Nothing has officially rolled out the Nothing OS 4.0 open beta update based on Android 16 for its Nothing Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro models. This comes shortly after the update was made available for the Nothing Phone (3), Phone (2), Phone (2a), and Phone (2a) Plus earlier this month, keeping with the company’s promised timeline. Here’s all you need to know about the update.
The latest Nothing OS 4.0 beta introduces several design refinements and new features aimed at enhancing the user experience.
The update brings a redesigned icon pack with a “refreshed visual language that’s lighter, more refined, and uniquely Nothing.” The company also notes that “further improvements” will be made based on user feedback during the beta phase.
Another major addition is the new Lock Glimpse feature, which introduces fresh, high-quality wallpapers curated to your preferences across nine categories. This feature can also display timely updates and relevant content to enhance your lock screen experience. In a future update, Lock Glimpse will allow users to showcase their personal photos on the lock screen for a more customised experience.
Aside from these, other Nothing OS 4.0 improvements remain consistent with what was rolled out to previous models.
Interested users can now join the open beta program for the Nothing Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro, but they must first ensure their device is running the latest stable version. The required builds are:
Before proceeding, Nothing strongly recommends backing up all personal data. The deadline to enrol in the beta program is November 7, 2025.
If the update doesn’t appear automatically, you can manually check by navigating to Settings > System > System updates.
After successful installation, users can share their feedback via Settings > System > Feedback or through the official Nothing community forum.
If users want to revert to Nothing OS 3.5, Nothing has provided an official rollback option. However, it’s important to note that this process will factory reset the device and erase all user data.
