  • Users cannot log in, upload, or view content; the app is absent from app stores, and ISPs continue to block the platform nationwide.

Amid growing chatter about TikTok’s possible return to India, government officials have clarified that the app is still banned in the country. According to an NDTV report, the clarification came after some users claimed they were able to access the video platform’s website.

“The government of India has not issued any unblocking order for TikTok. Any such statement or news is false and misleading,” sources stated.

Although the TikTok website briefly appeared accessible to certain users, logging in, uploading, or viewing videos remained impossible. Additionally, the TikTok mobile app is still missing from app stores in India.

Officials from the Department of Telecom confirmed that internet service providers continue to block TikTok’s website, making its partial visibility to some users unclear.

Interestingly, AliExpress, the e-commerce platform also banned in India, was reported to be working for users at the time this news was filed.

India-China Relations Context

The update comes as India and China take steps to repair ties strained since the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes. Earlier this week, both nations announced fresh initiatives for a “stable, cooperative and forward-looking” relationship, which include reopening border trade, boosting investments, resuming direct flights, and maintaining peace along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit China from August 31 to September 1 to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin, at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Why TikTok Was Banned?

TikTok, along with AliExpress and 57 other Chinese apps, was banned in June 2020 following the deadly clashes in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley. At the time, government sources alleged that these apps violated usage guidelines, posed serious privacy concerns, and were potentially acting as spyware or malware.

FAQs

Q1. Is TikTok unblocked in India?

Answer. No, TikTok is still banned in India. Government officials confirmed that no order has been issued to lift the ban, and reports of its return are false and misleading.

Q2. Why was TikTok banned in India?

Answer. TikTok, along with AliExpress and 57 other Chinese apps, was banned in June 2020 after the Galwan Valley clashes. The government cited violations of usage guidelines, privacy risks, and concerns that the apps could act as spyware or malware.

Q3. Can users currently access TikTok in India?

Answer. Some users reported that TikTok’s website briefly appeared accessible, but login, video uploads, and viewing remain blocked. The app is also unavailable on app stores, and internet service providers continue to restrict access.

Google is opening the doors to creativity this weekend by giving users free access to Veo 3, its most advanced AI-powered video generation platform. The announcement was made by CEO Sundar Pichai on X (formerly Twitter).  Pichai encouraged people to experiment with the tool’s filmmaking potential without the usual subscription cost.

Normally, Veo 3 is part of the AI Pro subscription on the Gemini app, priced at Rs 1,999 per month in India. While new subscribers typically get a one-month free trial, this marks the first time Google has removed all restrictions for every user, whether subscribed or not.

According to Pichai, the goal is to make creative opportunities available to a wider audience. At the same time, the move also serves as a smart marketing strategy by letting more users try Veo 3 firsthand.

Google is relying on the tool’s capabilities to showcase its value.

What is Veo 3?

Unveiled at Google I/O 2025, Veo 3 quickly gained global attention as the company’s most powerful video model yet. It is the first capable of generating both high-quality visuals and synchronised audio including dialogue, background music, footsteps, and ambient effects.

Google positions Veo 3 as a multi-purpose creative tool, ideal for crafting animated shorts, cinematic clips, storyboards, or even video game cutscenes. Currently, it works with text prompts, but support for image-based prompts is expected soon, further expanding its versatility.

Veo 3 for Indian Users

To ensure faster results, Google has launched Veo 3 Fast in India, an optimised version of the model designed for quicker video generation. It is accessible through the Google Gemini app on both Android and iOS platforms.

Why Veo 3 Stands Out?

While many AI tools dabble in video generation, Veo 3 brings three standout features:

  • Synchronised audio and visuals – Dialogue, music, and sound effects are generated in perfect sync.
  • Cinematic-quality output – Advanced lighting, detailed textures, and rich imagery deliver professional-grade results.
  • Realistic physics – From rippling water to natural shadows, Veo 3 ensures animations look fluid and lifelike.

The weekend-long free access is not only a chance for users to test Veo 3’s capabilities but also an opportunity for Google to collect valuable feedback. As Pichai highlighted, this step reflects Google’s ongoing commitment to expanding its creative ecosystem with user input likely influencing future updates.

For anyone who has dreamed of directing a short film without cameras, crew, or budget, this trial could be the perfect opportunity. As Google describes it, Veo 3 aims to “transform how users create and share media.”

FAQs

Q1. What is Veo 3 and why is it significant?

Answer. Veo 3 is Google’s most advanced AI video generation tool, capable of producing cinematic-quality visuals with synchronised audio including dialogue, music, and ambient effects. It stands out for its realistic physics and professional-grade output, making it ideal for short films, storyboards, and game cutscenes.

