All rumours suggest the iPhone 16 series is going to debut in the global market on 10th September 2024.
While this date is speculative and we will update you as soon as there’s an official confirmation, non-stop leaks have revealed almost every key detail about the upcoming phones.
With a recent report, we have almost the entire camera setup of iPhone 16 models out in the open.
Here’s what we know about the recent report.
Both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will continue to feature a dual-camera system on the back.
They will have a primary wide camera offering 1X and 2X zoom, and a secondary ultra-wide camera for .5X zoom.
A notable change, however, is in the design.
With the iPhone 16, we are getting a vertical alignment of the camera modules.
This is a clear departure from the previous diagonal arrangement.
The primary camera will remain a 48MP sensor with an f/1.6 aperture and 2X optical telephoto capability, just as in previous models.
However, the ultra-wide camera will receive a significant upgrade with a faster f/2.2 aperture, improving performance in low-light conditions.
Additionally, these non-Pro models are expected to support macro photography for the first time.
The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will also maintain their triple-camera setup.
This will include a wide camera, an ultra-wide camera, and a telephoto camera.
The primary sensor remains unchanged at 48MP with an f/1.78 aperture, capable of delivering 2X optical-quality 12MP telephoto shots with 1.22-micrometer pixels.
A major enhancement for this year’s Pro models is the introduction of a 5X telephoto lens, previously exclusive to the Pro Max model.
This lens will replace the 3X telephoto lens found in the iPhone 15 Pro and will feature a 12MP resolution with an f/2.8 aperture.
MacRumors recently reported, “The iPhone 16 Pro Max could feature a super telephoto periscope camera for a dramatically increased optical zoom. The information comes from a Weibo account that has provided accurate information in the past, but it has not yet been backed up by a second reliable source.”
The ultra-wide lens on the Pro models will also see a substantial upgrade, increasing to 48MP and featuring pixel-binning technology similar to the primary camera.
It will offer .7 micrometre pixels at full resolution or 1.4-micrometer pixels in quad-pixel mode.
Users will be able to capture 48MP ProRaw photos with this upgraded lens, providing greater flexibility in post-processing.
Perhaps the most exciting new feature is the addition of a capacitive capture button.
We heard about the debut of Capture Button across all four iPhone 16 models long ago.
Positioned on the lower-right corner of the device, this button is designed for use in landscape mode.
It is designed to be accessed with the camera bump at the top and your index finger resting on the button.
The capacitive nature of the button means it requires a touch to activate, preventing accidental triggers while in your pocket.
It also offers a force-sensitive half-press, which can be used to lock exposure and focus before fully pressing to take a photo.
The button is specifically designed to work with camera apps, allowing users to choose which app—whether Apple’s own or a third-party app—the button will open.
Additionally, the button will function as a mini trackpad, enabling users to perform different actions by sliding their finger along its surface, with these actions being tied to a developer API for customization.
Beyond these hardware improvements, the iPhone 16 series will support a new image format called JPEG-XL.
This format addition will be provided alongside existing formats like HEIF, JPEG, HEIF Max, ProRaw, and ProRAW Max.
Moreover, the Pro models will be capable of shooting 3K video at 120 frames per second with Dolby Vision.
The current options include 1080P at 120FPS or 240FPS, and 4K at 60FPS available on the iPhone 15 Pro models.
The upcoming launch of the iPhone 16 Pro models is generating a lot of excitement, and for good reason.
Apple is set to introduce several notable upgrades and new features that promise to enhance the user experience.
Here’s a sneak peek at what you can expect:
These enhancements, along with other rumoured features like a brighter display and larger battery, make the iPhone 16 Pro models highly anticipated.
Stay tuned for more details as the launch date approaches.
