Who are your competitors in India and what’s your take on them?

The Indian education system has seen the emergence of several edtech startups over the last few years. It’s a huge market with sufficient room for various players.

What will be significant in the coming times will be each one’s understanding of consumer behavior in the education market – what consumers need, formulating it, and being able to communicate to them that we have something valuable to offer.

Moreover, we believe education will always remain the core, while technology is a mere facilitator in disseminating the education. So quality content and pedagogy will be the key differentiator.

What’s your plan in the next couple of years? Do you also have any expansion plan to make this application accessible to other countries?

Our company’s plan has always been to offer an end-to-end education solution to its customers whether it is school, teacher, or student. We will make sure that we are providing them our high quality content and education product across various formats like books, ebooks, online, mobile apps along with all content types including text, video, multimedia, assessments etc.

What’s your comment on the poor internet connectivity that plays spoilsport in many parts of India?

Internet connectivity plays a very major role in this era of digital education and if we talk about Tier 3 and Tier 4 towns, they are the ones which are the most affected by this. Learnflix aims to deepen reach among students in these towns where it is difficult for parents and students to afford digital education due to technical glitches and high costs of apps. S.Chand intends to fill this digital divide that has been deepened by the COVID-19 crisis by offering quality at an extremely affordable price.

What are your expectations from the imminent 5G telecom network?

With 5G network coming in place, it is expected that internet connectivity and speed concern in remote areas will be improved, which certainly will boost the adoption of online education in these pockets benefitting the students with quality and standardized content.

You also offer Mylestone. What is it all about?

Mylestone, an end-to-end education solutions provider for teachers and students, was the other helping hand in this pandemic situation for students by S. Chand and Co.

Mylestone smart curriculum is conceived with a vision to bring the change in education that makes students learn better through Empowered Teaching, Easy Learning. Government Should Establish a Robust Regulatory Mechanism for Cryptocurrency Ecosystem: IAMAI

0

India’s leading Cryptocurrency players, represented by IAMAI (Internet and Mobile Association of India) welcomed the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s comments that the government will take a “calibrated” approach to crypto trading and “negotiations and discussions” are going on with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on how to regulate cryptocurrency in India.

Appreciating the positive development, IAMAI today appealed to the Government of India not to ban cryptocurrency, proposing to develop robust mechanisms to regulate the ecosystem. Cryptocurrency has been generating jobs across a variety of functions — legal, compliance, tech, marketing, business development, finance, etc. — in India and abroad. Given the scale and diversity, the good governance and regulation of the cryptocurrency ecosystem in India is critical and will give impetus to Government of India’s Digital India vision.

According to IAMAI, “The crypto community consists of over 10 Million crypto holders holding over $1 Billion worth crypto assets, 300+ startups generating tens of thousands of jobs and hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue and taxes. There’s a daily trading volume of $350 Million – $500 Million.” Therefore, IAMAI said, “The proposed move to ban will have an adverse impact and will lead to loss in investments and hit 10 million Indian crypto customers. Hence, we are urging the government to define the cryptocurrency regulation framework after due consultation with IAMAI and stakeholders such as India crypto-asset user groups and the exchanges that facilitate buying and selling.”

The Government of India has listed the Cryptocurrency and Regulation of Official Digital Currency Bill, 2021 for introduction, consideration and passing in the current session of Parliament. Under the Cryptocurrency and Regulation of Official Digital Currency Bill, 2021, reports indicate that India probably aims to launch its own digital currency i.e. Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). This measure will be in line with many central banks which have begun planning to issue their own digital currencies.

Nishith Desai, Founder, Nishith Desai Associates said, “US, Japan and other developed countries have a positive outlook towards crypto and are considering setting up of regulations for crypto”. Mr. Desai further added “India should develop balanced and positive crypto regulations that will both ensure consumer protection as well as lead to more startups building in blockchain, more jobs, wealth creation for investors, and more tax revenue for the government. All types of crypto-asset activity should be encouraged, both government and private. We’re confident that our government will take notice of this technology and its potential to contribute to our $5 Trillion economy vision.”

Members of IAMAI, while welcoming the Finance Minister’s statement, voiced their opinion and apprehensions against the proposed ban of cryptocurrency.

