Since launching in July 2023, Threads has steadily gained new features aimed at improving engagement and usability. The platform has been working to leverage artificial intelligence to enhance content personalisation and give users more control over their Threads feed experience. For this, Threads is rolling out a new AI-powered feature called “Dear Algo.” Here’s more on what we know about this for now.

How ‘Dear Algo’ Works on Threads?

The tool is designed to give users more influence over the type of content they see in their feed, making the platform more personalised and responsive to individual preferences. Currently, the Dear Algo feature is available in select markets with Meta expected to expand access to additional regions in the near future.

In an official newsroom announcement, Meta revealed that the Dear Algo feature allows users to directly tell Threads what kind of content matters most to them at any given time.

In the post, Meta wrote, “Threads is where you go to keep up with what’s happening right now. But sometimes, what matters to you changes in an instant, and you want your Threads feed to reflect that — whether it’s seeing more posts during a live NBA game or less about a TV show you haven’t caught up on yet. Today, we’re rolling out Dear Algo on Threads, an AI-powered feature that gives you more control over what you see by letting you tell Threads what’s important to you in the moment.”

image

To activate the feature, users need to create a public post starting with the phrase “Dear Algo,” followed by a specific request. For example, someone interested in podcast-related content can write, “Dear algo, show me more posts about podcasts.”

Once submitted, the system adjusts the user’s feed preferences accordingly.

Meta says that when a request is made, Dear Algo modifies the user’s feed for the next three days. Users also have the option to repost another person’s Dear Algo request, which will apply similar content preferences to their own feed.

According to the company, the feature was introduced to make “Threads feel more personal” and to enhance user control over the content discovery experience.

Availability and Future Expansion

At present, the Dear Algo feature is live in the United States, New Zealand, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Meta has indicated that it is considering rolling out the feature to additional regions soon.

FAQs

Q1. What is the purpose of the Dear Algo feature on Threads?

Answer. Dear Algo lets users personalise their feed by directly requesting the type of content they want to see, making Threads more responsive to individual preferences.

Q2. How do users activate the Dear Algo feature?

Answer. Users create a public post starting with “Dear Algo” followed by a specific request (e.g., “Dear Algo, show me more posts about podcasts”). The feed then adjusts for three days.

Q3. Where is the Dear Algo feature currently available?

Answer. The feature is live in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand, with Meta planning expansion to more regions soon.

Xiaomi 18 May Skip Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro Chip Over Pricing Concerns, Leak Suggests

0

Highlights

  • A leak suggests Xiaomi 18 may skip Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro in the standard model due to high costs, reserving it for Pro/Max variants.
  • Xiaomi 18 Pro is rumoured to feature dual 200MP sensors, one primary and one telephoto/periscope.
  • Qualcomm is expected to unveil the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series in September.

Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship series is already drawing attention ahead of its expected debut in the second half of the year. A recent leak from China now indicates that Xiaomi could differentiate the Xiaomi 18 series more clearly by assigning different processors to the standard and Pro models. Here’s what we know so far.

Standard Xiaomi 18 Could Miss Out on Pro Chipset

As per a Weibo post and related comments by tipster Digital Chat Station, the base Xiaomi 18 is likely to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset instead of the higher-end Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro variant. The reported reason behind this move is cost.

image

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro is said to carry a substantially higher price tag. Including it in the standard Xiaomi 18 could significantly increase the phone’s price. To avoid this, Xiaomi is reportedly planning to reserve the premium Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chip for its higher-tier offerings, which are expected to include the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max.

Qualcomm is rumoured to unveil the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series in September. Xiaomi’s 18 lineup is expected to launch soon after the chipset announcement.

For context, the current Xiaomi 17 lineup including the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, and Xiaomi 17 Ultra is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. Qualcomm did not release a “Pro” version of that chip, meaning all variants in the Xiaomi 17 family use the same SoC.

If the new leak proves accurate, the Xiaomi 18 series could mark a shift in strategy with more pronounced performance differences between the standard and Pro models.

