Microsoft has officially launched its Copilot AI app on the Mac App Store, bringing its AI-powered assistant to macOS users. While it was previously available only on iPhone and iPad, Copilot now has a dedicated macOS app with full support for keyboard shortcuts. This will make it easier for Mac users to access Microsoft’s AI assistant on their device.
However, using the app on Mac won’t be that straightforward.
Copilot only works on Macs with Apple silicon (M1 chip or later) running macOS 14.0 or higher. That means Intel-based Macs won’t be able to run the app. While a version of Copilot did work on Macs last year, it was actually the iPad version running on macOS. Microsoft later removed it but now, Copilot is back with a proper Mac app.
Copilot on Mac – What Can It Do?
According to Microsoft, Copilot is designed to be an AI companion for everyday life, offering tools for text and image generation, writing assistance, research help and much more.
Some key features you can expect are as follows –
AI-powered chat for answering questions, brainstorming ideas, and refining thoughts
Text generation and editing including composing emails, resumes, and cover letters
Multilingual translation and proofreading across hundreds of languages
AI image generation, allowing users to turn text prompts into high-quality visuals
Photo editing tools, including background removal and custom image creation
Content creation for social media, branding and even children’s book illustrations
Film and video storyboard visualisation for creatives and filmmakers
Copilot is designed to provide “straightforward answers to complex questions” and help users “achieve more with AI.”
Microsoft also highlights its ability to summarise text, generate creative content and provide AI-powered insights.

OpenAIhas officially launched GPT-4.5, its latest and most refined ChatGPT model yet. While it brings better accuracy, fewer hallucinations and improved emotional intelligence, OpenAI clarifies that GPT-4.5 is not its most advanced model for now.
Today we’re releasing a research preview of GPT-4.5—our largest and best model for chat yet.

Announcing the new mode and acknowledging that it is different, Open AI CEO Sam Altman wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “this isn’t a reasoning model and won’t crush benchmarks. it’s a different kind of intelligence and there’s a magic to it i haven’t felt before. really excited for people to try it!”
GPT-4.5 is ready!
good news: it is the first model that feels like talking to a thoughtful person to me. i have had several moments where i’ve sat back in my chair and been astonished at getting actually good advice from an AI.
bad news: it is a giant, expensive model. we…

Here’s all we know so far.
GPT-4.5 – Smarter, More Natural Model
OpenAI acknowledges that its model lineup can be confusing and GPT-4.5 doesn’t change that. While it’s the newest model, OpenAI’s o3 reasoning model remains its most powerful. The company describes GPT-4.5 as a research preview rather than a frontier model.
A bigger change is expected later this year with the release of GPT-5, which aims to combine fast chat responses with deeper reasoning without switching models.

For now, GPT-4.5 replaces GPT-4o, bringing more accuracy, fewer hallucinations and better emotional intelligence. OpenAI highlights that GPT-4.5 is more conversational, it may encourage dialogue rather than just providing answers. It’s also more concise and natural-sounding, making conversations flow better.
For now, GPT-4.5 is available to Pro users on the $200/month plan. However, more users will get access soon. The plans with the timeline are as follows –
Next week: ChatGPT Plus ($20/month) & Team subscribers
Following week: Enterprise & Education users

