The Reliance-Disney joint venture is set to discontinue completely free IPL streaming in India, according to recent reports. Three different sources told Reuters that the platform may shift to a hybrid model where users will need a subscription after a certain threshold.

One of the sources confirmed that the joint venture will also launch a rebranded streaming app with subscription plans starting at ₹149 as part of this change.

The decision comes after Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance and Walt Disney merged their India media businesses in an $8.5 billion deal last year. Since securing IPL streaming rights for $3 billion in 2023, JioCinema has been offering free streaming, making the tournament accessible to millions. However, under the new model, IPL and other content will remain free for a limited period after which users will be prompted to subscribe based on their viewing habits.

“Once a user develops affinity to the platform, starts watching for free, becomes loyal … the subscription will kick in then,” said one of the sources to Reuters. This means each user’s subscription trigger point may vary depending on their consumption.

The new rebranded streaming app will introduce a basic plan for ₹149 ($1.72) and an ad-free version for ₹499 ($5.75) for three months, the source further added.

The Reliance-Disney venture operates over 100 TV channels and streaming platforms in India’s $28-billion media and entertainment industry, competing with Netflix and Amazon Prime. Reliance Jio has made changes to its popular Rs 69 and Rs 139 data add-on plans. Previously, these plans lasted as long as the user’s base recharge. However, they now come with their own standalone validity of 7 days. This means users will have only one week to use the data instead of relying on their base pack’s validity.

The Rs 69 plan still offers 6GB of high-speed data, while the Rs 139 plan provides 12 GB.

Popular tipster Digital Chat Station recently shared an update on the iPhone 17 Pro Max revealing that it could feature a smaller Dynamic Island, thanks to a new metalens Face ID system that reduces its size. Here’s what we know so far.

Metalenses are ultra-thin optical lenses that use nanostructures to manipulate light more efficiently than traditional lenses. By incorporating this technology, Apple could shrink the Face ID components making the Dynamic Island smaller and allowing for more screen space.

Explaining the benefits of Metalens, American company Ansys explains, “The metalens is a flat, lightweight option that can replace bulky traditional lenses and other components in optical systems. A single thin metalens can combine the functionality of multiple optical components in a complex system — for example, replacing the mask and lens system used in a traditional dot projector. Metalenses can also be used to achieve additional functionalities like polarisation manipulation and splitting. In fact, polarization is being leveraged to combine functionalities in sources such as dot projectors and diffusers for 3D sensing in applications like AR and computational photography.”

This new Face ID tech is also expected to make its way to future iPad Pro models and Apple’s rumoured foldable iPad, which is speculated to launch next year. However, this claim contradicts a previous report from Ming-Chi Kuo, who stated that the entire iPhone 17 lineup would keep the same Dynamic Island as the iPhone 16 series.

Meanwhile, analyst Jeff Pu has maintained since the beginning of the iPhone 17 Pro Max new cycle that it will have a much reduced Dynamic Island.

The point is, since there’s no official confirmation yet, it’s best to take these rumours with caution.

New Camera Design Could Change the Look of the iPhone 17 Pro

In a separate leak, we have the look of the iPhone 17 Pro leaked in a YouTube Video. Posted by the YouTube channel Front Page Tech (FPT), Leaker Jon Prosser recently shared 3D renders suggesting that instead of the familiar square-shaped camera bump, the iPhone 17 Pro could feature a much wider “camera bar” across the back.

While the arrangement of the three main camera lenses is expected to remain the same, the LED flash, microphone and LiDAR sensor will likely be positioned on the right side of the bar. Previous leaks suggested a horizontal lens alignment, but Prosser claims the layout won’t change.

He also clarified that reports of a “two-tone” back were misunderstood and the phone will still have a single colour but the camera bar will have a darker tone to create contrast.

OnePlus has officially confirmed that it won’t be releasing a new foldable phone in 2025. This means there will be no “Open 2″ successor to the OnePlus Open, which launched in 2023 and was widely praised.

The announcement comes as Oppo prepares to launch the Find N5 on February 20, which is set to be the world’s thinnest book-style foldable. Since the original OnePlus Open was essentially a rebranded Oppo Find N3, many expected OnePlus to follow the same strategy for its next foldable. However, the company has now made it clear that no such launch is happening this year.

In a community post titled “A Note About Our Foldable Strategy for 2025 – Recalibrating for Innovation”, the Product Manager of OnePlus Open Vale G stated that the company has decided “not to release a foldable this year.”

“At OnePlus, our core strength and passion lie in setting new benchmarks and challenging the status quo across all product categories. With that in mind, we’ve carefully considered the timing and our next steps in foldable devices, and we have made the decision not to release a foldable this year,” the company wrote in the post.

“While this may come as a surprise, we believe this is the right approach for us at this time. As OPPO takes the lead in the foldable segment with the Find N5, we’re committed to developing products that will redefine multiple categories and bring you experiences that are as innovative and exciting as ever, all while aligning closely with our Never Settle mantra,” it also added.

However, it also assured fans and community members that the company is not leaving the foldable market entirely. “our decision to pause on foldable for this generation does not signify a departure from the category.