Naveen Surya, Chairman, Fintech Convergence Council and Chairman Emeritus of Payments Council of India (PCI) said, “Through AML/CFT and KYC related compliances, the government can ensure a safe and secure crypto market for investors. As India develops its CBDC, the regulatory framework can also define the bridge between the proposed digital INR and public blockchain cryptocurrencies from a forex standpoint”.

Sumit Gupta, CEO & Co-founder, CoinDCX said, “India is at a threshold of a fintech breakthrough. India already has 560 million online users today. In FY20 alone, India as a country registered over 21 billion digital transactions. The government sees this and understands the potential of the digital economy. Recently the FM expressed her view which reflected the government’s maturity and progressive attitude towards the crypto sector.” Mr. Gupta further added, “One must understand, the crypto industry in India is home grown, with entrepreneurs who come from premier institutes. Those who are invested in crypto are people who understand internet and do their research well. Imagine 20% of our clientele consist of women who come mostly from Tier-1 & Tier2 Cities. On the other hand, like all other fintechs we too understand the value of investor education, infrastructure security, insurance, and strict KYC controls in place, and have used this understanding as a basis to work on a self-regulatory framework as well.”

IAMAI strongly feels that India needs smart, robust and pragmatic crypto regulation, which can lead to the financial revolution and contributes to India’s growth story.

“Western Digital is focused on bringing the latest innovations to the Storage segment”

0

“We are constantly in search of better storage solutions to match the growth in our personal and professional content.”

From Big Data to Fast Data to Personal Data, most of the world is right now dependent on storage solutions. And when it comes to storage, Western Digital is one company that offers the best fits to the customer for their data storage requirement. With a global vision to create the best environment for data to thrive, the company offers best-in-class solutions.

In a recent interaction with Pahi Mehra from MyMobile, Jaganathan Chelliah, Director, Marketing for India region at Western Digital, shared his thoughts on the changing personal storage trends, how Covid-19 evolved the consumer behavior, and what kind of innovations are on the way!

According to you what is the future of NVMe Technology?

With our lives increasingly taking the digital route, our demands from our PCs are only increasing. We are constantly in search of better storage solutions to match the growth in our personal and professional content. NVMe technology helps boost the read and write speeds of our storage devices, allowing us to do more at faster speeds and at improved efficiency. Until recently, SSDs were based on SATA technology for data transfer which was primarily designed for HDDs. The transition from SATA to NVMe has been growing rapidly and you would see that more and more PCs are now coming with NVMe slots. The change has started to reflect with consumers now realizing the true potential of NVMe technology.

Western Digital has been a pioneer in integrating NVMe technology in both internal and portable SSD portfolios. The consumer experience and evolving demands have been well catered to with NVMe based solutions and we see this only growing from here.

What are the changing trends in personal storage?

The use of virtual platforms has become our new outing, while remote working has become the norm. Be it family get-togethers, office farewells, or even school annual days, people are sharing their life moments and creating memories on virtual platforms. Thus, it would be safe to say that we are currently amidst a data explosion.

PC users are upgrading their PCs for a better experience to SSDs from HDDs. Our WD Blue SN550 NVMe SSD is an internal SSD that upgrades your PC and improves performance.

Another trend that we have seen is consumer behavior towards data backup. With data being generated at an exponential rate, taking regular backups has now become a must. We have a range of products including WD My Passport Portable SSD based on NVMe technology, which is a perfect backup device with an accelerated performance of up to 1050 Mbps read speeds.

We also see a prominent shift in the gaming segment as our research shows that Indians embrace gaming as a form of social interaction and entertainment in these distressing times. The new normal has further accentuated the adoption of multiplayer gaming, increased time spent, and PCs for an evolved experience. Our ‘Next-Gen Indian PC Gamer’ survey indicates that the key bottleneck in loading and playing large titles is the storage and not the processor or the graphics card. We have a robust gaming portfolio- WD BLACK that is designed and created especially for gamers.

How has COVID-19 changed consumer behavior from the perspective of content creation and consumption?

Be it work, learning, shopping, entertainment or simply challenging a friend to a game- we have become accustomed to the virtual way of life. Several individuals have become content creators and bloggers and many have resorted to gaming as their passion.

As per reports, we interact with more than 2.5 quintillion bytes of data, including images, high definition videos, apps, etc on an average every day. In this changing environment, we are witnessing a huge surge in user-generated content that is engaging audiences across various social platforms. We also see the content formats evolving to voice and video from texts and graphics. Another noteworthy change has been the video-led interactions for work-from-home and study-from-home environments. OTT content consumption was another key highlight for most of us in the lockdown phase which drives massive content generation. These trends put together fuel the growth of data and, therefore, increase storage requirements.

