Oppo has launched the 4G-only variant of Oppo A5 Pro quietly in the Indonesian market. While it looks almost identical to the global model that was announced in February, the big difference is under the hood. Instead of the global variant’s Dimensity 6300, this version runs on the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 1 chipset. Here’s more about the recently unveiled device.

The Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 1 is a 4G-only chip with an X11 LTE modem. It has four Cortex-A73 and four Cortex-A53 cores, along with an Adreno 610 GPU, a setup that might feel familiar to fans of the Snapdragon 662/680.

In comparison, the Dimensity 6300 has newer Cortex-A76 + A55 cores and supports 5G, making the 4G model a slight downgrade in performance.

But if you prefer the 5G version, Oppo still offers the A5 Pro 5G with the Dimensity 6300 in Indonesia.

  • 8GB LPDDR4X RAM
  • 128GB or 256GB UFS 2.1 storage (expandable via microSD)
  • 67-inch LCD display, 90Hz refresh rate, 720p+ resolution, and 1,000 nits peak brightness
  • 50MP main camera with OIS + 2MP depth sensor
  • 8MP selfie camera (80° lens, 1080p @ 30fps)

The 4G model supports 4K video recording at 60fps, while the Dimensity 6300 in the 5G model is limited to 1080p @ 30fps, a win for the 4G version.

Powering the device is a 5,800mAh battery with 45W SuperVOOC fast charging. Oppo claims it can stream videos for 17 hours straight and retain 80% of its original capacity even after 4 years.

Beyond the chipset and other features, not much has changed but Oppo has kept durability as a big focus here. Oppo has used Gorilla Glass 7i and AGC DT-Star D+ glass for protection. The phone is also IP66, IP68, and IP69-rated, meaning it can handle hot water jets up to 80°C.

Moreover, it has military-grade shock resistance, thanks to an aluminium motherboard cover.

Apple recently replaced the iPhone SE lineup with the iPhone 16e, a more expensive option than any SE before it but still slightly cheaper than the standard iPhone 16. However, choosing the 16e means giving up an extra camera, some of the A18 chip’s advanced features and even colour variety since it’s only available in black and white.

But the question now stands, how does iPhone 16e hold up in terms of durability?

That’s where Zack from the YouTube Channel JerryRigEverything comes in with the classic durability test that many tech enthusiasts eagerly wait for whenever there is a new device on the shelves. Zack from JerryRigEverything recently released the video of putting the iPhone 16e through the signature scratch, burn and bend tests to see how tough it really is. Here’s everything we know from the video.

iPhone 16e – Durability Test

image
JerryRigEverythin’s iPhone 16e durability test video shows the inner workings of the iPhone 16e. (Image Credit – JerryRigEverythin on YouTube)

The screen scratches at level 6 on the Mohs hardness scale with deeper grooves appearing at level 7, standard for modern smartphones. The frame is aluminium, the buttons are metal and the speaker grilles have mesh to help prevent water from getting inside.

The back panel is glass, and when exposed to an open flame for about 20 seconds, the screen’s pixels turn white. However, after a reboot, the damage is barely noticeable.

iPhone 16e Bend Test

The most important test is the bend test and it proves that the iPhone 16e is solid. It doesn’t bend, no matter which side you press from.

Inside the iPhone 16e

Zack also opens up the device, revealing that the iPhone 16e doesn’t have MagSafe magnets like other iPhones. There’s also an entirely new battery removal process, which involves a 9V battery and alligator clips, an unusual method for replacing the battery.

The single 48MP camera inside the iPhone 16e comes with traditional optical image stabilization (OIS), unlike the sensor-shift stabilisation found in Apple’s pricier models.

Here’s the full iPhone 16e durability test by JerryRigEverything –

Overall, the iPhone 16e proves to be durable and sturdy with some unique internal design changes compared to other iPhones.

 FAQs

Nothing Phone (3a) Teardown Reveals Internal Design and Repair Challenges

0

Highlights

  • The Nothing Phone (3a) teardown video reveals the motherboard cover and improved heat dissipation with a larger copper vapour chamber.
  • Battery replacement is manageable with guided pull tabs, but screen repairs are complex and will require back-opening.
  • The Phone (3a) scores 4.5/10 for repairability and excelling in battery replacement but will face challenges in design organisation and screen replacement.

