Telecom Tariffs May Rise Again in 2025 as Subscriber Growth Surges, Says Report

  • In May 2025, India added 7.4 million active users with Jio gaining 5.5 million and Airtel 1.3 million, pushing the total base to 1.08 billion.
  • Future plans may shift to tiered pricing based on data usage, speed, time-of-day and user behaviour, aiming to protect low-end users while boosting revenue.

India’s telecom companies could raise mobile tariffs by 10–12% by the end of 2025, especially for mid- and high-spending users. According to a report from ET Telecom, this comes as mobile networks continue to see steady subscriber growth. Here’s what we know so far.

Telecom Subscriber Growth Hits New High

In May 2025, India added 7.4 million active users, marking the fifth month in a row of net gains and the biggest monthly increase in over two years. The total active user base now stands close to 1.08 billion.

Reliance Jio added 5.5 million users, boosting its market share to 53%

Airtel gained 1.3 million users, bringing its share to 36%

Analysts say this growth shows users have adjusted to the previous tariff hike in July 2024, which raised base plans by 11–23%. The recent surge is also driven by a comeback in secondary SIM usage and growing acceptance of higher prices. However, experts warn that another hike could further test user retention.

Company Might Opt for Tiered Pricing

Instead of blanket price increases, the next round of tariff changes could bring tiered pricing that offers different plans based on different parameters. These parameters could be –

  • Data usage volume
  • Network speeds
  • Time-of-day usage
  • User behaviour (especially low-data users)

This strategy aims to protect low-end users from more price shocks while increasing revenue from mid- and high-tier users who consume more data.

Indian Telecom Industry – What To Expect?

Industry watchers believe Jio’s continued growth and Vodafone Idea’s subscriber losses could push Jio and Airtel to increase their market share further and possibly hike tariffs selectively.

Brokerage firm BNP Paribas expects the telecom sector to maintain double-digit revenue growth from FY25 to FY27, driven by both price hikes and new bundled plans.

In a recent earnings call, Airtel MD Gopal Vittal said the old “one-size-fits-all” pricing model no longer works. Vittal reportedly stressed the need for more customised plans to suit different user needs.

While there’s no confirmed timeline, analysts say more pricing changes are likely to roll out in the coming months.

FAQs

Q1. Why are telecom tariffs expected to rise again in 2025?

Answer. India’s telecom companies could raise mobile tariffs by 10–12% by the end of 2025, especially for mid- and high-spending user, as mobile networks continue to see steady subscriber growth.

Q2. What is tiered pricing and how might it affect users?

Answer, Instead of blanket price increases, the next round of tariff changes could bring tiered pricing… based on data usage volume, network speeds, time-of-day usage, and user behaviour (especially low-data users).

Q3. How much did the telecom subscriber base grow in May 2025?

Answer. In May 2025, India added 7.4 million active users, marking the fifth month in a row of net gains and the biggest monthly increase in over two years.

iPhone 17 Pro Render Shows New Apple Logo Placement and Aluminium Design

0

Highlights

  • iPhone 17 Pro render leak shows that the Apple logo is now aligned with the centre of the glass portion on the back, rather than the physical centre of the phone.
  • Apple is reportedly using an all-aluminium frame and matching camera bump, giving the phone a sleek two-tone look.
  • The render was shared by Majin Bu and supported by Sonny Dickson, adding credibility to the design changes ahead of the iPhone 17 launch.

The iPhone 17 Series launch still has some time but when did that stop leakers from giving us heads-ups on what to expect from Apple’s upcoming offerings? Several leaked images of dummy units and hands-on videos have already indicated the directions Apple is going with the next iPhone series.

We already saw an early preview of the iPhone 17 Pro series this last week and now, the latest render offers a much clearer view of what to expect.

iPhone 17 Pro – New Leaked Render

Apple leaker Majin Bu has shared a new image on X (formerly Twitter) that gives a better look at the updated Apple logo placement on the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro models.

image
iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max recently leaked render. (Image – MajinBu on X)

One major change with the iPhone 17 Pro’s design is its shift toward a more two-tone look. Apple is said to be using an all-aluminium frame and matching camera bump this time around. But don’t worry, a glass section will still be there to support wireless charging, MagSafe, and wireless passthrough.

The image also confirms a key design detail that the Apple logo isn’t centred on the phone itself. Instead, it’s aligned with the centre of the glass portion on the back. So technically, it’s still “centred” and just not in the way you might expect.

