Instagram has been around for a while, but it is surprising that we still don’t have a dedicated Instagram app for iPad. However, it looks like Meta is changing that. According to a new report from The Information, Instagram is finally developing a dedicated iPad app.

The report says, “Instagram is also working on a version of the Instagram app designed for iPads, the current employee said, which could further drive usage of Instagram. Currently, iPad users can download a version of the Instagram app designed for iPhones, which appears zoomed-in on iPads—not a good experience!”

As of now, iPad users are stuck using the iPhone version of the app, which doesn’t fit well on the larger screen and looks blown up and clunky. A proper iPad version would finally make the experience smoother and more enjoyable.

The report also mentions that Meta is exploring different ways to boost Instagram’s growth, especially with all the uncertainty surrounding TikTok.

Over the years, Instagram has given several reasons for not making an iPad app. Back in 2021, Instagram head Adam Mosseri admitted that an iPad app “would be nice to do,” but explained it wasn’t a top priority because “there’s a lot to do and only so many people.”

Addressing the subject a year later, Mosseri added, “It’s still just not a big enough group of people to be a priority. Hoping to get to it at some point, but right now we’re very heads down on other things. I call these ‘finally features.’ Things like supporting dark mode, scheduled posts, an iPad app, deleting one photo from a carousel, etc.”

At the moment, there’s no clear timeline for when the iPad app will actually launch and there’s always the chance it might get dropped altogether. Still, the fact that it’s finally in the works is big news for iPad users, even if many feel it should’ve happened long ago.
