At MWC 2024, MediaTek announced the addition of the MediaTek T300 platform to its 5G RedCap portfolio for IoT applications.

The T300 is a 5G RedCap RF-system-on-chip (SoC) that incorporates MediaTek’s M60 modem, supporting the 3GPP Release-17 standard to provide improvements over 4G IoT solutions.

The T300 features an antenna design with integrated RF to extend battery life in 5G devices and reduce development time and costs.

The M60 modem lowers power consumption by up to 60% against LTE Cat-4 alternatives and up to 70% against existing 5G eMMB solutions, aiding manufacturers in enhancing energy efficiency in device deployments across the IIoT, mobile market, security, logistics, and IoT edge devices.

JC Hsu, Corporate Senior Vice President at MediaTek, stated that the T300 leverages 5G’s speed, reliability, and latency advantages while meeting the specific cost and power needs of IoT devices.

The T300 offers downlink/uplink peak rates of up to 227/122 Mbps and supports the 3GPP Release-17 standard 5G modem with features for energy efficiency, including paging early indication and radio link monitoring while active.

It also incorporates an 800 MHz CPU for responsiveness.

T300 features include MediaTek’s UltraSave 4.0 technology for reduced power consumption, 5G NSA and 5G SA support, support for LTE & NR-FR1 (20MHz), up to 256 QAM DL/UL for reliability, 1T2R MIMO / 1CC for lower latency, and dual SIM single active (DSSA) and network slicing for various IoT applications.

MediaTek is working with infrastructure and operator partners globally to connect to 5G SA networks and perform VoNR calls and data transmissions with the MediaTek T300.

At MWC 2024, MediaTek is showcasing the first on-device Generative AI video diffusion powered entirely by its flagship 5G mobile processor, the Dimensity 9300.

This leading smartphone chip incorporates the world’s first hardware-based Generative AI Engine with secure, personalized AI, capable of bandwidth reduction, LoRA Fusion, and 8X faster generative AI performance versus MediaTek’s previous generation AI processor.

Expanding Auto Industry Collaborations

Dimensity Auto will promote safety-first features through virtualized operating systems within vehicles as demonstrated using OpenSynergy Hypervisor technology. Additionally, MediaTek and ACCESS Twine4Car are working together to develop richer multi-screen entertainment and interactive services.

Central to these partnerships, the Dimensity Auto smart cockpit and infotainment platforms provide highly capable processing that can handle multiple operating systems, several wireless connectivity feeds, multiple concurrent video playbacks and even advanced 3D graphics and generative AI for the driver and passengers in the vehicle.

World’s First RedCap RFSoC Platform for 5G IoT and Wearables

The newly-announced MediaTek T300 platform will make it easy for IoT designers to transition to 5G-NR in applications that require ultra-efficient connectivity and long-lasting battery life, such as wearables, light-weight AR devices, and always-connected IoT modules.

At MWC 2024, MediaTek will demonstrate how it can achieve consistently low latency (URLLC) for AR and IIoT applications, servicing critical traffic flows with precise scheduling granularity to significantly and reliably reduce transmission latency compared to previous generation connectivity.

The low power demonstration showcases the performance and capabilities of MediaTek’s new RedCap RFSoC using the Keysight UXM5G Wireless Test Platform.

Exclusive New 5G CPE Technologies Enhancing Performance and User Experiences
MediaTek is demonstrating its latest features for 5G CPE devices powered by its T830 platform, including uplink performance enhancements using three transmission antennae (3TX) applicable across 5G NR band combinations; and Low-Latency, Low-Loss, and Scalable Throughput (L4S), which significantly reduces network delays and greatly improves the user experience compared to legacy designs. The demonstration is performed in collaboration with the Anritsu MT8000A test station.

World’s First 5G-Advanced Satellite Broadband & Foundation of Pre-6G NTN User Experience

Following the successful launch of the MediaTek MT6825 in 2023, the company is continuing to lead the satellite communication technology with a live demonstration of its next-generation, 5G-Advanced NR-NTN satellite test chip that will deliver more than 100Mbps data throughput with advanced LEO satellite support over Ku-band for automotive and broader types of terminals, in collaboration with Rohde & Schwarz using the SMW200A Victor Signal Generator, R&S FSW Signal Analyzer and ITRI NR NTN test gNB.

MediaTek will provide an example of the future of personal networks through ambient computing and connectivity convergence. As home IoT devices continue to grow, managing them from outside the house is usually performed through third-party servers and services.

A private ambient (virtual) network that utilizes 5G devices and home routers would mitigate the need for a complicated setup – such as port forwarding and secure tunnelling – by providing a streamlined experience with increased privacy, more reliable and customizable service, and a faster response.

This results in simpler home IoT management tasks, network storage streaming, and improved aggregated computing, either processing from a single device or distributed through multiple devices simultaneously.