Sharing the new render, Majin Bu wrote, “Do you like the new Apple logo position on iPhone 17 Pro?”

While the repositioned logo might feel a bit odd at first, it may not be such a big deal once you see it in person. In fact, another trusted leaker Sonny Dickson has backed up Majin Bu’s claim, adding more credibility to the leak.

So if this turns out to be true, the iPhone 17 Pro models will not only bring a fresh logo placement but also a striking new aluminium-based design.

FAQs

Q1. What is the major design change in the iPhone 17 Pro?

Answer. One major change with the iPhone 17 Pro’s design is its shift toward a more two-tone look. Apple is said to be using an all-aluminium frame and matching camera bump this time around.

Q2. Where is the Apple logo placed on the iPhone 17 Pro?

Q3. Will the iPhone 17 Pro still support wireless features?

Answer. A glass section will still be there to support wireless charging, MagSafe, and wireless passthrough.

Samsung’s next big Unpacked event is set for July 9 and the Korean tech giant is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, Z Flip 7 FE, and the Galaxy Watch 8 series during the event.

Now, thanks to trusted leaker Steve H.McFly, we’ve got details on when you’ll be able to pre-order and get your hands on these new devices. So, here’s what we know.

Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7 Pre-Order and Release Dates

According to the recent of tipster Steve H.McFly on X (formerly Twitter), pre-orders for Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 will open on July 9 at 3 PM, right after the launch event. The actual shipping will begin on July 25, which is earlier than a previous leak that suggested an August release.

There are also whispers that Samsung might tease its much-talked-about tri-fold phone during the event. However, it’s not expected to launch until October.

This Unpacked event is shaping up to be one of the most exciting in a while. This is especially true because the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is rumoured to be a major step up. While Samsung’s foldables have always been feature-packed, the design had started to feel a bit behind competitors. That’s likely to change this year, with leaks hinting at a thinner profile, larger screens, and a lighter build for the Fold 7.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is also expected to be thinner and come with bigger screens and a slightly larger battery. Meanwhile, the more affordable Z Flip 7 FE might offer a folder-style outer display to keep costs down.

As for the Galaxy Watch 8 series, it’s rumoured to feature a refreshed design and new AI-powered health tools.

If you’re interested, reservations are already open for both the Fold 7 and Flip 7. Samsung is offering a $50 credit for early sign-ups, which you can use on other products too and not just the new foldables. There’s no upfront cost, and you’re not locked into a purchase if you change your mind later.

While the Pixel 10 series has seen plenty of leaks, the Pixel Watch 4 has mostly stayed under the radar until now. A new leak has now revealed details about the upcoming smartwatch’s case colours and band options, giving us a clearer picture of what to expect.

According to leaker @MysteryLupin on X, the Pixel Watch 4 will be available in both Wi-Fi and LTE versions, though 5G is still not coming to wearables. It will also come in two sizes including 41mm and 45mm. Just like last year, Google is planning to offer four case colour options –

  • Black/Obsidian
  • Gold/Lemon
  • Moonstone
  • Silver/Iris
  • Silver/Porcelain

Moonstone is expected to be a shade of grey, paired with a matching band. Last year, Google offered certain case colours only with specific sizes like Matte Hazel only being available in the larger size and no Champagne Gold. We’ll likely see similar limitations again this year.

From earlier renders shared in April, it looks like the design of the Pixel Watch 4 will remain mostly the same. The absence of charging pins on the back hints at the return of wireless charging. Interestingly, there are two new cutouts next to the speaker that haven’t been explained yet.

When it comes to bands, Google seems to be refreshing the entire lineup with new colours for 2025, which includes –

  • 2-Tone Leather Band – Jade
  • Active Band – Iris, Lemongrass, Moonstone
  • Active Sport Band – Indigo, Lemongrass, Moonstone, Peony
  • Crafted Leather Band – Moonstone
  • Gradient Stretch Bands – Lemongrass/Frost, Moonstone, Obsidian/Hazel, Peony/Iris
  • Metal Mesh Band – Matte Black, Polished Silver
  • Performance Loop Band – Moonstone
  • Woven Band – Indigo

These appear to be the same band types as before, just with new colour choices. The biggest visual change seems to be the multi-colour designs in the Gradient Stretch Band lineup.