Ex-OpenAI Leaders Are Building New AI Startups
While OpenAI continues to push forward, several of its former key figures have left to create their own AI startups, many of which are attracting massive investments.
One of the most notable ventures is Thinking Machines Lab, founded by Mira Murati, OpenAI’s former Chief Technology Officer. She has brought along more than 30 AI experts from OpenAI, Meta, and Google DeepMind. Co-founders include Lilian Weng, who previously served as OpenAI’s Vice President of AI Safety, and John Schulman, a former researcher at Anthropic.
Describing its focus areas, Thinking Machines Lab mentions, “While AI capabilities have advanced dramatically, key gaps remain. The scientific community’s understanding of frontier AI systems lags behind rapidly advancing capabilities. Knowledge of how these systems are trained is concentrated within the top research labs, limiting both the public discourse on AI and people’s abilities to use AI effectively. And, despite their potential, these systems remain difficult for people to customize to their specific needs and values. To bridge the gaps, we’re building Thinking Machines Lab to make AI systems more widely understood, customizable and generally capable. […] Emphasis on human-AI collaboration. Instead of focusing solely on making fully autonomous AI systems, we are excited to build multimodal systems that work with people collaboratively.”
“More flexible, adaptable, and personalized AI systems. We see enormous potential for AI to help in every field of work. While current systems excel at programming and mathematics, we’re building AI that can adapt to the full spectrum of human expertise and enable a broader spectrum of applications,” it further adds.
The company is focused on multimodal AI with practical applications and is reportedly raising $1 billion at a $9 billion valuation.
Another major startup is Safe Superintelligence (SSI), co-founded by Ilya Sutskever, OpenAI’s former Chief Scientist. He is joined by Daniel Levy, an ex-OpenAI researcher, and Daniel Gross, who previously led Apple’s AI projects. SSI raised $1 billion in September 2024 and is now reportedly seeking another $1 billion at a staggering $30 billion valuation.
SSI explains its purpose: “Building safe superintelligence (SSI) is the most important technical problem of our time. We have started the world’s first straight-shot SSI lab, with one goal and one product: a safe superintelligence. It’s called Safe Superintelligence Inc.”
“SSI is our mission, our name, and our entire product roadmap, because it is our sole focus. Our team, investors, and business model are all aligned to achieve SSI. […] We approach safety and capabilities in tandem, as technical problems to be solved through revolutionary engineering and scientific breakthroughs. We plan to advance capabilities as fast as possible while making sure our safety always remains ahead,” it adds.
Meanwhile, Eureka Labs was founded by former OpenAI scientist and Tesla AI director Andrej Karpathy, and is working on an AI-native educational platform. Karpathy, a founding member of OpenAI, has been developing Eureka Labs since 2024, aiming to reshape the future of AI-driven education.
Announcing its mission, Eureka Labs writes, “How can we approach an ideal experience for learning something new? For example, in the case of physics one could imagine working through very high quality course materials together with Feynman, who is there to guide you every step of the way. Unfortunately, subject matter experts who are deeply passionate, great at teaching, infinitely patient and fluent in all of the world’s languages are also very scarce and cannot personally tutor all 8 billion of us on demand.”
With these former OpenAI leaders branching out, the competition to define the next wave of AI advancements is more intense than ever.

Instagram is reportedly considering launching a standalone app for Reels, possibly taking advantage of TikTok’s uncertain situationin the US. While there’s no official confirmation yet, discussions around the “Reels app” have begun.
According to a report from The Information, Instagram head Adam Mosseri told employees that a separate app for Reels is under consideration. However, it’s unclear whether Reels will remain on Instagram or move entirely to the new app.
This move could help Instagram attract more users to Reels, especially since TikTok was briefly banned in the US and is now facing a 75-day deadline to comply with new laws.
Reels have become a major part of Instagram, with the platform heavily prioritising short-form video content. Instagram even launched a video editing app for Reels called Edits, which many saw as a direct competitor to the editing app called CapCut owned by TikTok’s parent company ByteDance.
Meanwhile, Instagram is under fire for showing users Reels with violent and explicit content even when their algorithm preferences don’t align with such videos. Some users reported seeing extreme violence and uncensored adult content even after selecting the “Not Interested” option.
Meta has since acknowledged and fixed the issue, according to CNBC. There’s also an option to reset the algorithm, but it’s unclear if all users are still experiencing the problem.
With TikTok’s future in the US uncertain, Instagram could be making a strategic move by giving Reels its own platform. We expect more details might emerge soon.

Reviewers reveal the iPhone 16e has a 3,961mAh battery.
Apple’s in-house 5G modem C1 chip performs well with comparable efficiency to Qualcomm’s modems.
Notable drawbacks include the lack of MagSafe support and reliance on older Qi wireless charging technology.

