Motorola with its G Series appears to be in a constant expansion mode beyond the 20K smartphone price segment. The Moto G82, a mid-range smartphone that debuted a few months ago in the international market, is the brand’s attempt to capture the segment. The highlights in the specifications section of Moto G82 remain its 6.6-inch OLED 120Hz display and a 50 MP primary camera, stereo speakers, and an IP52 rating.
While the market is flooded with options in this smartphone segment, does Moto G82 stands a chance to make it through the shopping cart? Let’s get into our in-depth Moto G82 review to understand whether this device is something you should be considering while planning your next smartphone upgrade.
Moto G82, when it comes to design, evidently took a lot of inspiration from some of the previous Motorola smartphones. The design cues from Moto G52 and Moto G62 are visible along with some finishes Motorola Edge 30 thrown in between. All four smartphones have a relatively similar setup. And similar to Edge 30, the brand has claimed that G82 5G is also the lightest and slimmest smartphone available in the market in the segment. With a flattened plastic frame, G82 has curved body edges that make it easier to hold and perfect for single-hand usage.
The 6.6-inch pOLED display panel ensures that the display is thinner and it also is why the \the bezel size is down. For the selfie camera, G82 5G back has a hole-punch cutout. There is a side-mounted fingerprint scanner along with sound control buttons on the right side.
The IP52 rating should make the smartphone splash-resistant, however, many early critic reviews appointed out that the device easily catches fingerprints on the body. Constantly cleaning may be needed to get rid of the fingerprints. Moreover, to tackle this issue, Motorola also added a clear case in the package.
Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 octa-core SoC, Moto G82 has two RAM variants even though the storage of 128 GB is similar for both variants. It comes with a hybrid SIM slot, which means that to be able to expand the storage of the device, users will have to let go of the second SIM slot. The device, otherwise, is loaded with features that make it worthy in the segment it is targeting. It has stereo speakers, Dolby Atmos support
Moto G82 is 13 5G bands support along with connectivity support of Bluetooth 5.1, dual-band Wi-Fi, and dual-4G VoLTE connectivity. Furthermore, the smartphone sports a 6.6-inch full high definition plus resolution display that promises 100% DCI-P3 gamut coverage. It has a 360Hz touch sampling rate and a 120Hz refresh rate for faster and smoother screen fluidity.
The brand claims that the 10-bit borderless display provides 64 times better colour experience. It can transform into more than a billion colour shades in order to provide true-to-life colour on the screen. Users would be thrilled to experience infinite contrast of deeper blacks and much richer darks on the screen with this device. Moto G82 could be a decent device for entertainment and streaming purposes with its 25 per cent extra colours that only enhance the cinematic standards and colour accuracy.
For battery support, the smartphone is packed with an ultimate 5,000 mAh battery. The battery is further capable of 30W fast charging. To increase the power efficiency of the device, Motorola has also added a 33W TurboPower charger in the device packaging box.
The camera of Moto G82 5G is impressive and checks the most significant boxes that can turn the photography experience with this smartphone pleasant. It is a triple camera setup, which by now should be regarded as the standard. It has a 50-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. The primary camera is coupled with optical stabilisation (OIS) for optimum performance.
As for selfies, the Moto G82 5G has a 16-megapixel selfie camera in the front.
