Meta has been innovating in both hardware and social media spaces in recent years. A new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reveals Meta’s ambitious plans for augmented reality (AR) glasses. According to sources cited by Gurman, Meta is working on at least three new smart glasses models and progressing toward its first true AR glasses, which could arrive as early as 2027.

Here’s what’s in the pipeline.

  • Supernova and Supernova 2 – Meta’s existing smart glasses made in partnership with Ray-Ban, will expand to new markets. The Supernova 2 will be inspired by Oakley’s Sphaera glasses and target cyclists and athletes with a central camera design. Brands like Luxottica Group will also apply Meta’s tech.
  • Hypernova – This advanced model will offer simple software apps, notifications, and photo displays, moving closer to a full AR experience. Expected to cost around $1,000, it highlights Meta’s push toward premium features.
  • Artemis (2027) – Meta plans to release its first true AR glasses under the codename Artemis. These glasses will be lighter and more advanced than the earlier Orion prototype, which is not expected to see a commercial release.

Other hardware developments include:

  • Wrist Controllers – Meta is exploring a wrist strap to control smart glasses, a shift from the current temple-based controls.
  • Camerabuds – Meta continues to develop earbuds with cameras to rival Apple’s AirPods, although these remain in early stages due to development challenges.

Meanwhile, Meta is ramping up its efforts to draw creators from TikTok launching a new “breakthrough bonus program”. According to media reports, the initiative offers up to $5,000 to eligible creators who post original content on Facebook and Instagram.

Eligibility – Open to US adults with a presence on third-party apps who create a professional account on Instagram and a Facebook page.

Requirements – Creators must post:

  • 20 Reels on Facebook and 10 Reels on Instagram natively within each app every 30 days.
  • Content on at least 10 separate days during each 30-day bonus period.

Earnings: Payments capped at $5,000 over 90 days will depend on Meta’s evaluation of a creator’s social presence.

The program also encourages creators to use Facebook more heavily by requiring twice as many Reels on Facebook as Instagram signalling Meta’s push for original content on the platform.

The tech giant is also offering additional incentives including –

  • A free one-year trial subscription to Meta Verified, which includes a blue check and impersonation protection.

It promises to improve how images and videos appear on the screen taking full advantage of the hardware.

iPhone 17 Air Leak Reveals Bold ‘Camera Bar’ Design

0

Highlights

  • The iPhone 17 Air is expected to feature a new camera bar design on the back.
  • Leaked images show a single lens and repositioned flash.
  • Reports suggest the iPhone 17 Air could be Apple’s thinnest iPhone yet measuring just 5.5mm.
  • The device is rumoured to include a single 48MP rear camera.

Apple’s rumoured iPhone 17 Air continues to make headlines and the latest leak gives us more material to speculate about its design. This new model is expected to replace the “Plus” variant in the iPhone 17 lineup and might feature a new camera bar design on the back. Here’s what we know so far.

Popular Leaker Majin Bu recently shared an image of what’s claimed to be the rear design of the iPhone 17 Air. The image was originally sourced from Weibo and highlights the rumoured camera bar. While Majin Bu’s track record with Apple leaks is mixed, other CAD drawings from more reliable sources appear to confirm this design choice.

image
Alleged rear design of the upcoming iPhone 17 Air. (Image credit – Majin Bu on X)

The camera setup seems to keep the single lens in the same position as current iPhones, but with the flash now positioned on the opposite side of the camera bar. Despite earlier reports suggesting a centred camera design, this hasn’t been backed by newer leaks.

iPhone 17 Air – Thinnest iPhone Yet?

One of the most intriguing rumours is how thin the iPhone 17 Air might be. Reports suggest it could measure just 5.5mm at its thinnest point, making it Apple’s slimmest iPhone to date.

For context, here’s a quick look at the thickness of recently released iPhones –

  • iPhone 16 and 16 Plus: 7.80mm
  • iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max: 8.25mm

While some reports mention the iPhone 17 Air being as thick as 6.25mm, it’s clear this device will break records for thinness, surpassing even the iPhone 6’s 6.9mm profile. However, the new camera bar could make the top portion slightly thicker to accommodate the hardware.

iPhone 17 Air – Camera Changes

The iPhone 17 Air is expected to include a single 48MP rear camera, a notable change from the dual cameras on the iPhone 16 and the triple-lens setup on Pro models. This could be a major shift in Apple’s approach to non-Pro models.

With Apple’s official announcement still eight months away, we still do not have any reliable reports on the iPhone 17 Air’s design. Apple is likely testing multiple prototypes, which means the final look could differ from these early leaks.

For now, the rumoured camera bar and ultra-slim body have given fans plenty to discuss about what Apple could be working on.

FAQs

Q1. What is the new design feature of the iPhone 17 Air?

Answer. The iPhone 17 Air is expected to feature a new camera bar design on the back, with a single lens and repositioned flash.

Q2. How thin is the iPhone 17 Air rumoured to be?

Answer. Reports suggest the iPhone 17 Air could measure just 5.5mm at its thinnest point, making it Apple’s slimmest iPhone to date.

Q3. What changes are expected in the iPhone 17 Air’s camera setup?

Answer. The iPhone 17 Air is expected to include a single 48MP rear camera, a departure from the dual cameras on the iPhone 16 and the triple-lens setup on Pro models.