Apple is known for not revealing the exact battery size of its products. However, the brand launched its value-focused iPhone 16e recently claiming a larger battery. In its launch video, Apple claimed the 16e offers “unprecedented” battery life for a phone of this class. Now that reviews are out, thetech reviewers have tested and confirmed the large battery size.
iPhone 16e vs. iPhone 16 – Battery
According to tech reviewer Dave Lee, the iPhone 16e packs a 3,961mAh battery delivering big phone battery life in a smaller 6.1-inch device. In his review, he says, “the battery life of a big phone, a plus-product, a max-type product, except it’s a normal size phone with a 6.1-inch screen”.

Dave Lee’s tests show it lasts 12 hours and 54 minutes in a Wi-Fi Reddit browsing test, outlasting the iPhone 16’s 11 hours and 17 minutes. When playing Pokémon Unite on LTE, the iPhone 16e lasted 3 hours and 39 minutes, compared to the iPhone 16’s 3 hours and 7 minutes. In a Netflix streaming test on LTE, the iPhone 16e lasted 19 hours and 17 minutes, while the iPhone 16 drained in 15 hours and 43 minutes.
iPhone 16 Series Battery Size –
iPhone 16e – 3,961mAh
iPhone 16 – 3,561 mAh
iPhone 16 Plus – 4,674 mAh
iPhone 16 Pro – 3,582 mAh
iPhone 16 Pro Max – 4,685 mAh
Engadget too praised the device, stating it “had no problem lasting well longer than 24 hours,” while MKBHD called it “a really good battery.”
iPhone 16e – What Reviewers Have To Say?
The iPhone 16e performs well in its price range, even though its GPU has one less core than the A18 chip found in the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus. However, CNET noted that benchmark tests reveal a noticeable gap in GPU performance, putting it on par with the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus.
CNET says, “In everyday use, the phone had no issues playing video games, editing and saving videos and using Apple Intelligence. In the benchmark test for the CPU, the iPhone 16E scored higher than the iPhone 16, iPhone 15 and iPhone SE.”
The C1 chip, Apple’s first in-house 5G modem, also received mixed feedback. Reviews say it “seems fine” and performs similarly to Qualcomm’s modems in other iPhone 16 models. Apple claims it uses less power, helping with battery life.
The Verge says, “Every time I thought the iPhone 16 was faring better with video call quality or upload speeds, I’d try the same test again and the 16E would come out ahead. If I were none the wiser, I wouldn’t have given the modem a second thought as I used the phone. Given the difficulty Apple seemingly encountered building this thing and the complexity of a cellular modem, “it seems fine” is actually a great outcome for the C1.”
Revealing a similar experience, the CNET reviewer also revealed, “I ran tests side by side with an iPhone 16 Pro Max that was also on AT&T using the Speed Test app by Ookla. […] And while the 16 Pro Max had faster download speeds, the16E’s results were still good. In fact, its upload speeds beat the 16 Pro Max, which means selfies and videos post quickly to Instagram and TikTok, while video calls look and sound good without any freezes.”
The iPhone 16e has a single 48MP rear camera, the same resolution as the iPhone 16 but with a smaller sensor. MKBHD pointed out that this results in “way less shallow depth of field” and reduced sharpness in low-light conditions. This makes the phone rely more on Night Mode for darker scenes.
Despite the compromises, The Verge stated that “most people will be perfectly happy” with the iPhone 16e’s camera as it still takes good photos and videos in most cases.
While battery life and performance are strong points, the iPhone 16e has two notable drawbacks. The lack of MagSafe support could be disappointing for users upgrading from an iPhone 12 or newer, as it removes access to MagSafe accessories and faster wireless charging options.
Moreover, the phone sticks to older Qi wireless charging technology, which is slower and generates more heat compared to the MagSafe-supported iPhones.