Nothing recently launched the Nothing Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro and now the Phone (3a) has gone through a full teardown. YouTube channel PBKReviews shared a detailed disassembly video titled “Nothing Phone 3a Teardown Disassembly Phone Repair Video Review.” Here’s everything we know from the video.

image
Nothing Phone (3a) teardown video shows inner workings. (Image credit – PBK Reviews on YouTube)

Like other Nothing phones, the Phone (3a) has a fake transparent design, achieved through a special layer under the glass back. The Glyph LED lights are actually part of the upper cover for the motherboard.

Inside, the main board houses the cameras, including the primary sensor, which features optical image stabilisation (OIS). To help with water resistance, the connectors on the main board have rubber gaskets, and the USB port on the sub-board has a similar protective gasket.

For heat dissipation, the phone uses thermal paste and a copper vapour chamber, which is noticeably larger than the one in last year’s Nothing Phone (2a).

The battery has two pull tabs and removing them in the correct order is important (they’re labelled 1 and 2 to guide the process). If you need to replace the screen, you’ll have to open the phone from the back and remove the battery first to access the display cable.

At the end of the teardown, PBKReviews gives the Nothing Phone (3a) a 4.5 out of 10 repairability score (with 10 being the easiest to repair and 1 being the hardest).

The highest score comes from battery replacement, which earns 1.5 out of 2 points. The lowest scores are in design (organisation and repair time) and screen replacement, both receiving just 0.5 out of 2 points. Parts availability and miscellaneous parts replacement get 1 point each out of 2.

Check out the full teardown video –

Overall, the teardown highlights that while some aspects like battery replacement are manageable, the Nothing Phone (3a) isn’t the easiest device to repair especially when it comes to screen repairs.

FAQs

Google is expected to officially launch the Pixel 9a later this week, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get some first-hand information on the phone. In recent news, a full unboxing video has surfaced on YouTube before launch revealing everything inside the box and confirming certain key aspects of the phone. It appears Pixel 9a comes with a downgraded modem compared to the rest of the Pixel 9 series. Here’s what we know.

Pixel 9a Early Unboxing Video

YouTuber Sahil Karoul managed to get an early unit in Dubai specifically the “Iris” purple variant and shared a full unboxing video on their channel. As expected, Google is sticking with its usual packaging style, which means you won’t find much in the box.

The package includes a SIM ejector tool, a USB-C cable and some documentation. The video also highlights the matte finish of the “Iris” colour, which extends to both the back panel and the side rails of the device.

One of the biggest takeaways from the video is that the Pixel 9a runs on Google’s Tensor G4 chip, paired with 8GB of RAM. However, it also seems to confirm the rumours about a lesser modem. The baseband version displayed in the video starts with “g5300,” pointing to the use of an Exynos 5300 modem.

In comparison, the rest of the Pixel 9 series features basebands starting with “g5400,” which indicates the newer Exynos 5400 modem. This suggests that the Pixel 9a’s modem performance will be closer to the Pixel 8 series rather than the latest Pixel 9 models.

The video also includes benchmark scores from AnTuTu and GeekBench, along with gameplay tests in PUBG Mobile.

Check out Sahil Karoul’s video –

While Sahil Karoul’s video is in Hindi, it is not the only early review and unboxing video you would be able to find online. Another early Pixel 9a review from The Mobile Central (via Android Police) is also out online providing a closer look at the Pixel 9a in English.

Here’s The Mobile Central’s early review –

Pixel 9a Already on Sale Before Launch

If you’re eager to get your hands on the Pixel 9a, you might not have to wait for Google’s official launch. The phone has already appeared for sale in some regions.

Caption – Google Pixel 9a is now available for Sale in Dubai before launch.

Leaker Roland Quandt spotted that the Pixel 9a is already being sold in Dubai. A listing on a regional classifieds site shows the 128GB variant priced at AED 2,350 (approx $640 or INR 55,506). Since this is likely a reseller capitalising on early demand, the official retail price in markets like the US could be lower and more in line with previous Pixel A-series models.

Google is expected to officially announce the Pixel 9a later this week with rumours suggesting a March 19 launch.

FAQs

Q1. What hardware features does the Pixel 9a have?

Answer. The Pixel 9a includes Google’s Tensor G4 chip, 8GB of RAM, and uses a downgraded Exynos 5300 modem compared to the rest of the Pixel 9 series.

Q2. What comes in the Pixel 9a box?

Answer. The packaging contains a SIM ejector tool, a USB-C cable, and some documentation, with no additional accessories included.

Q3. When and where did the Pixel 9a appear for sale before its official launch?