Q2. How can users in India access Veo 3 during the free trial?

Answer. Indian users can access Veo 3 Fast, an optimised version for quicker video generation, via the Google Gemini app on Android and iOS. This weekend, Google has removed all subscription barriers, allowing everyone to try it for free.

Q3. Why is Google offering Veo 3 for free this weekend?

Answer. Google aims to democratize creativity by letting more users experience Veo 3 without cost. It’s also a strategic move to showcase the tool’s capabilities and gather user feedback to improve future updates.

Google Pixel 10 Series Brings WhatsApp Satellite Calls, Limited Qi2 Wireless Charging Support

0

Highlights

  • Pixel 10 series introduces WhatsApp voice/video calls via satellite starting August 28 with carrier and outdoor-use limitations.
  • Only the Pixel 10 Pro XL supports Qi 2.2 with 25W charging, while other Pixel models use Qi 2.0.1.
  • All Pixel 10 models remain compatible with existing Qi chargers, ensuring consistent wireless charging across the lineup.

Google’s latest Pixel 10 series was unveiled two days ago, but new features are still being revealed. One of the most interesting updates comes through a partnership with WhatsApp. Here’s more on that.

Google Pixel 10 Series – WhatsApp Satellite Calls

Google Pixel 10 has partnered with WhatsApp to allow voice and video calls via satellite connectivity, launching first as an exclusive for Pixel devices.

The announcement was shared on X (formerly Twitter) through the official Made by Google handle, followed by a witty response from WhatsApp’s account. A teaser video shows a Pixel device receiving a WhatsApp call while in satellite mode.

From August 28, when the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL officially go on sale, WhatsApp will support Google’s satellite network for calls even in remote areas without traditional cellular coverage.

However, the fine print makes it clear that the feature will depend on participating carriers, may include extra charges, and will only work outdoors under an open sky. Google also notes that performance may be slower compared to standard mobile networks.

Google Pixel 10 Series Wireless Charging Details

Alongside satellite calling, Google has also confirmed the Qi2 wireless charging standard on the Pixel 10 lineup, though with some caveats. While the Pixel 10 Pro XL supports the latest Qi 2.2 standard with magnets and up to 25W charging speeds, the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold are limited to Qi 2.0.1, a version introduced back in 2023.

image

Caption – Pixel 10 Qi 2.0.1 standard confirmed. (Image credit – 9to5Google)

Qi2 was first introduced with the Magnetic Power Profile (MPP), offering improved alignment and efficiency. Later versions brought incremental upgrades:

  • Qi 2.0 – Introduced MPP with backwards compatibility
  • Qi 2.1 – Added support for magnetic cases and obstruction testing
  • Qi 2.2 – Increased charging capacity up to 25W with better power management

Interestingly, most Android phones skipped early Qi2 versions with Apple’s iPhones and Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series among the first major adopters. Google’s Pixel 10 series marks a more mainstream rollout of Qi2 with magnets, but only the Pro XL gets the faster charging capability.

For users, this difference may not matter much since all models still support 15W wireless charging and remain compatible with existing Qi chargers. Google explained to Android Central that the lack of 25W charging on the smaller models is due to heat management issues. Notably, the Qi 2.0.1 version is the same one Apple uses on its latest iPhones.

FAQs

Q1. Can I make WhatsApp calls via satellite on the Pixel 10?

Answer. Yes, the Pixel 10 series supports WhatsApp voice and video calls via satellite connectivity. This feature is exclusive to Pixel devices and works in remote areas without cellular coverage. However, it requires outdoor use under open sky, may incur extra charges, and depends on carrier participation.

Q2. Does the Pixel 10 support Qi2 wireless charging?

Answer. Partially. Only the Pixel 10 Pro XL supports the full Qi 2.2 standard with magnets and up to 25W charging. Other models (Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold) are limited to Qi 2.0.1, which supports 15W charging and is compatible with existing Qi chargers.

Q3. Why don’t all Pixel 10 models support 25W wireless charging?

Answer. Google cites heat management issues as the reason. While the Pro XL handles 25W charging with Qi 2.2, the smaller models stick to Qi 2.0.1 to maintain thermal efficiency, similar to the version used in recent iPhones.

WhatsApp Tests Voicemail-Style Voice Message Feature for Missed Calls: Report

0

Highlights

  • WhatsApp is testing a feature that lets users leave voice messages immediately after a missed call.
  • The option appears on the call screen and within the chat thread, allowing users to record and send relevant updates.
  • It is currently available to select Android beta users and aims to improve real-time communication.

