We often hear about the performance of a smartphone via expert reviews or get a glimpse of its build quality in teardown videos. On rare occasions, we get to hear about first-hand user experiences of smartphones, both good and bad, which tells us more about the actual quality of the device beyond what the brand claims.
Recently, the Google Pixel 8 was mentioned online in one such first-hand user review, showing just how tough the Google Pixel 8 really is.
A Polish user’s Pixel 8 accidentally spent four days submerged in a tub of hot water and came out working just fine. The story was shared by user Intrepid-Ad3513 in the Pixel Phones Reddit group.

The incident happened while the phone’s owner was staying at an Airbnb during the May Holiday. After a night of drinking, the user accidentally dropped his Pixel 8 into a hot tub and didn’t realise it at the time. Thinking it was lost for good, he searched everywhere but couldn’t find it.
Then, on the fifth day, the Airbnb host sent over a short video. While cleaning the hot tub with a net, they found the missing phone. Turns out, the Pixel 8 had been sitting in water heated to 45°C (113°F) for four full days.
Naturally, the owner assumed the phone would be completely dead. But to his surprise, after plugging it in and letting it charge, the Pixel 8 powered on and worked without any problems.
Impressed by how durable the phone was, the user shared that from now on, “he will never buy any smartphone that is not a Google Pixel model.”