Answer. The Pixel 9a was spotted for sale in Dubai, priced at AED 2,350 (~$640), ahead of its expected March 19 official announcement.

Apple and Google May Bring Blue Chat Bubbles to Android Users in India

Highlights

  • Apple is considering integrating RCS messaging in India via Google’s partnerships with Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio.
  • Bharti Airtel hesitates to adopt RCS due to spam concerns seeking the use of proprietary spam detection tools and regulatory oversight.
  • RCS offers features like typing indicators, read receipts, Wi-Fi messaging and HD media sharing.

Apple is reportedly in talks with Google to bring Rich Communication Services (RCS) messaging support to India. According to The Economic Times, this partnership could allow Apple’s iMessage to work with RCS protocols, improving the way iPhone and Android users communicate.

Apple has already rolled out peer-to-peer (P2P) RCS messaging in eight countries, including the US, Canada, Germany, Spain, France, the UK, Belgium and China.

In these regions (except China), Apple’s iMessage relies on Google’s backend servers, which are part of local carrier networks. The report suggests Apple might follow the same approach in India, integrating RCS through Google’s partnerships with Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio.

However, Bharti Airtel is holding back. The telecom giant has concerns about spam and does not want to integrate RCS with Google unless it can use its proprietary spam detection tools.

An Airtel executive told The Economic Times, “Until Google allows Airtel to identify spam messages using its proprietary tool, RCS will not be onboarded… since Google RCS is an OTT (over-the-top) service, it bypasses the Airtel intelligent solution much as all OTT services do.”

Airtel has also asked telecom regulators to bring OTT messaging apps under anti-spam regulations.

What Is RCS Messaging?

Rich Communication Services (RCS) is an upgraded messaging standard developed by the GSM Association (GSMA). Unlike traditional messaging services such as SMS and MMS, RCS works over the Internet and offers a richer messaging experience.

Key Features of RCS include typing indicators to see when someone is typing, read receipts to know when your message has been read, Wi-Fi & mobile data messaging with no SMS charges and High-resolution media sharing for sending HD images, videos and files.

If Apple adopts RCS in India, it could bridge the gap between iPhone and Android messaging, making cross-platform chats smoother and more seamless.

FAQs

Q1. What is Apple reportedly planning with RCS messaging in India?

Answer. Apple is in talks with Google to integrate RCS messaging in India through partnerships with Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio, enhancing cross-platform communication.

Q2. Why is Bharti Airtel hesitant about adopting RCS?

Answer. Airtel has concerns about spam and wants to use its proprietary spam detection tools. It is also urging telecom regulators to include OTT messaging apps under anti-spam regulations.

Q3. What features does RCS messaging offer?

Answer. RCS provides features like typing indicators, read receipts, Wi-Fi and mobile data messaging, and high-resolution media sharing for an enriched chat experience.

The Nintendo Switch has been a massive success and its affordable $299 launch price is often credited as one of the major reasons for the success. Compared to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, it is one of the more reasonably priced gaming consoles. However, it seems that industry analysts think the Nintendo Switch 2 might not turn out to be that budget-friendly. Here’s what we know.

Analysts Predict a Higher Price Tag For Nintendo Switch 2

A Bloomberg report reveals that multiple industry analysts believe the Switch 2 will be more expensive than the original.

Hideki Yasuda (Toyo Securities) estimates that the new NVIDIA chip inside the Switch 2 will cost $130-$150 per unit, compared to $80 for the original Switch’s chip. Because of this, Yasuda predicts a $499 price tag for the new console.

Other analysts including Serkan Toto Yijia Zhai (UBS) and Robin Zhu (Sanford C. Bernstein) think Nintendo will aim a bit lower, predicting a $399 price point. However, they note that external factors like U.S. tariffs could push the price higher.

Nintendo Switch 2 – Possible June Launch

Aside from pricing, Robin Zhu expects Nintendo to launch the Switch 2 in June, with a first-day inventory of 6 to 8 million units. If this holds true, it could make the biggest console launch ever.

For comparison, the original Switch sold 2.7 million units in its first month. Meanwhile, the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 each sold 4.5 million units in their first month.

Moreover, Hiroshi Yamashina (Macquarie Capital) predicts that Nintendo could sell 20 million units within the console’s first year.

A Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2, where the company is expected to reveal more details about the Switch 2. If pricing and launch details are announced, it will finally answer one of the biggest questions fans have about the upcoming console.