WhatsApp is preparing to roll out a new voicemail-style feature that allows users to leave a voice message if their call goes unanswered. According to a report from WABetaInfo, this option is currently being tested with a limited group of beta users on the latest WhatsApp beta for Android.

The feature is designed to make conversations smoother and more convenient, especially when calls can’t be picked up in real time. Here’s everything we know about the feature as of now.

How WhatsApp’s New Voicemail Feature Works?

image

Caption – WhatsApp’s new voicemail-like feature is currently in Beta. (Image credit – WABetaInfo)

As highlighted by WABetaInfo in a detailed post, when a user makes a call and the recipient doesn’t answer, WhatsApp now shows an option on the call screen to immediately record and send a voice message.

This shortcut is also visible within the chat where the missed call occurred, providing a quick and context-aware way to follow up.

While regular voice notes can be sent at any point in a chat, this new feature is reportedly triggered only after a missed call. It serves as both a reminder that the call was unanswered and a convenient way for the caller to share important information right away.

For instance, if you’re trying to contact a teammate about an urgent update but they’re unavailable, you can leave a short voice message with the details. The recipient will then be able to listen to it as soon as they check their phone.

Once recorded, the voicemail-style message appears directly in the conversation thread, right alongside the missed call notification. This way, the recipient not only sees that they missed a call but also receives the caller’s message without needing another call or a long text explanation.

The new feature will basically ensure that important updates reach recipients without delay, while still letting them respond at their convenience.

FAQs

Q1. What is WhatsApp’s new voicemail-style feature?

Answer. It allows users to leave a voice message immediately after a missed call. This feature is designed to make follow-ups more seamless, especially when real-time conversations aren’t possible.

Q2. How does WhatsApp’s new voicemail-style feature work after a missed call?

Answer. When a call goes unanswered, WhatsApp shows an option on the call screen to record and send a voice message. This shortcut also appears in the chat thread, making it easy to share urgent updates without needing a separate message.

Q3. Who can access the new WhatsApp Voicemail feature right now?

Answer. Currently, the voicemail-style feature is being tested with a limited group of Android beta users, as reported by WABetaInfo.

Google is rapidly scaling its AI Mode in Search, taking it global after its initial rollout in India earlier this year. The company confirmed that the feature is now expanding to 180 countries and territories, bringing advanced AI-driven search capabilities to millions of users worldwide.

Along with the expansion, Google is introducing a new agentic feature designed to help users discover restaurants and make reservations directly through AI Mode.

According to Google, this is only the beginning of a broader rollout as AI Mode will soon handle more real-world tasks. These would include buying tickets, booking appointments, and other everyday activities on users’ behalf. In other words, Google Search is evolving beyond its traditional role and moving towards becoming a task-oriented digital assistant.

Google AI Mode Gets Agentic Capabilities

The highlight of this expansion is the addition of agentic features in AI Mode. Initially, the tool focuses on restaurant discovery and reservations, but Google says it will expand to support services like event ticket bookings and scheduling appointments in the near future.

Currently, users can rely on AI Mode to filter restaurants based on location, date, time, and cuisine preferences. Once the criteria are set, AI Mode scans multiple reservation platforms and websites in real time to present available booking slots.

In a blog post, Google explained that this capability leverages Project Mariner’s live web browsing technology, allowing AI Mode to interact dynamically with the web. At present, these new agentic features are accessible only to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S. through the “Agentic capabilities in AI Mode” experiment in Google Labs.

Personalised Search Results

Another major addition to AI Mode is personalised dining-related search results. Using data from Maps history, past searches, and prior AI Mode interactions, the feature can tailor suggestions for restaurants and cafés aligned with each user’s preferences.

Google also emphasised that users will retain control with the ability to adjust personalisation settings directly from their Google accounts.

New Sharing Options

To improve collaboration, Google is also rolling out a “share” button within AI Mode. This allows users to send AI responses to friends and family, making it easier to plan group outings, coordinate trips, or continue discussions with follow-up questions.

FAQs

Q1. What is Google AI Mode and where is it now available?

Answer. Google AI Mode is an advanced search feature that uses AI to perform real-world tasks like restaurant discovery and reservations. It has now expanded to 180 countries and territories, following its initial launch in India.

Q2. What new agentic capabilities does Google AI Mode offer?

Answer. AI Mode now includes agentic features that help users find restaurants and book reservations based on filters like location, date, time, and cuisine. It uses Project Mariner’s live web browsing to scan reservation platforms in real time, with future plans to support ticket purchases and appointment scheduling.

Q3. How does Google AI Mode personalise search results?

Answer. AI Mode tailors dining suggestions using data from Maps history, past searches, and previous interactions. Users can manage personalisation settings directly from their Google account, ensuring control over how recommendations are generated.
