Even with all the buzz around GTA 6, Rockstar Games is still raking in huge numbers with GTA 5. In the latest financial report from publisher Take-Two, it was revealed that GTA 5 has sold another 5 million copies in the last quarter alone. That’s the same pace it’s been keeping all year and pretty incredible for a game that launched over a decade ago.
Take-Two confirmed that GTA 5 has now reached a total of 215 million units sold, up from 210 million in the previous quarter. This number includes some physical stock still held by retailers. Still, the demand clearly hasn’t slowed down.
It’s not just GTA 5 doing well. Red Dead Redemption 2 sold another 4 million copies in the last three months. The game is now officially the “best-selling title of the past 7 years in the US based on dollar sales,” despite Rockstar having more or less stopped updating it.
Meanwhile, GTA Online continues to get regular content and support. During an investor Q&A, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick called GTA 5 the “standard-bearer for our industry,” showing how strong the franchise still is even as players wait for what’s next.

The first trailer for GTA 6 has already made waves, and it even caught the attention of Mike York, a former Rockstar animator who worked on GTA 5 and RDR2. He shared a reaction video on his YouTube channel York Street Gaming, which quickly went viral thanks to his enthusiastic breakdown of the trailer’s visuals.
Clearly impressed, York asked, “Is this game really gonna look like this?” He emphasised that what viewers saw wasn’t just cinematic footage, it was actual gameplay. “These are insane,” he said, pointing out how Rockstar seems to be pushing current-gen hardware to the limit

As someone who worked directly on character animation, York highlighted the incredible detail in the trailer from realistic lighting and reflections to believable character movement. He even noted that things like shadows, trash and NPC behaviour seemed carefully crafted, suggesting that every inch of the game world is packed with intentional detail.
York was especially impressed by how background NPCs were animated showing some were fighting, others drinking or smoking and some were just existing naturally in the environment. According to him, this level of ambient animation is something Rockstar has always been known for, but GTA 6 seems to take it to another level.
Even though York no longer works at Rockstar, his reaction carries weight thanks to his hands-on experience with the company’s development process. He praised the trailer as a “testament to Rockstar’s evolution” and seemed genuinely excited about the direction the studio is taking.
