How to set up DigiLocker on WhatsApp

To help promote digital inclusion and efficient governance and build a comprehensive administrative support system for citizens to access resources and essential services, MYGov has announced that citizens will now be able to use the MyGov Helpdesk on WhatsApp to access the Digilocker service.

Through DigiLocker, citizens will be able to get access to documents such as PAN card, Driving License, CBSE Class X Passing Certificate, Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC), Insurance Policy – Two Wheeler, Class X and XII Marksheet, Insurance Policy Document (life and non-life available on digilocker).

Creating and authenticating the Digilocker account will also be possible through WhatsApp. Here’s how you can easily set up DigiLocker to work with your WhatsApp account. If you have never used DigiLocker before, read more here on how to set it up.

Step 1: Save the MyGov WhatsApp helpline number

To access DigiLocker on your WhatsApp, you need to save the helpline number “9013151515” on your smartphone. After saving the number, you will be able to access it on WhatsApp.

Step 2: Texting the MyGov helpline on WhatsApp

After saving the helpdesk number, you need to open WhatsApp to send a message to MyGov helpdesk number. After opening the WhatsApp contact list, tap on the search bar and type in the name you saved the helpdesk number. You need to send a “Hi” to this number and the automated services will appear in a few seconds.

Step 3: Setting up your DigiLocker account to work with WhatsApp

You will see a message starting with a Namaste in response to your Hi. You will see two clickable text elements towards the end of this message, one for Cowin services, and another for DigiLocker services.

Tap on DigiLocker and follow the subsequent instructions in a similar manner. First, you will be asked if you have a Digilocker account or not. Select No if you do not have DigiLocker account.

After clicking on ‘No’, you will get another message saying let me quickly set it up. You need to fill the basic details such as name, age, gender and 12 digit Aadhar number among other to complete the registration. After completing the registration process, you will get a six-digit OTP. Once you enter the OTP, you will get access to your account.

After completing the registration process you will be able to download the existing documents such as PAN card, driving licence that are saved in the Digilocker. You can also get you educational documents through Digilocker.

Document issued by the Central and respective state governments can be accessed through DigiLocker account.