How important is the gaming segment for Western Digital?

The Indian gaming sector has been growing tremendously. During the pandemic, we saw an increasing interest in PC and mobile gaming. With one of the youngest populations, India is expected to be among the top gaming markets globally.

While India is a mobile-first market even in the aspect of gaming, many individuals are switching to PC gaming to enjoy a wholesome experience.

Our ‘Next-Gen Indian PC Gamer’ survey revealed that along with having a good graphic card to support high graphic games, having enough storage space is essential for gamers for faster upload time. As per the survey, 57% of the gamers stated that slow storage leads to a poor gaming experience. The survey further revealed that two in every five gamers had to make tough choices of deleting their favorite games due to lack of storage space so that they could have a better gaming experience. These findings inflict the need for fast and high-performing storage solutions that provide you with an immersive experience.

At Western Digital, we have a keen eye on the developments of this sector. Our WD BLACK portfolio is specially designed to meet the needs of the rapidly growing gaming ecosystem. We introduced two new devices to the WD BLACK portfolio- WD BLACK SN850 and AN1500 NVMe SSD add-in card. Both devices have been designed to provide more storage and to provide that added speed to the game. Keeping in mind that modern games need faster processes and are designed with advanced graphics.

What kind of innovations are you bringing for the Indian gamers?

The recently launched WD BLACK SN850 offers mindboggling read/write speeds of up to 7000/5300MB/s. To manage the thermals, it’s specially designed with heatsink technology making sure that the game never stops, and also features customizable RGB lighting.

When gamers face a lack of storage it slows down their overall gaming experience. According to our survey, 36% of gamers face slow loading time impacting their gameplay very much, and this an issue due to low storage and not due to the processor and GPU.

To help gamers solve their issue we designed the WD Black P50 Game Drive SSD which offers read speeds of up to 2000MB/s and up to 2TB of storage ensuring that the drive is fully compatible with new gaming components released. The drive adds a competitive edge to your gaming experience. The WD BLACK P10 Game Drive for Xbox is built keeping in mind gamers looking to expand storage capacity on Xbox and never having to delete their favorite game titles. A whopping 125 games can be stored on the drive and come in capacities up to 5TB.

We also introduced WD BLACK AN1500 NVMe SSD Add-in-Card especially for gamers looking to achieve next-gen performance in a current-gen setup, this fully bootable plug and play add-in card is one of the fastest PCIe Gen3 x8 solutions on the market allowing gamers to experience blazing fast read and write speeds up to 6500 MB/s and 4100MB/s respectively.

Further, we also have an HDD designed for gamers looking to expand the potential of their console or PC by saving their game library in an on-the-go form factor. The P10 Game Drive additional boosts the speed and overall performance and comes with a storage capacity of up to 5TB.

Factors that can increase gaming performance and offer an immersive gaming experience. Various innovations Western Digital is taking to democratize the gaming space?

Western Digital is focused on bringing the latest innovations to the storage segment for both PCs and smartphone gaming. For PC gamers, we have a tie-up with Activision and are offering three new Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War-themed SSDs in early January 2021: the WD BLACK Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Special Edition SN850 NVMe SSSD, P10 Game Drive, and P50 Game Drive SSD. These limited editions are designed for Call of Duty (COD) fans, and, as an added bonus, come with a free voucher to redeem COD points.

Additionally, Western Digital has the necessary technology to provide the right experience to smartphone gamers. We have a product called SanDisk Extreme MicroSD Card, it has the feature called A2, which allows faster app loading performance and up to 1TB storage. This helps you play the game faster and ensures that you get a great mobile gaming experience. However, mobile gaming has a few limitations- the screen size and the quality of experience. The experience of mobile gaming cannot be matched to the immersive experience of PC gaming.

Apple files patent for auto diffusing flash tech for improved low light shots

0

Apple iPhones might arrive with a new flash technology in the near future. The company has recently filed for a patent for an auto diffusing flash module, which would enable improved photography during low light scenarios.

According to some media reports, the Cupertino-based giant might be working on a new flash technology that could help its iPhone’s performance in night scenes. Generally, using flash in low light scenes tends to over illuminate the subject in an image and the result can even be a flattened shot, which would also suffer from a white tint and lack of depth. So, while it is usually used sparingly, there are times when one has to use the flash.

