Meta has been innovating in both hardware and social media spaces in recent years. A new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reveals Meta’s ambitious plans for augmented reality (AR) glasses. According to sources cited by Gurman, Meta is working on at least three new smart glasses models and progressing toward its first true AR glasses, which could arrive as early as 2027.

Here’s what’s in the pipeline.

Supernova and Supernova 2 – Meta’s existing smart glasses made in partnership with Ray-Ban, will expand to new markets. The Supernova 2 will be inspired by Oakley’s Sphaera glasses and target cyclists and athletes with a central camera design. Brands like Luxottica Group will also apply Meta’s tech.

Key details about the program are as follows –

Eligibility – Open to US adults with a presence on third-party apps who create a professional account on Instagram and a Facebook page.

Requirements – Creators must post:

20 Reels on Facebook and 10 Reels on Instagram natively within each app every 30 days.
Content on at least 10 separate days during each 30-day bonus period.

Earnings: Payments capped at $5,000 over 90 days will depend on Meta’s evaluation of a creator’s social presence.

The program also encourages creators to use Facebook more heavily by requiring twice as many Reels on Facebook as Instagram signalling Meta’s push for original content on the platform.

The tech giant is also offering additional incentives including –

Netflix has announced another price hike for its streaming plans. Subscribers will now have to pay more for all three tiers with the cheapest plan now costing $7.99 per month and the Premium 4K plan priced at $24.99 per month.

Here’s everything you need to know about the price hike.

Standard with Ads: $7.99/month (up from $6.99)
Standard without Ads: $17.99/month (up from $15.49)

These changes affect subscribers in the United States, Canada, Portugal and Argentina.

Netflix explained in a letter to shareholders that the price hike will help fund its programming and investments in content. The company wrote, “As we continue to invest in programming and deliver more value for our members, we will occasionally ask our members to pay a little more so that we can re-invest to further improve Netflix. To that end, we are adjusting prices today across most plans in the US, Canada, Portugal and Argentina.”

On the same day it announced the price increase, Netflix reported impressive Q4 2024 earnings:

9 million new subscribers (beating the forecast of 9.6 million) bringing the total to 302 million paid subscribers globally.

The current price hike comes a year after Netflix’s last increase in October 2023, when the Premium plan rose from $19.99 to $22.99. Around the same time, Netflix also discontinued its ad-free Basic plan, raising the starting price for ad-free streaming to $15.49, and now to $17.99.

This hub was introduced in 2020 and it allows users to manage their connected experiences across Facebook, Instagram and Meta Quest accounts.

With this integration, users will be able to do the following –

Cross-post WhatsApp Status updates as Stories on Instagram and Facebook eliminating the need to post multiple times.
Log in to multiple apps using a single account with the “Single Sign-On” feature, which lets you use your Facebook account to log into Instagram, for example.
