Google is reportedly gearing up for a significant addition to its acclaimed Pixel lineup with a possible Pixel 8a launch.
This exciting revelation, likely to be part of Google I/O 2024, echoes the previous debuts of the Pixel 6a and Pixel 7a at the same event.
The information about the upcoming Pixel 8a was recently spotted on Geekbench by MySmartPrice, shedding light on what could be an intriguing smartphone.
The Geekbench listing has divulged some key specifications of the Google Pixel 8a (codenamed Akita).
According to the listing, the device will be powered by an underclocked version of the Tensor G3 chipset, complemented by a Mali-G715 GPU. Furthermore, the phone appears to pack up to 8GB of RAM and is expected to run on Android 14, right from the unboxing.
Impressively, the phone scored 1,218 and 3,175 points in the single-core and multi-core tests, respectively.
However, the situation is rife with uncertainties. Back in December 2022, Android Authority revealed that the smartphone had the codename “akita,” and there were even rumours that the device might be scrapped based on Pixel 7a sales.
Speculations were also fuelled by tipster Yogesh Brar, who hinted at the possible end of the A-series.
Adding to the intrigue, it’s important to note that the accuracy of the Geekbench listing cannot be confirmed at this stage, and there’s a possibility it could be fake.
The rumour mill surrounding the Google Pixel 8a has certainly piqued interest, though the picture is far from complete.
Whether the device sees the light of day or becomes a pivot for a new direction in Google’s smartphone strategy remains to be seen.
The Pixel 8a, as per a Geekbench listing, may feature an underclocked Tensor G3 chipset, Mali-G715 GPU, up to 8GB of RAM, and run on Android 14.
As of now, there is no official confirmation on the launch of the Google Pixel 8a. The information is based on a Geekbench listing and is accompanied by speculations and rumors.
Speculations include a possible end to the A-series, rumors about scrapping the device based on Pixel 7a sales, and the uncertainty regarding the accuracy of the Geekbench listing.
While there’s anticipation that the Pixel 8a could be revealed at Google I/O 2024, no definitive launch timeline has been disclosed.
