Apple is all set to reveal iOS 26 at WWDC25 on Monday, June 9 at 1 PM ET.  While all eyes will be on the biggest design overhaul since iOS 7, there’s a lot more happening behind the scenes. Along with a fresh new look and some rebranded operating systems, reports now suggest Apple has also been working on updates for everyday apps like Messages, Music, Notes and CarPlay.

According to an exclusive 9to5Mac report, here are some of the low-key but exciting features that could be announced as part of iOS 26

Automatic Message Translation

Apple is adding automatic translation to Messages, allowing both incoming and outgoing texts to be translated on the fly. While it might not match the real-time dubbing seen in Google Meet or Microsoft Teams just yet, this could still be a game-changer for anyone chatting across languages.

Polls in Messages

Apple is finally catching up to apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Slack by working on polls in Messages. Even better, Apple Intelligence might play a role here, suggesting poll formats based on your chat. It’s one of those quality-of-life features that just makes sense.

Animated Lock Screen Art in Music

The Now Playing widget on the Lock Screen recently got a visual upgrade, and now Apple is taking things further. With iOS 26, you can expect full-screen animated album art on your Lock Screen, a stylish, dynamic touch that enhances the listening experience.

Markdown Export in Notes

For those who love writing in Markdown, Apple Notes is finally adding Markdown export support. While this might be a niche addition, it’s a long-requested feature that brings Apple Notes closer to third-party alternatives.

CarPlay Gets a UI Refresh

CarPlay is also getting a design update to match the new iOS 26 look.

The redesign will apply to the regular (non-Ultra) CarPlay, not just the newer CarPlay Ultra. While the full extent of the changes is still unknown, Apple is reportedly working on multiple interface tweaks to bring it in line with the rest of the ecosystem.

WWDC25 – What To Expect?

Apple is expected to announce updates across all major platforms including iOS 26, macOS 26, iPadOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS.

While AI might not be the main focus this year, expect major design upgrades and long-requested features like better window management on iPad.

FAQS

Galaxy S25 Edge Teardown Reveals the Secrets Behind Samsung’s Slimmest Flagship Yet

0

Highlights

  • Teardown video reveals the Galaxy S25 Edge achieved a slim design by removing the USB-C housing and using a thinner vibrator motor.
  • The phone features a wide vapour chamber cooling system with the chipset sitting directly on it and a redesigned thinner motherboard.
  • The battery was trimmed down to maintain the slim profile, but it includes Samsung’s quick-release system for easier removal.
  • The titanium frame doubles as a support structure, saving space.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge launched last month and at just 5.8mm thin, it’s one of the slimmest flagship phones Samsung has ever made. The Korean brand recently shared some engineering details. But if you’ve been curious about what’s going on under the hood of the actual phone, a new teardown video is out. It gives us a closer look at the impressive engineering that made this design possible.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge – Teardown

image

The teardown comes from none other than JerryRigEverything, a YouTuber known for stress-testing and dismantling popular smartphones. After acing his durability and bend tests, the Galaxy S25 Edge now goes under the knife of JerryRigEverything.

One of the standout discoveries is the super-thin vibrator motor placed just below the fingerprint scanner. It’s noticeably slimmer than what Samsung typically uses in its flagships.

The teardown also shows how Samsung ditched a separate USB-C housing, instead using the titanium frame itself to guide the charger, a smart move to shave off a bit more bulk.

image

Opening the phone is fairly straightforward. They apply some heat to loosen the adhesive, then use a suction cup to pull the back panel off. Once inside, you’ll find a ton of screws and clever layout choices made to reduce thickness.

For example, the speaker’s waterproofing membrane is angled due to the tight internal space. The USB-C port is bare with no housing and the titanium frame doubles as a support structure.

The vapour chamber cooling system is another highlight. It’s wide and flat and takes up more space to help manage heat. Interestingly, the chipset sits directly on the vapour chamber with a thick layer of thermal paste in between. This is quite unlike in the Galaxy S25 Ultra, where it sits on a dedicated frame.

The motherboard layout has also been redesigned to be thinner, possibly hinting at what we can expect from slim phones in the future, even from brands like Apple

Removing the battery is incredibly easy too, thanks to the same quick-release system introduced in other S25 models. Unsurprisingly, the battery is one of the areas where Samsung trimmed down to hit the 5.8mm profile.

You can check out the entire teardown video below –

FAQs

Q1. How did Samsung achieve the ultra-slim design of the Galaxy S25 Edge?

Answer. The Galaxy S25 Edge is just 5.8mm thick, making it Samsung’s slimmest flagship. The company achieved this by removing the USB-C housing, using a thinner vibrator motor, and trimming down the battery, while the titanium frame doubles as a support structure.

Q2. What cooling system does the Galaxy S25 Edge use?

Answer. The phone features a wide vapour chamber cooling system, and unlike the Galaxy S25 Ultra, its chipset sits directly on the vapour chamber with a thick layer of thermal paste in between for improved heat dissipation.

Q3. How easy is it to remove the battery in the Galaxy S25 Edge?