Xiaomi 18 Pro May Feature Dual 200MP Cameras

image

In a previous claim, the same tipster revealed that Xiaomi is testing two 200-megapixel camera sensors for a compact 6.3-inch flagship device, widely believed to be the Xiaomi 18 Pro. One of these sensors could serve as the primary camera, while the other may function as a telephoto or periscope lens.

If this setup materialises, Xiaomi could join Oppo as one of the Chinese smartphone brands adopting dual 200-megapixel sensors in its flagship devices.

While these details remain unofficial, they suggest that Xiaomi’s 2026 flagship lineup may focus on balancing cost, performance, and premium features across the Xiaomi 18 series.

FAQs

Q1. Why might the standard Xiaomi 18 skip the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chip?

Answer. The Pro chip carries a much higher price, and including it in the base model could raise costs significantly. Xiaomi plans to reserve it for Pro and Pro Max variants.

Q2. What chipset is the standard Xiaomi 18 expected to use?

Answer. It is likely to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, while the Pro and Pro Max models may feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro.

Q3. What camera setup is rumoured for the Xiaomi 18 Pro?

Answer. The Xiaomi 18 Pro may include dual 200MP sensors, one as the primary camera and the other as a telephoto or periscope lens.

Apple has officially released iOS 26.3 for iPhone, marking the third major update to its latest mobile operating system that originally debuted in September. The Cupertino-based company had been testing the update through developer and public beta programs in recent weeks before making it available to users.

Alongside iOS 26.3, Apple has also rolled out watchOS 26.3 for Apple Watch, tvOS 26.3 for Apple TV, and visionOS 26.3 for Vision Pro.

iOS 26.3 – What’s New?

According to Apple’s release notes, iOS 26.3 introduces a new and more streamlined way for users to switch from Android to iPhone. The updated migration process allows users to transfer data without downloading additional apps from Apple or Google.

image

The transfer tool supports moving apps, messages, notes, passwords, phone numbers, photos, and more. However, a Macrumors report suggests that the process may not be as seamless as it sounds, which could explain why Apple has not widely promoted the feature.

The iOS 26.3 update also brings enhancements to the Apple Music app. The Favourite Songs playlist now appears in the Top Picks section on the app’s home screen. Additionally, users can download lyrics for tracks and access them offline without requiring an active internet connection.

Beyond these additions, iOS 26.3 addresses multiple bugs reported in earlier versions of the operating system, focusing on improving stability and performance.

How to Install iOS 26.3 on Your iPhone?

Apple says that all eligible iPhone models enrolled in the beta program and running the iOS 26.3 beta can now download the stable version. The update is currently available for iPhone 11 and later models.

To install iOS 26.3 on your iPhone –

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Navigate to General > Software Update.
  • Your device will automatically check for available updates.
  • Tap Download & Install, then review and accept the terms and conditions.

Wait for the update to complete. Your iPhone may restart multiple times during the installation process.

watchOS 26.3, tvOS 26.3, and visionOS 26.3 Also Released

image

Apple has simultaneously released watchOS 26.3, tvOS 26.3, and visionOS 26.3 as part of its broader software refresh.

According to Apple’s official release notes, watchOS 26.3 “This update includes improvements and bug fixes for your Apple Watch.” Similarly, tvOS 26.3 and HomePod 26.3 updates state, “This update includes performance and stability improvements.”

These updates are largely centred on performance enhancements and bug fixes rather than introducing major new features. This approach aligns with Apple’s typical update cycle, where early point releases focus on refining the experience.

More substantial additions are expected with the upcoming iOS 26.4 update, which is rumoured to include long-awaited AI upgrades for Siri.

While the 26.3 updates appear to prioritise stability, it remains possible that minor new features exist but went unnoticed during beta testing. Apple’s release notes often omit smaller tweaks and refinements.

