 200MP camera found in the Ultra model. The only real downside is that the Edge has a smaller battery, which is a major concern for many users.

The report reveals that Samsung has just started working on this new “slim” device, but the project depends on how well the Galaxy S25 Edge performs in the market. According to sources from Samsung’s component suppliers, the company has kicked off development of the Galaxy S26 series under the project name “NPA.” For reference, the Galaxy S25 series went by “PA,” which stood for Paradigm.

The NPA project is still in its early stages. Samsung is currently in the process of selecting its first and second-tier suppliers for the components.

Meanwhile, as stated above, this week’s launch of the Galaxy S25 Edge was met with mixed reactions, with many people wondering why the device even exists. The smaller battery is one reason many tech enthusiasts weren’t excited, especially when Samsung’s phones already tend to fall short in battery life compared to the competition.

Samsung’s push toward slimmer phones might pay off over time, especially as battery technology improves. But expecting major changes within a single year might be too optimistic if the goal is to replace a long-standing device like the S Plus series.

As of now, Samsung is targeting 37.7 million Galaxy S25 units to ship this year. Of that, the Plus model has the lowest sales goal at 6.7 million units, while the standard model aims for 13.6 million and the Ultra leads with 17.4 million.

FAQs

Q1. Will Samsung replace the Galaxy S26+ with the S26 Edge?

Answer. A report suggests Samsung might swap the Galaxy S26+ for a slimmer S26 Edge in 2026, though the decision depends on the market performance of the S25 Edge.

Q2. What are the differences between the Galaxy S25 Edge and S25+?

Answer. The S25 Edge is thinner, costs $100 more, and features a 200MP camera, but it has a smaller battery, which has raised concerns among users.

Q3. What is Samsung’s current development status for the Galaxy S26 series?

Answer. Samsung has started working on the Galaxy S26 series under the project name “NPA” and is selecting suppliers, but the project is still in early stages.

Samsung Takes a Jab at iPhone 16 Pro’s Weight in New Galaxy S25 Edge Instagram Ad

0

Highlights

  • Samsung subtly teases Apple by promoting the Galaxy S25 Edge’s ultra-light and thin design in a new Instagram ad.
  • Samsung’s ad shows the S25 Edge floating gently while the heavier 199g iPhone 16 Pro drops, emphasising its lighter frame.
  • Apple’s slim device reportedly named iPhone 17 Air is expected in September 2025.

Tech companies taking a friendly dig at each other is nothing new. Though it looks like Samsung is in a real “edgy” mood lately. The Korean brand this time is teasing Apple by calling the iPhone 16 Pro heavy

In a new Instagram ad, Samsung promotes its Galaxy S25 Edge by quietly mocking the iPhone 16 Pro’s weight. The ad highlights the Edge’s super-light 163g build and thin 5.8mm design, subtly fueling the ongoing race for slimmer phones, especially with Apple’s rumoured iPhone 17 Air on the horizon.

Samsung’s known for poking fun at Apple, from foldable phone ads like “On the Fence” to making fun of missing chargers.

In its latest post on @samsungmobile, the brand compares the Galaxy S25 Edge to an unnamed “Other Phone”, clearly meant to be the iPhone 16 Pro. In the video, both phones are tied to helium balloons. As the balloons pop, the 163g Galaxy S25 Edge floats gently, while the 199g iPhone 16 Pro drops to the ground. Despite both phones having titanium frames, the Edge is 36g lighter and just 1g heavier than the standard 6.2-inch S25.

The Galaxy S25 Edge comes packed with a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and a 200MP camera, priced at $1,099. Samsung claims it will “accelerate innovation” in the race to make phones slimmer. Fans also appreciate the phone’s IP68 rating and Gorilla Armor 2 protection.

However, some users have raised concerns about its 3,900mAh battery, which is slightly smaller than the iPhone’s 4,000mAh.

Meanwhile, Apple is probably getting ready to respond with the iPhone 17 Air, expected in September 2025. Rumours suggest it could be under 6mm thick and feature the new A19 chip and iOS 19’s AI-powered battery optimisations, possibly giving the Edge some real competition in both slimness and battery life.

Samsung’s playful ad may land well for now, but things could shift if Apple delivers something even lighter. The Galaxy S25 Edge rolls out in Korea and China on May 23, with a global release set for May 30.

FAQs

Q1. How does Samsung’s ad mock the iPhone 16 Pro?

Answer. Samsung’s Instagram ad promotes the Galaxy S25 Edge by highlighting its lightweight 163g build while subtly mocking the iPhone 16 Pro’s heavier 199g weight.

Q2. What does the video comparison show between the two phones?

Answer. In the ad, both phones are tied to helium balloons. When the balloons pop, the Galaxy S25 Edge floats gently due to its lighter frame, while the iPhone 16 Pro drops to the ground.

Q3. How might Apple respond to Samsung’s claims?

Answer. Apple is expected to release the iPhone 17 Air in September 2025. Rumours suggest it could be under 6mm thick with AI-powered battery optimisations, offering competition in both slimness and battery life.

iPhone 18 Pro Might Get Embedded In-Display Face ID: Report

0

Highlights

  • Apple may introduce Face ID embedded directly into the display to eliminate the visible cutout.
  • A company linked to Apple expects this technology to debut in a phone launching in 2026.
  • Display expert Ross Young supports the claim stating that iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models could be the first to feature under-panel Face ID.

image

Caption – Apple is working on embedding Face ID into the display panels soon. (Image credit – Apple)

It’s looking more and more likely that the iPhone 18 Pro will come with Face ID built right into the display. Adding more weight to what has been an ongoing rumour, a company that’s been linked with Apple on this tech just said it expects its solution to appear in a phone releasing in 2026.

Well-known display expert Ross Young on X (formerly Twitter) said they believe the claim is solid. Young also said that it likely refers to the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.

Young wrote, “At the SID Business Conference today, OTI Lumionics CEO Michael Helander confirmed that they expect phones with under panel Face ID using their materials to be available for sale in 2026. This suggests that iPhone 18 Pro models will have under panel Face ID with other brands and models to follow.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about this.

Earlier this month, The Information reported that this in-display Face ID will debut in the iPhone 18 Pro models. “The design of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will include only a small hole cutout in the top-left corner to accommodate the front-facing camera, according to a person with direct knowledge of the matter,” the report said.

Apple has been working on this tech for years and now a new development makes it seem like the days of the Dynamic Island are numbered. Apple’s patents show it’s been trying to hide Face ID sensors beneath the screen. This means putting both the dot projector and the sensor under the display so there’s no need for a visible cutout.

Once that’s in place, Apple can remove the Dynamic Island completely and just keep a single punch-hole for the front camera. That camera itself going under the display will take more time.

A patent Apple published this year hints that the company may have figured out the biggest hurdle, which was infrared light not passing well through displays. Apple’s solution is to “remove subpixels from the display in a way that won’t be noticeable.”

Now, with Ross Young backing the recent claim, it appears we are inching closer to getting the tech in an iPhone soon.

FAQs

Q1. Will the iPhone 18 Pro have in-display Face ID?