Answer. Samsung included its quick-release battery system, making battery removal easier compared to older flagship designs. However, the battery itself was slimmed down to maintain the 5.8mm profile.

iPhone 17 and 17 Air Could Get 120Hz Displays, But Without Full ProMotion Features

0

Highlights

  • The iPhone 17 and 17 Air are expected to get standard 120Hz screens, but without ProMotion’s adaptive refresh rate.
  • The Pro and Pro Max models are likely to retain LTPO technology, keeping Always-On Display (AOD) exclusive to the Pro lineup.
  • Apple reportedly may not extend high refresh rates to all devices.

image

The upcoming iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air might finally get 120Hz displays, but not with all the advanced ProMotion features found on the Pro models. At least, that’s what new leaks are suggesting. Here’s the full story.

iPhone 17 and 17 Air With 120Hz Displays

According to a recent post on Weibo by tipster Fixed Focus Digital (FFD), the displays are just an ordinary 120hz screen without a ProMotion adaptive refresh rate. Fixed Focus Digital post read (translated via Google Translate), “To correct a piece of news, overseas and Aggio shared the problem of the display refresh rate of the iPhone 17 series a few days ago. Latest channel news: It’s just an ordinary 120hz screen, but not a ProMotion adaptive refresh rate.”

Caption – Tipster Fixed Focus Digital’s recent post on Weibo. (Translated via Google Translate)

That means while the iPhone 17 and 17 Air may get smoother scrolling and better visuals in games, they’ll likely miss out on the variable refresh rate tech that helps with battery efficiency.

Now to back on the rumour mill, it was display analyst Ross Young who predicted last year that Apple would bring ProMotion to the entire iPhone 17 lineup, including the base and Air models.

At first, a report from another reliable Weibo leaker named Digital Chat Station (DCS) seemed to support that idea, mentioning high refresh-rate displays for the non-Pro models. However, it now looks like those displays might not be full ProMotion panels after all.

As of now, Apple’s smooth 120Hz ProMotion displays have been exclusive to the Pro iPhones.

What Does Both Display Techs Mean?

ProMotion screens can dynamically adjust their refresh rate, going from 120Hz all the way down to 1Hz, which helps with battery life and enables features like Always-On Display (AOD).

The standard 120Hz panels, like the ones expected on the 17 and 17 Air, usually offer fixed rates like 60Hz, 90Hz, or 120Hz, without the power-saving flexibility.

The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, on the other hand, are still expected to feature LTPO panels, which are more advanced and energy-efficient. AOD remains a Pro-only feature for now, and it’s still unclear if that will change with the 17 series.

Interestingly, while LTPO technology has become more affordable, appearing even in some mid-range phones, Apple seems to be holding it back for the Pro models.

Lastly, don’t expect every model to get 120Hz. The iPhone 17e, which is part of Apple’s upcoming yearly release cycle for the “e” series, isn’t guaranteed to join the high-refresh-rate club when it reportedly launches in early 2026.

FAQs

Q1. Will the iPhone 17 and 17 Air have ProMotion displays?

Answer. No, the iPhone 17 and 17 Air will get standard 120Hz screens but without ProMotion’s adaptive refresh rate, meaning smoother visuals but no battery-saving variable refresh technology.

Q2. Which iPhone 17 models will still feature LTPO and ProMotion?

Answer. The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are expected to retain LTPO technology, allowing dynamic refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz, which improves efficiency and keeps Always-On Display (AOD) exclusive to the Pro lineup.

Q3. Will all iPhone 17 models have 120Hz displays?

Answer. No, not every iPhone 17 model will get 120Hz. The iPhone 17e, set to launch in early 2026, may not join the high-refresh-rate lineup.

YouTube iOS App Drops Support for iPhone 6 Series, Original SE and Older iPads

0

Highlights

  • YouTube’s latest update (version 20.22.1) now requires iOS 16 and iPadOS 16.
  • This means support is dropped for iPhone 6 series, original iPhone SE, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4 and iPod touch 7.
  • Owners of these older devices won’t get new YouTube updates but can still use the app for now.
  • Users can also access YouTube via web browsers, but the experience won’t be as smooth as the app.

image

YouTube just rolled out a new update version 20.22.1 for its iOS and iPadOS app. However, it’s quietly ended support for several older iPhones and iPads in the update process. This happened since the app has bumped the minimum OS requirement to iOS 16 and iPadOS 16. This change comes just ahead of Apple’s WWDC event and here’s what it means for your device.

Which Devices Are No Longer Supported?

If your device can’t run iOS 16 or iPadOS 16, it won’t be able to get the latest YouTube app update. That includes the following –

  • iPhone 6
  • iPhone 6 Plus
  • iPhone 6s
  • iPhone 6s Plus
  • iPhone SE (1st Gen)
  • iPad Air 2
  • iPad mini 4

All these devices stop at iOS/iPadOS 15, which is now no longer enough for the latest version of YouTube.

Also left out is the iPod touch 7, Apple’s last iPod, which launched in 2019 and was discontinued in 2022. It can’t run iOS 16, so it too misses out.

What Happens If You Own One of These?

If you’re using one of these older devices, you won’t get the new YouTube update. But the current app will still work, at least for now.

You’ll still be able to watch videos, but new features and updates won’t come your way and eventually, older versions of the app will stop working altogether. You can still use YouTube in a web browser as a fallback, although it won’t offer the same smooth experience as the app.

While Apple’s older devices are known for their longevity, even these are starting to show their age. For context, the most recent iPhone affected by this change was launched nine years ago and was discontinued six years ago.

For the full list of devices that support iOS 16 or iPadOS 16, you can check out Apple’s official support page.

FAQs

Q1. Which devices no longer support the latest YouTube update?

Answer. The update requires iOS 16 and iPadOS 16, meaning older devices stuck on iOS/iPadOS 15 can’t get the new YouTube app version. This includes iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, SE (1st Gen), iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4, iPod touch 7 and Apple’s last iPod.

Q2. Can I still use YouTube on my older device?

Answer. Yes, you can still use the existing YouTube app, but you won’t receive new features or updates. Over time, older app versions may stop working altogether.

Q3. How can I watch YouTube if my device isn’t supported?

Answer. You can still access YouTube through a web browser on your device. However, the experience won’t be as smooth as using the app.
