In the post, Meta wrote, “Threads is where you go to keep up with what’s happening right now. But sometimes, what matters to you changes in an instant, and you want your Threads feed to reflect that — whether it’s seeing more posts during a live NBA game or less about a TV show you haven’t caught up on yet. Today, we’re rolling out Dear Algo on Threads, an AI-powered feature that gives you more control over what you see by letting you tell Threads what’s important to you in the moment.”
To activate the feature, users need to create a public post starting with the phrase “Dear Algo,” followed by a specific request. For example, someone interested in podcast-related content can write, “Dear algo, show me more posts about podcasts.”
Once submitted, the system adjusts the user’s feed preferences accordingly.
Meta says that when a request is made, Dear Algo modifies the user’s feed for the next three days. Users also have the option to repost another person’s Dear Algo request, which will apply similar content preferences to their own feed.
According to the company, the feature was introduced to make “Threads feel more personal” and to enhance user control over the content discovery experience.
