Google is set to introduce a new weather app alongside the upcoming Pixel 9, according to media reports.
This is quite surprising given that Google had just redesigned its weather section in the Google app last year.
The new app will be part of the existing Pixel Weather app, which has so far been used only for weather information in the clock app.
Initially, it will come preloaded on the Pixel 9, but it will also be available for older Pixel phones eventually.
Some media outlets have been able to test a non-final version of the app, which may change before the official release, but it gives a good idea of what to expect.
The app features a simple gradient background that changes colour based on the current weather.
The main element on the screen is the current temperature, displayed in bold with an icon showing the weather conditions instead of the degree symbol.
Below the temperature, there are cards with all the usual weather details: hourly and 10-day forecasts, humidity, sunrise and sunset times, wind speed, air quality index (AQI), visibility, UV index, and pressure.
A new feature allows users to reposition these cards (except for the hourly forecast) by holding and moving them around.
Tapping on the 10-day forecast opens a similar interface with fewer elements and fixed-position cards.
The location selection screen is simple, focusing more on the current weather and temperature than the previous design.
One notable absence in the new app is animations.
The version we tested didn’t have any animations in the cards or backgrounds, unlike the current weather app.
According to multiple media reports, Google is defying tradition this time by launching two phones.
There could be more than two Pixel phones for the ninth iteration in the series.
This could include a vanilla Pixel 9, a Pixel 9 Pro, and a Pixel 9 Pro XL.
According to a leak from the French site Dealabs, promotional offers for the Google Pixel 9 series in France have been revealed.
From August 13 to September 5, customers can purchase the 256GB models of the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL at the price of the 128GB versions.
Additionally, buyers can receive a trade-in bonus of EUR 150 for the Pixel 9 and EUR 200 (approximately Rs. 18,000) for the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL when they exchange their old devices.
The Pixel 9 series is all set to launch on August 13, 2024.
Certain online leaks have revealed that the standard Pixel 9 will feature a 6.3-inch display.
It is also expected to be available in four colours: black, light grey, porcelain, and pink.
All models in the Pixel 9 series are expected to feature Google’s latest Tensor G4 chip, ensuring consistent performance and enhanced AI capabilities.
The base Pixel 9 will come with 12GB of RAM, while the Pro models, including the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, will be equipped with 16GB of RAM.
You can also expect the Pixel 9 series to be loaded with AI features including Gemini AI and Circle to Search.
