Since WhatsApp uses end-to-end encryption (E2EE), translations happen locally on your phone and not on WhatsApp’s servers keeping your conversations private.

To use the translation feature, WhatsApp will prompt users to select and download language packs directly on their phone. Supported languages for now include Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese (Brazil), Hindi and Russian. Since the translations work offline, there’s no need for an internet connection once the language pack is downloaded.

Users can also choose how they want to use the feature. You can turn on automatic translations for all chats, or keep it off and translate individual messages by tapping a “Translate” option when needed. The feature is off by default and you can manage language packs or disable it entirely from the app’s settings.

WABetaInfo writes, “The translation feature is accessible from the chat info screen, where users can specify which language they want messages to be automatically translated from on a per-chat basis. This flexibility ensures that different chats can have different translation settings based on user needs. Further, feature tracker WABetaInfo notes that WhatsApp has been working on this feature since July 2024 and it’s now slowly rolling out to beta testers. There’s no word yet on a full public release, but this could be a game-changer for cross-language communication.

The Nieuwe Mobiel report has also released some renders of the upcoming Moto G86. Based on the images, we can say that the phone will be ditching the curved display and frame of its predecessor for a flat design.

The bezels look about the same as before and the buttons are still in the same spot along the flat edges.

The camera module now looks a lot like what we’ve seen on the pricier Moto Edge 60 and Edge 60 Fusion. It’s wider, with a similar lens layout. The back itself seems to use soft vegan leather, giving it a more premium look and feel. If this turns out to be true, it will be a nice touch for a mid-range phone.

There are some other small but interesting design tweaks too. In addition to the usual secondary mic hole on top and SIM slot on the left, there’s now an extra hole right under the power button, something that wasn’t there on the G85.

According to a post an official Weibo, the phone will sport a dual 50-megapixel rear camera system. The primary sensor is a 50MP Sony IMX906 with optical image stabilisation (OIS), promising top-tier image quality.