Apple’s highly anticipated next-generation Siri upgrade has reportedly been delayed once again. The company first introduced its vision for an advanced, AI-powered Siri alongside Apple Intelligence in 2024. But, nearly a year and a half later, the revamped digital assistant has yet to arrive. A new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests users may need to wait even longer.

Siri Update May Roll Out in Phases

The upgraded Siri was initially expected to debut with the iOS 26.4 update in March. However, latest report indicates that Apple is now planning a staggered release. Some features may be pushed to a May update, while others could be delayed until the launch of iOS 27 in September.

The postponement is said to stem from issues uncovered during internal testing, forcing Apple to revise its launch timeline.

The upcoming changes are expected to transform Siri into a more advanced AI assistant, similar to large language model (LLM) chatbots that currently dominate the tech landscape. Instead of opening apps like ChatGPT or Claude on an iPhone or MacBook, users would be able to interact directly with Siri. The assistant is reportedly set to be powered by Google Gemini technology.

According to Mark Gurman, internal testing revealed multiple problems such as slow response times, misinterpreted queries and a bug that cuts off users who speak quickly, among others. Gurman also reveals that Siri is occasionally defaulting to ChatGPT instead of Apple’s in-house technology. There is also reported delays in advanced app commands (app intents), which enable tasks such as finding, editing, and sending an image through a single voice command.

Moreover, experimental features like web search and custom image generation are currently being tested in iOS 26.5 but have not yet been finalised.

The update is reportedly built on Apple’s new Linwood architecture. It leverages Apple Foundation Models while incorporating Google Gemini technology to enhance performance and capabilities.

Focus on Privacy and Infrastructure

Apple CEO Tim Cook has previously confirmed that the company is developing AI-focused data centre chips to support future AI features. Meanwhile, Craig Federighi has reiterated that personalised AI functionality will prioritise privacy.

According to him, data will remain on-device or on privacy-protecting servers, rather than being logged or used for training purposes. Where necessary, Apple plans to rely on licensed or synthetic data.

iOS 27 – What to Expect?

Looking further ahead, Apple is said to be preparing a major software overhaul under the “Campo” project, covering iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27.

The next-generation Siri under this initiative is expected to operate more like a chatbot and will be deeply integrated across the operating system. It is also expected to rely on custom AI servers powered by Google Gemini technology.

In addition, Siri is expected to work more seamlessly with Apple apps such as Mail, Calendar, and Safari, enabling broader system-wide controls.

Apple’s goal appears to be delivering a more personalised and capable AI assistant while maintaining strict privacy standards. If successful, the revamped Siri could set a new benchmark for device-level artificial intelligence. As of now, users will have to wait a bit longer.

FAQs

Q1. Why has Apple delayed the rollout of its next-generation Siri?

Answer. Internal testing revealed issues such as slow response times, misinterpreted queries, and bugs that cut off users who speak quickly, forcing Apple to revise its timeline.

Q2. When will the upgraded Siri features be released?

Answer. Apple plans a staggered rollout with some features arriving in May with iOS 26.5, while others are delayed until iOS 27 in September.

Q3. What new capabilities will the next-gen Siri offer?

Answer. Siri will operate more like a chatbot, integrate deeply across iOS, securely access personal data, and leverage Apple Foundation Models with Google Gemini technology.

Upcoming Foldable iPhone Could Push Book-Style Foldables to Dominate Market in 2026, Says Counterpoint

0

Highlights

  • Counterpoint Research forecasts book-style foldables will dominate the global market with 65% share in 2026.
  • Larger foldables attract manufacturers with higher average selling prices and appeal to consumers with premium features, multitasking capabilities, and bigger displays.
  • The anticipated foldable iPhone, expected to adopt a book-style design, could accelerate adoption and reshape the foldable smartphone landscape.

The global foldable smartphone market could see a major shift in 2026 as book-style foldables are projected to dominate for the first time. According to a recent Counterpoint Research report, larger foldable phones are expected to account for the majority of foldable shipments this year, a change that comes ahead of Apple’s anticipated entry into the foldable segment.

