It seems OnePlus is experimenting with flat display tech for its next mid-range phones. We are hearing this thanks to a new leak from China. The leak suggests that OnePlus is might go for flat display featuring 1.5K resolution, a 165Hz refresh rate and an upgraded touch IC for improved responsiveness. Here’s more on that.
The information comes from reliable tipster Digital Chat Station, who says this combination could significantly enhance both motion smoothness and touch response time. Interestingly, the technology is currently undergoing verification testing in OnePlus’ mid-range lineup, a rarity since ultra-high refresh rates like 165Hz are typically reserved for premium flagship devices.
If the tests go well, the feature could eventually make its way to the brand’s top-tier smartphones.
According to the Weibo tipster, Xiaomi’s Redmi division is also exploring a similar 165Hz display solution, possibly as a direct response to OnePlus’ testing. The tipster adds that OnePlus is working on a tablet with the same display technology, though the specific debut device remains unconfirmed.
If the leak proves accurate, the first phone to feature this display could be part of the upcoming Ace 6 series. The standard OnePlus Ace 6 is rumoured to ship with a 1.5K 165Hz screen, an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, a Snapdragon 8-series processor and a metal middle frame.
However, it’s unclear if it will include IP68 water and dust resistance.
The OnePlus Ace 6 is expected to launch in October in China. As for its global debut, multiple reports have indicated that it may come out in the international market rebranded as the OnePlus 15R.
