Jio Platforms has entered into a joint venture with Luxembourg-based SES, a provider of satellite broadband services across India.
According to a joint statement, the companies will use multi-orbit space networks, which are a combination of geostationary equatorial orbit satellite constellations and a medium earth orbit constellation. These constellations each can provide multi-gigabit links and capacity across India and neighbouring regions.
In India, the joint venture will provide SES’ satellite data and connectivity services, except for customers in the aeronautical and maritime industries that may be served by SES. Jio will be able to leverage Jio’s India sales reach to unlock this market opportunity and will have access to SES’s capacity of up to 100 Gbps. The joint venture will also develop extensive gateway infrastructure in India to provide services across the country, as part of the investment plan.