Book-style foldables, also referred to as passport-style devices, feature larger displays that open like a book. In contrast, clamshell foldables are often called flip phones and fold vertically into a more compact form.

Book-Style Foldables to Capture 65% Market Share in 2026

image

Counterpoint’s 2026 forecast suggests that book-style foldables will account for 65% of total global foldable smartphone shipments. This marks a notable increase from 2025, when book-style devices represented 52% of shipments.

The research firm points to advantages on both the supply and demand sides. Larger foldables typically command higher average selling prices (ASPs), making them more attractive to manufacturers. At the same time, they offer a more premium feel and enable productivity-focused use cases that standard smartphones cannot match, making them appealing to consumers seeking advanced multitasking and larger screens.

“The next phase of foldable market expansion will be driven less by novelty and more by clarity of use case and value,” said Associate Director Liz Lee. “As book-type foldables gain traction, differentiation will increasingly depend on software experience and ecosystem readiness. In this context, Apple’s expected entry reinforces the industry-wide convergence toward book-type foldables across OEM strategies and ecosystems.”

Counterpoint also links this expected transition to ongoing smartphone memory supply constraints. As memory shortages increasingly impact low and mid-range devices, smartphone brands are shifting their focus toward higher-margin premium models.

“As memory supply tightness becomes increasingly concentrated in components used for low- to mid-range smartphones, concerns around the broader mass-market outlook are growing, said Tarun Pathak, research director at Counterpoint, in the press release. “Against this backdrop, OEMs are placing greater emphasis on higher-value devices, prioritising profitability over volume. Book-type foldables are well-positioned in this shift, as their premium specifications and higher memory configurations support ASP (average selling price) expansion while aligning with value-led growth strategies.”

Market Trends Show Gradual Rise of Larger Foldables

Samsung led global foldable smartphone shipments last year, reclaiming the top position after Huawei briefly overtook it in 2024. Before that, Samsung had maintained leadership for four consecutive years.

In the early days of foldable phones, clamshell devices were more dominant. Book-style foldables accounted for 35% of the market in 2020 and 39% in 2021. Their share rose to 47% in 2022 and hovered around half of total shipments in subsequent years. Specifically, book-style models represented 47% of the market in 2023, 51% in 2024, and 52% in 2025, reflecting steady growth.

Samsung’s recent sales performance may already hint at the upcoming shift. Counterpoint Research notes that in the second half of 2025, Samsung sold more Galaxy Z Fold 7 units than Galaxy Z Flip 7 units. This trend could serve as an early indicator of changing consumer preferences in the broader foldable market.

Apple’s Foldable iPhone Could Accelerate Adoption

Apple’s rumoured foldable iPhone is widely expected to adopt a book-style design. The report suggests that such a device could “accelerate broader market adoption” of large-format foldables. Apple’s entry into the segment is seen as a potentially transformative moment for the industry.

For now, these insights remain projections. The actual market outcome will depend on real-world sales performance in 2026. However, if current trends hold and Apple joins the fray with a book-style foldable iPhone, the foldable smartphone landscape could look very different in the coming year.

FAQs

Q1. What type of foldable smartphones are expected to dominate the market in 2026?

Answer. Book-style foldables are projected to capture 65% of global foldable smartphone shipments in 2026, overtaking clamshell designs.

Q2. Why are book-style foldables gaining popularity over clamshell models?

There is still some time before we will know something officially about the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models. But that has never stopped the rumour mill from churning out updates on future iPhones. While a lot has been tipped so far, a new report suggests Apple could keep their prices in line with last year’s models. Here’s more on that.

iPhone 18 Pro Pricing Could Be Same As Current iPhone Lineup

The latest word is according to a research note by Jeff Pu of Haitong International Tech Research, as seen and reported by MacRumors. It appears Apple is planning to introduce the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max at the same starting prices as the iPhone 17 Pro lineup.

The market research firm’s supply chain findings indicate that Apple is prioritising “cost management” to ensure that the base pricing of the iPhone 18 Pro models remains either “unchanged” or at a “similar level” compared to their predecessors.

