OnePlus is reportedly preparing to introduce its next-generation flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 16, later this year. Early leaks suggest that the upcoming device could bring major upgrades in performance, memory technology, and camera capabilities. Here’s what we know based on recent leaks.
According to a new leak by well-known tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo (via Gizmochina), the OnePlus 16 could be powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset, identified by the model number SM8975. The processor is expected to be built on a 2nm manufacturing process and will reportedly support the next-generation LPDDR6 RAM standard.
Reports indicate that LPDDR6 memory could nearly double the maximum bandwidth compared to the original LPDDR5 standard. While LPDDR5 offers a peak bandwidth of 6.4 Gbps, LPDDR6 could reach speeds of up to 14.4 Gbps. The new memory technology is also said to be optimised to handle the heavy data throughput required by on-device generative AI tasks.
Notably, the inclusion of LPDDR6 could also lead to a higher price tag. Rising memory costs may push the price upward and tipster Digital Chat Station recently suggested that the base 12GB RAM and 256GB storage variant might be priced around 5,000 Yuan (approximately $725).
Several reports have previously hinted that the OnePlus 16 could feature a 200-megapixel camera. The latest leak from tipster DCS adds that the device may include a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera.
Earlier reports suggest that this sensor could be the Samsung HP5. The camera system is also expected to include two additional 50-megapixel sensors for the primary and ultra-wide cameras.
Past reports indicate that the OnePlus 16 may feature an OLED display with 1.5K resolution. The panel could also support an unusually high refresh rate of either 200Hz or 240Hz, which would make it one of the fastest displays on a smartphone.
The handset is also tipped to feature an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication.
On the software side, the smartphone is expected to run Android 17 with OxygenOS 17 layered on top.
Early reports suggest that the OnePlus 16 could debut in China in October 2026. The global launch is expected to follow shortly after, likely in November.
As of now, the company is expected to unveil the OnePlus 15T later this month. The compact flagship is likely to be the final device in the OnePlus 15 series before the brand shifts its attention to the next-generation lineup in the second half of 2026.