As per the report, the patent shows that it is for a “Light source module with adjustable focus.” This implies that the flash mechanism can be altered or adjusted depending on the subject being photographed. While the patent does not mention the word LiDAR, it does mention “auto-focus information from the camera.” Furthermore, the patent also indicates that the new flash will rely on the iPhone camera to calculate distances to different objects within the frame.

The patent also stresses that this tech can be applied to cameras in various different types of devices, which includes “larger electronic device, including a mobile electronic device, which can include a mobile telephone, smartphone, notebook, etc.” It further adds that the flash would feature a “light source module [that] includes an illumination element and an adjustable light diffusing material.”

This module may be made from “a polymer-stabilized cholesteric texture (PSCT), a smectic phase liquid crystal, a polymer network liquid crystal (PNLC), or other suitable material.”

Kamlesh Sharma, founder, iGear,  said, “The iGear KeyBee is a wonderful input peripheral for everyone who loves the look of the classic typewriter keys for their keyboard. The keyboard-mouse combo gives your work desk a retro look with the classic typewriter-style round keycaps for a nostalgic touch.”

The iGear KeyBee brings back the joy of retro-fashion typing, albeit in modern style. The round keycaps that give you the feeling of the old classic typewriter are highly ergonomic for easy and comfortable typing. The keycaps are removable for easy cleaning too. Also included in the box is a soft-bristle cleaning brush which helps you easily clean between the keys so that your typing experience is never hampered by dust.

The keyboard is a compact, yet full-sized unit and equipped with a numeric keypad. It also includes two AA-size cells that last for the entire year – thanks to the auto power-saving mode that shuts it when it’s not in use.

To complement the typewriter-inspired keyboard is a smart wireless optical mouse that is ergonomically designed with a round shape to fit into your palm. The mouse includes a single AA cell that can work for a year before needing a replacement. The mouse also has a power-saving mode that puts it to sleep when it detects an idle state to save on battery life.

The iGear KeyBee keyboard and mouse combo uses a single a tiny nano 2.4GHz USB receiver and is almost invisible when plugged into a USB port. Being paired to a single USB wireless receiver also helps free up an USB port on your laptop or desktop for other important peripherals. The nano USB receiver is also completely plug-n-play – hassles for installing drivers for any operating system, which include Windows, macOS, Linux or Android.

It will be available for Rs 2,750 on Amazon and Flipkart.

In simple terms, intelligent apps are the one which uses modern technologies like artificial intelligence. These apps are intended to perform the basic operation rather than used to perform complex tasks that can be automated with continued usage, as the app learns from the operational behavior of the users.

These apps provide a personalized user experience combined with adaptability. Intelligent apps use the power of combining data organization, user predictability, prescriptive analytics, consumer data, and operational data.

With the use of artificial intelligence, intelligent apps engage with users in unimaginable ways, ways that were earlier not known and were considered just in theories. Embedding AI and analytic technologies help create the ability to act intelligently on the feedback the app receives from its environment. Aware of their performance and interactions with the user and other applications, intelligent apps autonomously learn, adapt, and discover patterns of behavior. As an intelligent app is used, it increases what it learns and uses predictive analytics to quickly adapt to the information it receives.

These smart and intelligent apps make our lives easy by learning from us, thus developers around the world are more focused on intelligent apps rather than single-operational-apps. The app market is versatile and changing very rapidly.

What are the Characteristics of Intelligent Apps!

Besides Artificial Intelligence the smart apps also use technologies including Machine learning, the Internet of Things, and big data analytics. And because of these cutting-edge technologies, the intelligent apps develop some easing characteristics or features:

Ability to learn – Intelligent apps continuously learn from user interaction and improve their performance based on the acquired historical data.

Ability to predict – Unlike traditional mobile applications, smart ones predict what information or suggestions would be the most relevant to the user and proactively reach out to users, not vice versa.

Ability to automate – Intelligent apps analyze and make decisions basing on the vast amount of data, thus completing many tasks without waiting for user commands.

Omnichannel – These apps understand what users expect and thus ensures to give the same experience on all the communication channels. With all such features, intelligent mobile apps are paving the way to do business more effectively and profitably. They are enhancing the efficiency of the workforce, accelerating the decision-making process, gathering better insights, and thus, delivering long-term benefits.