In the US, the iPhone 17 Pro starts at $1,099 (roughly Rs. 99,000), while the iPhone 17 Pro Max carries a starting price of $1,199 (roughly Rs. 1,08,000). In India, the base variants of the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are priced at Rs. 1,34,900 and Rs. 1,49,900, respectively.

If Pu’s projections are accurate, the iPhone 18 Pro series could launch at similar price points in both markets.

Apple Negotiating Memory Deals Amid Rising Costs

The report further claims that Apple has been in discussions with Samsung and SK Hynix to secure relatively “favourable” deals for memory chips, as DRAM and NAND storage costs continue to rise. Pu also believes the company will explore additional ways to cut expenses on key components including display panels and camera modules.

Pu’s assessment aligns with earlier comments from TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo had previously indicated that Apple would try to avoid increasing iPhone 18 prices as much as possible.

Flagship Smartphone Tipped to Debut 100MP Selfie Camera and Dual 200MP Rear Sensors

0

Highlights

  • A major brand is reportedly experimenting with a 100‑megapixel front sensor.
  • The device could feature two 200‑megapixel rear cameras, aimed at preserving detail across focal lengths and reducing reliance on digital cropping.

Smartphones are really pushing boundaries when it comes to camera sensors and photography capabilities. You might think we have seen it all, but it appears brands are working some major shake for front sensors. A new leak suggests that a major manufacturer could be testing an ambitious camera setup for its next flagship smartphone.

100MP Selfie Camera Could Set a New Benchmark?

According to the well-known tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, an upcoming flagship handset may feature a 100-megapixel selfie camera. If true, this would make it one of the highest-resolution front cameras ever seen on a mainstream smartphone.

The report suggests that the device could use a custom small-pixel sensor for the front camera. Typically, high-resolution selfie cameras are paired with pixel-binning technology. This allows the sensor to merge multiple pixels into a single larger pixel, improving light capture and enhancing low-light performance while maintaining manageable sensor size constraints.

However, the tipster also cautions that the sensor is currently in early testing. As such, there remains a possibility that the hardware specifications could change before the final product launch.

Dual 200MP Rear Cameras in the Works

In addition to the 100MP selfie camera, the mystery flagship is said to feature two 200-megapixel rear sensors. While the exact roles of these cameras have not been detailed, a dual 200MP configuration could theoretically help preserve high levels of detail across different focal lengths. This approach would reduce reliance on digital cropping and potentially deliver sharper results in both standard and zoom photography.

The leak does not mention the presence of additional rear cameras. That said, Ultra-branded flagship smartphones typically include at least one ultrawide sensor to round out the camera system.

Oppo or Xiaomi Behind the Device?

Although the tipster did not directly name the brand behind the device, comments on the Weibo post suggest that it could be an Oppo smartphone.

Interestingly, another recent report mentioned that two 200-megapixel camera sensors are being tested for use in a compact 6.3-inch flagship device. While the handset was not explicitly identified, it is widely believed to be the Xiaomi 18 Pro.

So, in short, the identity of the flagship smartphone in discussion here remains unclear as of now. All we can say for now is that if these leaks prove accurate, the smartphone could set new standards in mobile photography.

Q1. What is the rumoured front camera specification of the upcoming flagship?

Answer. Leaks suggest the device may feature a 100‑megapixel selfie camera, potentially the highest-resolution front sensor on a mainstream smartphone, though it’s still in early testing.

Q2. What new rear camera setup is being tested?

Answer. The smartphone is tipped to include dual 200‑megapixel rear sensors, designed to preserve detail across focal lengths and deliver sharper results in both standard and zoom photography.

Q3. Which brands are speculated to be behind the 100mp selfie camera device?

Answer. While the brand hasn’t been confirmed, speculation points to Oppo or Xiaomi, with the Xiaomi 18 Pro also rumoured to test dual 200MP sensors in a compact flagship.
