OnePlus has been steadily improving its smartphone cameras over the past few years. The brand has addressed one of the most common criticisms it faced in earlier models, which was the image quality. Now, the company seems ready to take a major leap forward with a new in-house innovation. Here’s what we know.
According to tipster Yogesh Brar via a report published exclusively on Smartprix, OnePlus is reportedly working on its first-ever self-developed “Image Engine.” It is described as “a proprietary platform built to take full control of photo and video processing.”
The new platform is expected to include advanced imaging algorithms designed to improve low-light performance, skin tone accuracy, and dynamic range, delivering results “in ways OnePlus has never been able to before.”
The OnePlus 15 is said to be the first device to feature this new Image Engine. The upcoming flagship is rumoured to sport a triple 50MP rear camera setup and run on Qualcomm’s next-gen Snapdragon Elite chipset.
However, the introduction of OnePlus’s own image processing system has raised questions about its long-standing partnership with Hasselblad. Recent rumours suggest that the collaboration may not continue with the OnePlus 15.
It also remains uncertain whether the OnePlus Image Engine will be entirely new technology or if it could simply be a rebranded version of Oppo’s Lumo platform, given the companies’ shared ecosystem.
In separate news, a OnePlus model with the CPH2747 model number has recently received approval from TUV Rheinland. It is believed to be for the global market and even though the official name of the smartphone is not confirmed, reports suggest it might be OnePlus 15’s global variant.
The TUV Rheinland certification screenshot confirms that the phone will support 121W fast charging. If this indeed is OnePlus, it confirms we will be getting a slight upgrade compared predecessor OnePlus 13’s 100W charging support.
